Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s final episode finally sees Sam embracing the mantle of Captain America...and he’s pretty great at it. He uses the shield’s platform to advocate for a better future. But, he can also use it to stop the Flag Smashers and Batroc the Leaper.
The episode is filled with Easter eggs and references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and clues about where we go from here. Isaiah Bradley’s grandson Elijah will become the Patriot, leader of the Young Avengers. Zemo--still locked in the raft--could be released to lead the Thunderbolts. John Walker becomes US Agent, and Sharon Carter is (or isn’t) the Power Broker.

I didn’t like the hamfisted forced woke black stuff, but I like how Sam isn’t portrayed as trying to be a black hero. He wants to be seen for the content of his character - to be just a hero. That’s the kind of world I grew up in, in the 2000s, before everything changed in Obama’s second term. I grew up as Latino and white, but not caring for either. To me, I was an American. The kids at my school were fellow Americans. No skin color felt out of place. MLK’s dream was almost realized, then BLM changed it all in 2013. My generation was going to be one with so little racism, it’d be seen as history, not modernity. Then BLM said, “No.”

My favorite reference would be that this episode is like the mirror to the first episode. First episode's mission was a covert seek and destroy mission in broad daylight where Sam refuses to be cap. This episode's misison was in public search and rescue mission at night where Sam embraces the shield.

On Sam’s struggle with people seeing his race first.... Heres the 3 phases I personally went through with Cosplay at conventions. Phase 1. I cosplay a character I like and relate to on some level to go enjoy the con and have fun. And people refer to me as “Black (whoever I’m dressed as)” and say things like “Why not dress as Jet Black instead of Spike Speigel. You’d make a great jet!” (I don’t relate to Jet as much as I relate to spike). After a while I got so annoyed I started to 2. Dress as characters like Spider-Man who don’t have an inch of their skin showing. My race is unknown, my Midwestern home schooled proper English makes it difficult to figure out what color is my skin (most assume I’m white from my voice). I now have people refer to me as Spider-Man, Samus, Ironman, or whatever character I’m dressed as without attaching the word “Black” in front of it... but then I was like... 3. A lot like 1 where I dress as whoever the fuck I want. And I run into things like at one con someone was like “Hey take a photo with me. We’re Black Kira and Kira! Lol” and I respond “You mean Black Kira and White Kira right?” And they look shocked and a bit annoyed and say “I’m just Kira. You’re black Kira.” When I say “Light Yagame was born and raised in the Kanto Region of Japan. He’s JAPANESE. You aren’t . You’re white Kira. I’m sorry, is it a bit uncomfortable that I brought up your race for you cosplay and said some casually racist shit? My bad, maybe I’ll think before I open my mouth and say some fucked up bullshit like that next time. By the way, what’s your name? Can you write it in my book?” Now a days I just dress as whoever the fuck I want for a con and when people say some nonsense like “why not dress as (insert black character who I may or may not actually like as a character for the show)” or they refer to me as “Black (insert whoever I’m dressed as)” I immediately make that conversation as unfuckingcomfertable as I possibly can by calling them out on how weird and fucked up it is they’re seeing my race first and not viewing me as a human fucking being.

If you've ever spent time around older veterans, they tend to know things, people, decisions, etc. before they happen. That is depicted in a rather consistent way with Bucky by his always catching things mid-air. His brain is always working overtime and observing everything everyone else is not. His own deaths weren't just failures, they were moments for him to alter his course in the future when given another chance. THAT opportunity to "un-die" is pretty powerful when it comes to personal outlook. Talk to an old veteran and they will tell you some story where they 'should have died,' BUT... some intervention. If Bucky's brain is THAT active and THAT observant, then his baggage is that much heavier. The fact Bucky jumped on Sam's side to try and talk Karli down rather than side with the more relatable option Zemo proposed is a telling leap in his emotional evolution. This show is swimming in nuances and it's wonderful.

Falcon and WS was just great genre storytelling. It didn’t try to shoot for the moon like WandaVision (not a knock) or top the spectacle of the Mando S2 finale. It was just a good show. I liked it all around! Great acting, outstanding action sequences, and lots of Marvel deep cut characters making their presence known in the MCU.

I don’t think Buckys quite there yet. He’s accepted that he’s not the Winter Soldier but he has yet to accept himself as White Wolf. I think by the end of season 2 he will be there and it will then be called Captain America and the White Wolf

It's a reformation story, first Sam reformed and then became the new Captain America, while Bucky's reformation is not quite complete yet. I think he will become the White Wolf in the second season of the show.

I don’t think Sharon is the powerbroker. I think she might be a part of a pair of power brokers. She could be the face of the powerbroker, like how Karli recognized her, but only half of the power. I think the other person is the one Zemo knew and the person she called at the end. Also, Happy Brithday Ryan!

It'd be pretty silly if she were. I don't think we've seen anything to suggest Sharon has the kind of resources/ability it'd take to depose the previous crime boss/whoever that ran Madripoor and forge a new criminal empire from the ashes. Similarly, if you want the Power Broker to be a significant presence, having them running around punching/being punched like your average punchman isn't the way you'd do it. I think we'll probably hear more of the Power Broker in the future, so I think they'd want someone more compelling than Sharon Carter.

An interesting thing I realized was when Sam came in to catch the truck and used 2 "red wings" to help lift it. It reminded me of the scene in Spiderman Homecoming when Iron Man used a bunch of arc reactors to put the boat/ferry back together. There was an interview where Anthony Mackie tells Tom Holland he hadn't seen Homecoming. So I might be reaching, but maybe between that interview and now, he saw the movie and used a strategy he learned from finally watching Spiderman Homecoming.

It is shown that 3 Flagsmashers (without the Pilot) enter the prison transporter, but on the radio that Zemo listens to it is reported that 4 Flagsmashers were killed. Maybe its just a mistake and they didnt film the Pilot entering the transport or had the wrong line on the radio.

I LOVED that in the subtitles, they refer to Sam as "Captain America" throughout the episode. Not "Sam" not "Falcon." A subtle but meaningful commitment to the change in the character and the MCU overall.
