Fall Capsule Wardrobe Starter Pack: Aesthetics, Colors, Patterns, and More!

My inspiration for this year is actually Vincent Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” painting, and his “Almond Blossom” painting. The Sunflower 🌻 one is full of rich yellows, golds, oranges, and creams, perfect for Fall. And his Almond Blossom painting is rich teals and turquoise. I think his Sunflower has Rust in it too, and so my color palette is: Rust Army/olive green Yellow /mustard Orange Gold jewelry Teal/Turquoise I think the Rust and teal look so rich together. Throw on a plaid blazer or olive green jacket and it looks like Ralph Lauren meets a Southwestern sunset.

I had my colors "done" earlier this year. My cool palette is great for Spring and Summer, but when it comes to Autumn, I love the warm rich landscape colors of the changing leaves: russet red, olive green, yellow ochre, even pumpkin orange. Plaids and checks, textured sweaters over dainty floral blouses, long flowing skirts and crisp trousers. Loved the inspiration photos you showed. Thanks, Lauren.

I'm northwest of Boston. Out first frost date is expected to be around Oct 10. You'll need layers if you're going to be in the Boston or Amherst areas. You'll need warmth in November for sure. We can have snow in November.

I think you will completely rock the warm fall colors. I really like the camel, cognac and brown. The cognac looked close to our hair color. If it is, it will be a fab neutral for you. Looking forward to how you take this forward.

I'm with you on this Autumn is my favorite season and I've been planning my autumn capsule I think of pumpkin patches Apple picking and dressing accordingly and just the fall colors they are my favorite I always include plaid I love it my colors are olive/ hunter green mustard yellow maroon basics Carmel beige navy and black I'm adding baseball hats and a news boy black velvet hat

This time of year I’m always longing for my boots and plaid blazers! But, I know it won’t cool off until the first or second week of November. You are definitely an Autumn color type, this is your season, lucky. I love being a Summer type, except in the fall, when I want to wear traditional, natural autumnal colors, but I know they don’t really suit me well, nor work with my wardrobe. I was really tempted by Nordstrom’s rust suede bomber jacket, but I decided to stick with the cooler brown one that I already have. I have a few older Western items from Ralph Lauren and Sundance: a tan suede jacket with western details, a suede-trimmed cotton southwest-pattern jacket, a suede skirt and a long denim skirt, and I will wear them this fall while the Western trend is in. My current style is very different from when I bought these, but I love them too much to let them go.

I love autumn too... but I try not to say it too loud in my house, because it means winter is coming (and my husband hates winter). But when you live in Saskatchewan 🇨🇦 and winter is harsh and almost half the year long, it's understandable!

I do not like having to wear clothes or shoes at all ( I’m not a nudist…I am just very sensitive and less is better) I always hate to see summer go where I can wear light dresses and just ‘less’ clothing and easy to style and wear sandals. I dread the cold weather and having to put on close toes shoes or long pants/ jeans let alone coats. I wear my sandals and shorts as long as weather permits and just before it starts looking ridiculous. I also so look terrible in all the warm colors so finding ‘my’ colors is very challenging. All the warm colors are just so much more popular in stores. Sigh.

Hi Emily! I totally agree; it can be tricky to find these pieces! I always try to look secondhand first, but I know that Sezane usually has gorgeous warm, vintage inspired pieces. I also think that Doen, Madewell, Rouje, Free People, Imparfaite, some Anthropologie brands, and The Great do these vibes pretty well. I don’t own things from all of these brands, but I see their collections advertised to me all the time, and they seem to have some lovely pieces. Not all are very budget friendly, but they might be a good jumping off point to start your search!

Do you have any tips for a “cool winter” palette? I love fall but I feel like the typical fall colors wash me out easily and don’t flatter me as much. I also recently spiraled with the color analysis over the last week or so haha

Hi, I'm not Lauren, but did you try some jewel colours like emerald green or a cool toned deep burgundy/ruby red? You can warm those colours up with some accesoires (shoes, bags) or trousers/skirts in cognac brown or mustard yellow, if you like, for example. Just get inspired by Laurens colour palette or on pinterest and add a few colours that does'nt suit your colour season for pieces that are away from your face. Maybe a coloured jeans (burgundy?) or chino (rust or mustard?) makes a great difference in your wardrobe and it still matches with all of your neutrals and some other colours. I'm cool toned too and I'm drawn to those colours each autumn. I really like richer and deeper colours in this season. Summer is more light and airy with more withes and pastels.

Yes I love the fall colors too but the mustard yellow tops I had I never wore bc they weren’t flattering but I like the idea of doing the accessories or bottoms/shoes instead. Trying to find the right toned red is hard for me atleast when online shopping, but I might need to look more in person. Thanks for your tips!
