The video is definitely fake Plastic cannot rust However, something to note Using water to clean electronics is *not* a bad idea. What is a bad idea is to *either have it plugged in while doing so, or powering on before it dries completely* / The water being distilled is not a requirement when washing a device with it, regular tap or mineral water can do the same job, read the *BOLD POINTS,* they are there for a reason [I, apparently have to add this on] Printed Circuit Boards, like the ones found in devices like PCs and Consoles are literally washed AT the factory, WITH LITERAL TAP WATER, AFTER everything that needs to be soldered IS SOLDERED TO THE BOARDS The water ITSELF isn't gonna kill your things, the minerals sometimes may, which is usually why you will hear "use IPA to wash the pcb" and why it's a good idea to use compressed air after washing with water [but again, NOT a requirement] Also, for the one who asked about the scrubbing: no, scrubbing isn't going to do much damage, if there isnt too much pressure, it's almost a requirement to remove corrosion. Even if you use something, such as vinegar, to attack the corrosion, you still have to come in and scrub it after

It is a bad idea if you are using regular water it can still get stuck in small parts and when you turn it on you fry the thing you were cleaning. But destilled water without minerals does not conduct electricity even if plugged in.

@Kevaca
@Kevaca 6 ай бұрын
@@nooneshome8746 stains and actual rust are different Actual rust is a chemical reaction, most commonly seen on metals like iron, aluminum, and others, usually from either oxygen (which is mostly why people will say, don't use water at all, even if left to dry [they are wrong if the exposal time isnt like, 12+ hours]) or other gases Stains can probably spread easily from a rusted source to one that isn't rusted

Take The statute of liberty for example, the teal color we know today is actually rust more specifically oxidization which tends to occur in copper based items so yes one point in time the statue was Copper Colored, stain on the other hand depending on the stained item and what you are using to stain it with, something like plastic isn’t super easily stainable which is why some people use plastic plates unlike something like fabric

I'm in electronics manufacturing. Every single board is washed in water and detergent after all soldering is done. Like the post said, water doesn't hurt circuit boards unless there's power to it. Theres some components that you shouldn't wash like lcd screens but vast majority if main boards in devices don't have anything that water will ruin. Those small pjezo speakers come with a sticker over the speaker hole just so water can't get inside during manufacturing.

The pcb it self are safe to be washed with water. But make sure you DRY them properly to the 100% so that when you assembly them again there won't be a electrical short out because of the water.

For example you can wash your gaming pc with water but make sure to wait 2-4 days to guarantee that the water is 100% dry. Fun fact, as long as there are no loose wires, and no water soluble materials that are vital to function and there is no power, electronics can get wet! Just make sure to let air dry and the use a mister with isopropyl alcohol to just do a double check!

you usually can wash electronics in water as long as there is no power in the capacitors/batteries, or anything that holds power, and you properly dry it before turning it on again

You can 100% wash electronics in water, so long as they are not powered on of course, it’s the mix of water and powered electronics that kills them, just like them dry 100% and they will be fine

You can wash electronic parts as long as it's not running with electricity, I usually recommend isopropyl as it Evaporates faster and usually is a better clean
