I have to disagree about the hype not being there. Falcon and Winter Soldier has been the show I've been the most hyped for, then Loki, and WandaVision was the one I was the least excited for (although I did enjoy it and knew that I would). Winter Soldier has been one of my favorite Marvel characters since his introduction and Falcon has been pretty high on my list for just as long. Their onscreen chemistry has always been fantastic, too ever since first seeing them team up in Civil War. I am beyond excited for more of this show.

I agree I think the hype for this show is equal to what WandaVision had in first couple episodes. WandaVision's hype increased exponentially when the show picked up a lot in episodes 4&5. I think the same will happen with this show

The hype was real for this show. With wandavision and loki, people aren't sure what they were getting. The trailers for both shows left people asking WTF is happening? With this one, we know the type of show we are getting and hoped that it would have CA winter soldier vibes.

@willgenre
@willgenre 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe I'm a little bias but exploring what it's like to reintegrate back into society after being a soldier is a very complex and interesting issue. First Bucky clearly PTSD, and the parallel of being brainwashed with being bombarded with National propaganda to serve a country (deep, deep stuff there). Also, Sam's sister, here you have a strong woman who made things happen while Sam was gone and upon his return, he's trying to tell her what to do (it's a real thing asks any significant other when their partner comes back from a deployment). She's a hero in her own right. This one thing I have always loved about Marvel. They consistently adhere to the idea that PEOPLE are heroes too. lol.. okay, I digress. okay, one more thing. That politician or whoever SHOOK Sam's hand and said 'you're doing the right thing" then went behind his back and gave the shield and mantle to a white guy. think about that for a second.
@Caseytify
@Caseytify 3 жыл бұрын
What's wrong with serving your country? Note that he owns half interest in the house and the boat. He may be rude about it, but he has a vote. I think the politicians were remarkably tone deaf on that choice for many reasons, and didn't understand what was special about Steve Rogers. Sam was as good a choice as any, but he turned the role down. Anthony Mackie has said he sees your observation as part of the story. This should be interesting.
@flatebo1
@flatebo1 3 жыл бұрын
It's not that they gave the shield to a white guy. It's that they gave it to someone who (I preseume) never knew Steve. Captain America has in the comics been fairly consistently shown to be a US government position. There have been a couple times Steve gave up being Cap because he couldn't support the current administration and what it waned him to do. In the 70s, Steve became Nomad. In the 80s/90s he became The Captain. Both times the US government gave the uniform and shield to someone else, in both cases a serving US soldier. And both turned out to be very bad choices. So I'm guessing that's what they might be doing here.

I don't understand why people say it was a "slow episode" or that "it will pick-up". Marvel is doing long form story telling with these mini-series. They're not meant to be action packed and fast paced as the movies, the mini-series are about character development.

Just like Wandavision in that regard of character development. But i don't understand the "slow pace" this episode started with a great action sequence! The another with Bucky! Then we got establish about what the series will be about. If you have watch Winter Soldier and CIvil War, this feel right, great character development with some awesome actions sequences in the middle and now that will be more because of the 6 episodes format.

Honestly, from what I saw, this was the show people were most anticipating. Lots of people love Falcon and Winter Soldier, especially their chemistry with each other. Not that people didn't also love Wanda and Vision, but that show as a concept got largely written off as the less exciting or interesting installment by most people I follow. Obviously, WandaVision was fantastic, but people were less certain that it would be fantastic than they were about this before actually seeing it.

