Technically yes. But if this my case it was empty because that’s where it was leaking from.

you would need to drain the antifreeze first from the rad and thus heater core would be drained. correct ?

No need to drain totally the radiator. Because even if you do that you will still have some left on the heater core. So just best to undo the heater core lines and try to drain as much as you can from the heater core.

I did a vacuum test and also a leak test with a machine that “smells” the particles of Freon in the air. Also if you are familiar with the smell of Freon you could smell it inside the cabin

I don’t understand? Lol I mean I don’t think my a c works either or it is low it don’t work either I did put a medium size can of Freon in it once. But I can move the lever and can hear the flap moving like it should but it just won’t blow hot what does the distributor do I was told could be that as well

@@brittanybean9081 every car is different how much Freon each car has. And it also depends on how much Freon is in the car. You should never just add Freon. To do it properly it needs to be vacuumed and then filled with the proper amount of Freon for your specific car. As far as the “distribuidor” I think you might be remembering wrong because that has to do with the fuel system not the ac system.

Abe Morales they are different parts but the procedure is the same. Both the heater core and the evaporator are in the same “air box”. Like on the video the black box I removed and then took apart to remove the evaporator ... well the heater core is inside the same box. So same procedures.

What did you see as far as the temp door? I have a customer that has a 2009 with single temp zone and it doesn't put out hot air on the rh side just on the driver side. I did a test on all actuators and they passed I feel it has something wrong with the door but I haven't had one of these apart yet

could be broken from the inside, but I've also seen that when its low on Freon it will often blow hot on one side and cold on another even on single temp systems.

I dont think there is any vacuum control actuators on this vehicle, what you might be hearing is the AC as is flowing threw the expansion valve

Question. 2012 dodge avenger,single climate control. All actuators are working,flushed cooling system (needed it anyways) no heat on the passenger side. I've started looking for the problem,hot/cold blend door works. Vent,floor,def actuator works fine. Does it sound like a door is stuck? Some have told me to pull the dash to correct the problem. Looking like that might be the only solution. Your professional opinion is definitely being sought after. I thank you in advance!!! Change your heater core. Also your cabin filter. There's videos on how to do it without ripping the dash apart. Just don't do what I did, and break the blend door arm off so you end up have to rip the dash apart anyway, to put a $400 housing in.

When replacing the heater core did you replace or flush the radiator ? It kind concerns me from what I’ve read about the residual sand coming from the casting of the block I’m guessing . If it goes through the heater core it has to go through the radiator as well and with it passing through the radiator would there be a very good chance this can or could happen again

never had any issues with " residual sand" .. from my experience if I see it its because the owner or previous owner used some sort of coolant leak sealant or "leak stop" or something like that

Hey man I have the same vehicle and I'm having a problem with the heater. It only blows heat air on the driver's side, cold air on the passenger and the back just a little bit hot! I took it to the dealership they told me I have to change the heater core and that I have” 3” heater core! I don't believe them and it will cost me almost 3k for everything. But if it is working on one side and there's not leak or weird smell? Could I flush the system before removing everything? Or do you think I have a different problem?

hi brother currently having issues with my 2009 dodge journey sxt. my check engine is on notice it cames on when my ac was blowing hot air. hooked it to the obd and its telling me something like fan. i charge the ac but don't last a long time maybe couple of days. when its going on empty i get a hissing sound coming thru the vents. how do i know i don't have to do what you did on this video?

to know for sure you will need a special machine that "sniffs" the AC system and can detect Freon in the air. you can also see if there is "greenish" water coming out of the AC drain house coming from the AC box, it would also help if you had a Freon leak detection glasses. as far as the Check engine light coming on ..... seems odd its very few systems that can detect AC issues with the check engine light, only systems I've seen do that is Mercedes and BMW

taking the steering wheel out of the way is very simple just 4 bolts on the bottom holding it to the frame and one to the shaft, but where exactly are you trying to get?

Falcon's Garage thanks for the speedy reply... I have a speedometer that is not working properly/at all I replaced the input and output speed sensors and that didn't solve the problem... So I am trying to figure out if there is a receiver that I can change behind the instrument cluster that gives the signal from the speed sensors to the speedometer. Or if there is a faulty connection somewhere.

if I remember correctly you have the sensors feeding into the computer .. then the computer sends the into to the cluster .. you might have a bad cluster there is no receiver or something like that .... get a wiring diagram for the speed sensors and start there

Falcon's Garage thanks again bro so there is a clicking noise and the needle jumps up but never to the accurate speed (doing probably 80 on the freeway it says I'm doing 35 lol)... so if I just swapped out the whole cluster it could also solve the issue as it is probably a fault/broken part in the mechanism that turns the needle as opposed to the signal not getting through to tell it so...

yeah could be a bad cluster.... Its not a common issue on this car like it is on the chevy, but I think you are on the right track

sergio perez when it's bad you usually hear a "tap-tap" coming from them or they won't move at all. As as far as to how many they have it depends on your AC system. usually they have a 1-2 blend door actualtors, 1 mode door actuator and 1 recycling actuator. Hope that helps

Digitus Impudicus with out releasing it into the air not really. You need a recycle machine. Other ways you can let it out alittle at a time just like letting air out of a tire.

So, I'm going to have to get my hands on a set of a/c manifold gauges and a vaccum pump ... because the correct way to recharge the system is to evacuate the high and low side at the same time ... right? Since I'm only removing air and adding refrigerant, I'm guessing there's no need to add oil; is that correct? I was thinking of trying Blue Devil head gasket sealer, but I will have to remove both thermostats which is another ordeal ... or would you reccomend trying that? I've never had a car with a secondary thermostat before. I really appreciate your input.

Digitus Impudicus as far as the vacuum process you are correct. It could even be done on one of the lines it doesn't "have" to be in both because the system is connected, as far as the oil you should loose any because your not really replacing the evaporator your putting on the same back on,as far as using the blue devil thing I would only recommend it as a last resort. Because the same chemical it has to stop leaks "could" also Clough other places like heater cores or radiators .... it's rare but I have seen it happen. If your looking for a quick way to get around it until you fix it "for real" you can always bypass the heater core that way it won't leak for the time been. You will just loose the "heat" from the ac until you fix it. I hope that made sense. Haha

Gavin Hou yes you do have to remove dash. I guess you could leave the steering wheel hanging on the floor but from my experience is best to take it all off.

Mine is pumping coolant out somewhere as it's going through about 1 gallon a week but is not burning it. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. Also, great video! very informative!

1987 mercury if it has rear AC then yes it has a rear evaporator and heater core. Most of the times it’s on the passenger side on the rear of the car. But you can always get under between the rear bumper and rear wheels and find the 2 heather hoses and the 2 ac hoses and follow them from there.

just to clarify the issue I'm having with my A/C is that I hear a loud hissing sound under the dash when I come to a full stop and my the air doesn't blow as cold. When I'm driving in the highway the A'C blows cold air. Is the hissing sound means I have a leak somewhere?

not necessarily .. the hissing is normal in all vehicles .. you just cant hear it most times... I would say you have a fan air flow issue on the engine bay
