People in the comments are acting like this is cute. I’m glad they have a good relationship, but a kid expressing themselves and wanting to change there appearance shouldn’t start an argument. Especially when it’s over something as small and reversible as a piercing. That is a toxic thing to do and you cannot police your child’s appearance Edit: your parents do not own your body. That argument is BS and is used as an excuse by garbage parents to hurt there children emotionally and physically. Kids want to express themselves and enjoy these things why they are still young. When you refuse to let your kid learn for themselves and do those things, they are just going to go it anyway but hide it from you and rebel, as another commentator stated. Many people are also saying “culture” is to obey the parents, or that there “religion” is against it, but that’s really not an excuse or argument because once again, you cannot control peoples bodily autonomy and force your beliefs on them, piercings are literally a tradition in many Indian and African cultures, so those arguments do not work. If a tiny bit of metal makes you upset, than you need to grow up. This is the real world, and not everyone looks exactly like you. Grow up.

@@jimhalpert3269 I don't see connecting between appearance and success.

@@jimhalpert3269 yeah if you want to “successfully” destroy your relationship with your kid by crushing there individuality and self expression, sure. “Successful” means to tear your child’s self asteem down. Thanks for the genius advice, Jim.

i don't think it was an actual dispute, she only questioned her out of surprise about the sudden change. she perhaps wouldn't literally mind her decision and ask her to remove the piercings

This is the difference most people can't grasp between "A child naturally fears punishment" and "A child fears their parent." You're nervous of her taking it badly, or it backfiring. You're not scared of your *mother,* you're scared of her not thinking it's as funny as you do. And that's a difference more people need to learn.

I find a very subservient that you have to not be yourself, I lived like that where my mother would judge me and hurt my feelings, then I decided to live my own life and do what I wanted to do cuz it wasn't hers the to live and I didn't need her approval.

Her parents: "Don't get a piercing" Also her parents: "it's customary to pierce your nose."
@joane0235 Жыл бұрын
It’s probably that specific piercing, not a problem with piercings in general. In many cultures they consider them to look “tacky” or “edgy” so they disapprove, meanwhile the other piercings like earrings and side nose piercings are considered classy. It might also be that her mom thinks that the septum piercing doesn’t go well with her facial features and would be unflattering (in her opinion). Idk my mom is also picky about piercings so 😂