But it will probably be similar slow burn until it shifts into break the internet stuff . Love it that were getting to fill in the blanks as far as who these guys are. Actually she's a fantastic therapist. You have to communicate with your client on a level they most appreciate. Sometimes that means telling them some shit they don't want to hear. You have to be a mirror for your client. You can't force them to have an epiphany and change their whole life. You have to lead the horse to water, and encourage them to drink. Sometimes you have to wrangle them to show them there is actually water. Ultimately, it's up to them if they want to drink. I think Bucky does want to drink. I think there is a part of him, the guilt ridden part, that wants to be treated a little roughly as a form of atonement, and you notice when she is entirely open and honest with him without pretense, that's when he really hears her and opens up. Therapy is a marathon, not a race, but each step can take you closer or further away from the finish line. Bucky has taken huge positive steps, even in this episode. He actually showed up for the date. He made progress confronting his past, which is an important step on the journey to forgiveness and acceptance. He is going out of his way to reach out and connect with other people, which he probably would have avoided if she hadn't made him aware that avoidance isn't healthy. These are positive, helpful things that came out of her behavior, and that's the difference between a good therapist and a bad one. All the flowery words and positive interactions in the world don't mean diddly if they don't get positive results, and her method got positive results. They might behave a little combatively with each other, but there is mutual respect and care there. Not everybody gets that. I've been in and out of therapy since I was in third grade. I know first hand how destructive therapy without those things really can be. So ya, I appreciate that these scenes are so real. I appreciate that they show that therapy isn't just some place you go to lie down and whine. It's a place to get help, and sometimes that it doesn't come easy. She's great and he's lucky she took his case.

Hey, Mary! Here's my take on Episode 1: Chronologically set after "WandaVision" and before "Far From Home". The phenomenal opening sequence with paragliders was reminiscent of those pre-title action set pieces in Bond movies! Georges St.-Pierre, UFC welterweight champ, reprised his role as traditional Cap villain BATROC THE LEAPER; we last saw him as the Algerian pirate leader in "Winter Soldier". JOAQUIN TORRES, the future Falcon from the comics, is introduced! Very good first episode that sets a realistic tone for the series. The Blip turmoil is reminiscent of 'rona turmoil. SAM declines Cap's burden and bequeaths the shield to the Smithsonian. Nice RHODEY cameo. Interesting peek into Sam's personal family life in the deep South. In the comics, he's from Harlem. Being an Avenger won't buy you a cup of coffee, much less guarantee you a bank loan! Vicious Winter Soldier nightmares has BUCKY in government-mandated therapy as part of his pardon deal. His public 12-step program has him making amends by legally and non-violently taking down scoundrels he propped up. His private method of expiation is to cozy up to his victims' next of kin and flagellate himself with guilt. Sheesh! FLAGSMASHER is transformed from an individual villain as in the comics into an anarchist organization whose ideology glorifies the borderless state of the world during The Blip. They use social media to gather flash mobs who wear masks with red handprints to serve as diversions for precision stings that are accomplished by ENHANCED OPERATIVES! Someone with resources and an agenda is using the social movement as a front. My guess is ZEMO. JOHN WALKER, the future USAGENT of West Coast Avengers and Force Works, played by Wyatt Russell, is introduced as the new Cap! If you'd like to learn more about Sam and Bucky's comic history either before the series is finished or after it's over, I strongly encourage you to check out KZbinr James Hancock's primer on his channel "Geekin' with James Hancock". I actually loved the episode a lot. I thought it was better than I expected. But it's funny that whatever Sam said in Tunisia was not Arabic. I speak the language and I tried so hard to understand it but it was either Gibberish or he didn't pronounce the words correctly.

She’s a good shrink. They’ve been at it long enough to have a rapport and she understands when she needs to be direct and call him on his bullshit vs using other tactics to lure him out (taking hand written notes). Patients who are actively resistant to the therapeutic process can need a firm approach in order to make progress.

This show has only 6 episodes as opposed to WandaVision's 9 so I expect the pace to pick up a lot quicker than WV. I've seen other reactors say that this episode is kind of slow after the banger opening, and you either love or hate it. Personally I loved it, this episode managed to cram more character development into 40 minutes than the entirety of Falcon & Winter Soldier's apearances in the MCU put together so far. The hooks, or set-ups for future episodes with the Flag Smashers and new Captain America were plentifull enough to put it on my Must Watch List. Still, F&WS were as second tier as Wanda&Vision and that show nailed it, so I expect Marvel Studios to knock this one out of the park as well. But WandaVision was so unique and different in tone that no matter which Avenger character was featured in the follow-up, these two guys or Loki, arguably the most popular character of those announced Disney+ shows, they'd have big shoes to fill. Personally I am most looking forward to Hawkeye, the least talked about Avenger (and he was one of the OG 6!!) It's borderline criminal that Ant-Man (F**king ANT-MAN!) has 2 movies out with a 3rd underway, yet Hawkeye gets stuck with a mere "TV show". Although I loved the Ant-Man movies, they deserve more love... Also, is the nose ornament new? I didn't notice it in the Alien vid you posted. It's a good look on you, even if that's just my personal taste. I'm sure many people will dislike it, but I can always appreciate a well-placed body-piercing. Personal preference, I like them better than tattoos on a woman, but that's just me.

