You really helped me and my gramps out. I've only driven a motorcycle in my life instead of a car and my gramps is really lost at models post-2000. With the help of your video we were able to figure everything out and being able to get the water pump and the power steering pump set, and our '08 Lucerne is running again. Helped save us a lot of money and stress being able to fix things ourselves with your help. Thank you so much, man.

I just had the water pump change and I'll tell you it was definitely a job. Everything went easy but the four 13 mm bolts on the water pump. All four 13 mm long bolts go into the timing chain cover into the block. 2 of them were really stuck in there and trying to get them out where a bitch. I should have took a picture of them. They bring some of the gasket material out from the timing cover from what I could see. It was very hard to pull them out. I thought they were going to strip. And then the timing cover on the left side started leaking a little bit after the complete install of the water pump. Then after several attempts of tightening the 13 mm bolts more it looks like it finally stopped. I would highly recommend that doing this water pump install you might have to replace the timing cover gasket as well especially if it's an older Lucerne with many miles. The other four little 10 mm bolts only go into the water pump. So far so good no leaks, 🤞 I think what happens is the Dex Cool antifreeze eats all the gaskets especially the upper intake lower intake and the timing cover gaskets. If you have a 100,000 miles or more on your car you going to have to replace some eventually

That's a great video. Very down to the point for everything to do this job. One quick question. I know you didn't use a torque bar on the bolts on the water pump. But if you had to use a torque bar what are the four large bolts in the torque specs,? and the four small bolts on the water pump in torque specs? But if you did it at torque specs could you just tell me what they would be? Thanks so much for your help

Thank you! Love my 06 V8 Lucerne. Quick question, do you think it would be better to have the plastic cover off the top of the engine? Seems a little overboard. I figure you don't want heat trapped in that area under the hood.

If there's dowl pins, wouldn't there be no need to place silicone? I get it, you do it to help you keep the gasket in place but that's what the pins are for? To keep the gasket and pump in place as you tighten everything back up.

@Peace22_2 жыл бұрын
For anyone wondering and reading this comment also hoping for this, I had trouble getting the bottom bolt to find the threads since I could not see where it need to be. My suggestion is make sure to thread in the top bolt with the pump on because that one you can see from the engine bay. Make sure the top bolt is only threaded in enough to hold the pump up so you have room to play. Lift the car at that passenger front wheel and remove the wheel. From there you should be able to maneuver yourself in a fashion that you can take however long you need and figure out how the pump moves and needs to adjust to get the bolt in the right position. For me I observed the movement and concluded from above the engine bay I would take my left arm with dry fingers and hold the bolt with two of them while also pushing down the pump flat and pulling slightly up, then using my fingers to spin the bolt just a little so it would lock in the threads. This was tricky so to save yourself the stress, just take more things apart like control arms or strut tower to get to the bolt and hold the pump at the same time from the bottom. As long as you can put it back together you'll save more time than losing years of your life from the stress 😭. Good luck y'all.

So you don't have to put any silicone on the bolts to keep them from leaking, correct?
