I'm a retired medical regulator. Don't just contact ADA, contact your state dental licensing authority. It's usually called a Dental Board. They have investigative authority, and will typically seek prosecution. And even if you know you have a real dentist, it's worth checking their license at your Board's website. If the dentist has ever faced licensure discipline, that is often listed.

I work in the dental field and the number of people I've seen come back from overseas with absolutely horrible dentistry done is shocking. A lady came back from Vietnam with every single tooth having root canals done on them when they were perfectly fine teething that did not need any such treatment. They were all short and poorly done. Another lady went to México for a replacement crown... The dentist there literally just placed another crown on top of her existing deteriorating crown. It resulted in a massive infection. A lady went to China and they placed crowns on ALL of her teeth for no reason except to look whiter. All the crowns were bonded together so she couldn't floss, and they were shaped so poorly food was just constantly stuck 24/7. All of these people would require thousands of dollars worth of dental work to fix these problems. It's so pathetic that people would rather get a new phone every year or spend on brand name clothing etc instead of taking care of their health properly.

I would just take precautions, make sure you don't have any cavities, get them taken care of before hand if you do and hope for the best. My first dental experience was as a child. It was a nightmare. He gave me one shot and was filling 4 teeth on top/bottom/right/left which seemed odd even to little 6 yo me. Then after the shot he immediately started drilling. I was in extreme pain and he told me to shut up, it didn't hurt. I'm 70 and passionately hate and am terrified of anyone with a white coat. My blood pressure skyrockets even at the optometrist.

It's legal for a dentist from Mexico to do the work but only if they're a certified Dentist here. When I found out, i quit. The doctor has hired them to do the work. No they definitely are misinformed. I can completely understand too. Assistants can do ortho check ups, polishing and temp crowns and molding or scanning for other procedures all on their own. These days at a high skilled dental assistant office, the actual dentist just needs to be available for support or to do actual treatments or surgeries. So i can understand why people may not understand that getting veneers is something only a dentist can do.

I recently was treated for my first cavity at the gumline between two back teeth. Not bad for being 61 years old and never needing any dental work other than my wisdom teeth needed to be removed while I was in the Air Force, and only ever experiencing cleanings every six months for about fifty-five years. I credit this incredible run to good oral hygiene, flossing daily, Crest fluoride toothpaste, and probably mostly coming from a family of Dentists, Grandfather and Brother. The pain and turmoil that I went through to get this cavity treated was thoroughly un-nerving. How someone could ever let a non-professional use destructive instruments in their mouth has me awestruck. These charlatans deserve every bit of jail, but their patients also bear some responsibility.

There is no other decision, who tf has 60k+ lying around except the uber rich? I don't even blame the people doing them or the ones getting it done, if there is no possible way to afford it i'm glad there are some other options. They were victims before they went to get that done, everyone who desperately needs dental care but isn't a millionaire is. Insurance doesn't cover anything. People don't realize till they get older, but they're one illness away from losing everything in the usa, it's a third world country. First world countries have accessible dental/healthcare. You shouldn't see donation jars at gas stations so kids with cancer can live meanwhile people like jack doherty have 10 cars. We live in a dystopia. If the "dental tech" had good results and more or less knew what he was doing i'd do it, there is no other option.