Im not saying I disliked WandaVision but this show kinda deals with loss and moving on way more differently. Of course it has to be different because we're following Sam (who was snapped away and is now back 5 years later in a new world with new rules about everything.) and Bucky too because he snapped and came back too. Bucky however, not only has to adjust to the future, but also still is troubled by everything he did before. I honestly loved Bucky's story arc here than the first half of WandaVision. Bucky and Sam, like Wanda, lost their team essentially. Captain America grew old and "retired," Iron Man is no longer with us, Black Widow gave her life for the stones, Bruce is off somewhere as Hulk-Banner, and Thor has left with the Guardians. Who knows if Nick Fury is around to help out or coming in to do something about SWORD. So naturally, they're trying to do their own things. I just felt more emotions for Bucky. Bucky: Hanging out with an old man because he wants to try and tell him he killed his son as the Winter Soldier. To me, that honestly sounds more interesting than Wanda dealing with her turmoil and internal struggles. Then again, I'm with the crowd of fans that love Bucky. So I was looking forward to this show and the upcoming Loki series than WandaVision.

The story of Capt America and who takes over as the new CA is a long and complicated story from the history of Marvel comics. Capt America has so many storylines that have reset and changed over time. I have noticed with the younger viewers they have call the beginning of this episode and the beginning of WandaVision as slow or boring. I think we are going to get that with the Disney + series because there needs to be so much exposition that you do not get from the MCU in general because we are an action to action viewership in the movies. Marvel Studios is setting up much of the backstory and conflict in Disney + that tries to keep faith in where the comics had decades to develop. John Walker, US Agent, the new government approved Captain America really falls in how Marvel was changing in the 70s to 80s. The company was really exploring social issues that DC comics were trying to avoid. The old steady heroes in Marvel avoided most of the social conflicts until it became time to refresh Capt America and Iron Man. Many people who watch this outside of the US will miss the conflict areas of race, gender and government that it looks like Marvel Studios is updating with its storylines of these popular characters. The Bucky you see in the MCU is far different from the Bucky we get in the comics. I think this Bucky is better because for a 106 year old man he is more realistic and the fact they are visiting mental health and how we treat veterans with him and Sam is interesting. A paper or two could be written on how Capt America's story mirrors social struggles in America. I would expect more story exposition and we should end of with Bucky and Sam helping each other come to terms about who they are and what they represent.

I enjoyed the episode but Sam's face when they introduced the "New" Captain America after he gave up the shield with that speech, exactly how I would've felt! Not even Sam thought he was worthy of the shield and the title and he's a freakin' Avenger, then they give to this nobody! Don't think he'll be around for long though. BTW, am I imagining things or is the nose ring new?

They’re going to have to try WAY harder to paint the “anarchist” (as an actual anarchist, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes 🙄) Flag Smashers as villains, as they came off way cooler and more likable than fan-boy Torres lmao. Overall I liked it -especially Bucky making amends- but the “anarchist” storyline is going to be trying, I can tell 😂 As always, great reaction! Looking forward to the next one :)

Awesome episode. Uncle Sam, lol. Bucky's therapy was scene was great. The visuals in this episode were glorious. Rhodey!! What Up? The guy chosen as the next Captain America is John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell. His storyline could play out differently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but in Marvel Comics, Walker became Captain America under very similar circumstances. At one point in the late 1980s, Steve Rogers decided to quit being Cap rather than work directly for the U.S. government. The government then selected John Walker, who’d previously appeared as the more aggressive hero Super-Patriot, to become the new Cap in his place. This more violent Captain America eventually had a mental breakdown after his costumed adventures resulted in his parents' death. Before too long, the government passed the Captain America title back to Steve Rogers. Walker eventually recovered to an extent and then became a longtime member of the Avengers’ west coast team under the identity U.S. Agent. (ScreenCrush, 2021).New World Order(NWO) 4 Life.

Great singing voice! Jump just like Steve or Tony. There was really a man Louie was not pranking him. Imagine those wings how you could fly anywhere and you have protection. There is no actually confirmation that Steve Rodgers is dead. Bucky having past hydra memories haunting him. Not hurting anybody should be number 1. Bucky ignoring texts to the closest person he has to Steve right now. She has no idea who he is. When Leah asks Bucky how old he is an he say 106 she laughs thinking he is joking and not knowing he was the Winter Soldier and has a metal arm that he is hiding. Yes that was Yori’s son who he killed while under Hydra. Cajun food is very good. Look forward to more of Joaquin Torres. Falcon seems like the most forgotten Avenger. New Captain America John Walker. Not sold on him and that wink is just weird. Has more of an ego than Steve Rodgers. I thought the episode was pretty good.

Sam was given the shield for the same reason Steve was picked to be Captain America. Steve wasn’t the strongest, biggest, or fastest but he had good core values and despite his physical state still wanted to join the fight. That’s why Sam was picked as the new Cap. And Sam was actually more badass than Steve when he was picked.

I'm glad they moved slow with this episode; it's important that we get to know these characters more before jumping into the thick of the story. I like Sam's fight with Batroc for two reasons: 1) Continuity. Hey, Georges St Pierre! 2) Having Sam have to fight and beat someone who gave Cap a challenge really helps his character evolve and step out of Cap's "sidekick" role, becoming the leading man he needs to be. (...to carry the shield, I'm predicting... heh heh) Good job, Mary! 😀👍

You nailed it! I couldn’t place who the new cap looked like Cosplay Joffrey Baratheon to a T! That is EXACTLY who I couldn’t place! Lol Also Falcon would have almost zero income since he was on the run with Capt due to the events of Civil War so he would have had zero Tony Avengers money... I thought a better line would have been: Banker: “You have no income for several years.” Sister: “How can you have an income if you don’t exist.” Banker: “No I mean before the blip.” It would have showed that not only had he been away from the family business for the 5 years of the blip but also completely gone since the events of Civil War and his family wouldn’t have known he was essentially considered a War Criminal on the run with Cap.

This "new Captian America" comes from a storyline in the 80s that introduced new characters in the Captain America comics. Mainly, this one. I'm trying to avoid any kind of spoiler for you, but in the comics he replaced Steve Rogers for a time as Captain America when Steve came into conflict with the U.S. Government & they stripped him of his mantle. Remember the conversation Tony had with Steve in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Tony said he doesn't trust anyone who doesn't have a dark side? This guy is the embodiment of that dark side. Here he's played by Wyatt Russell, who is the son of Kirk Russell.

If you think about it, Disney+ is the "small screen" but with a "big screen budget." It's not meant to showcase the big hitters, it was created to give origin stories and personality to the secondary and tertiary characters of the MCU. The big screen would get Doctor Strange. The Disney+ screen will get Hawkeye. It will introduce unknowns like Monica Rambeau and She-Hulk...and it gives continuity to tertiary character like Dr. Darcy Lewis and Agent Jimmy Woo. When you get the complete storyline of big hitters, secondary and tertiary characters like what Disney and Marvel is doing, you have the most complete package of the whole Marvel Universe...and you get full investment by fans like you and me. Also it brings new fans into the MCU because they can get a complete story and it gives immense fan service to the die hard comic book OG's. No other fictional universe, not Harry Potter, not Star Wars, not Star Trek can even touch this amazing and super successful strategy. It's all relatable because it's real time our real world. So we can imagine...Skrulls on a space station, Wanda controlling a town, and Bucky seeing a shrink. Right here. Right now.

She's a great doctor. She's not sugar coating his situation. And she wasn't lashing out, she was pointing out issues he needed to address. Bucky is deflecting by asking provocative questions. He has PTSD and he needs help. Note how he still sleeps on the floor. The idiot loan officer reminded me of the scene in Ant Man when the manager praised Scott for his Robin Hood crime, then fired him. I was looking forward to this because I enjoyed the relationship they demonstrated in Civil War. Watching the trailers I got a Midnight Run/Lethal Weapon/48 Hours kind of vibe, which apparently is what the producers were aiming for.
