My husband and I stumbled on this hike in June this year. It was hot and steep but totally worth the climb! I thought I'd never make it but we did! I am 62 and hubby is 66. We walk about a mile or two a day and this was a challenge in the heat but it was nice that they had places to stop and sit for a minute or two. On the way back, a little before the gift shop, we saw a bear! Everyone was so respectful, letting people know to stop and see it but keeping a distance. I also enjoyed the stop at the border you showed and hubby and I walked about 40 steps on the Appalachian Trail just to say we did! :-) Thanks for sharing this gorgeous video of the fall colors!!! Smoky Mountains have my heart!!!!!

I was at Clingman's yesterday doing that same hike to the tower. Fortunately I was able to get a good parking spot near the bathrooms but it was a long slow drive to get there. While I was on the tower I watched an 84 year old man struggle to make the last 50 feet. He was so exhausted at the end and just wanted to sit down to rest. Another older lady was having problems making it down and a park ranger was with her waiting for someone to show up to help get her back down. I'm surprised they don't offer some kind of shuttle service for older and disabled people to get easier access. I even saw some people that gave up and turned back because the hike was too much for them. Otherwise it was a great day to be outdoors in Tennessee with the excellent fall weather.

It was a great day to be outdoors in Tennessee yesterday! With the limitations of the paved trail, I am not sure a shuttle service would be feasible to have in place in addition to pedestrians. Hopefully those who can not make enjoy this virtual trip up!

It sure was a beautiful day when you were there. We were up there once in October, and it was so cold and very foggy and snowing at the top. We could not see a thing after hiking all the way up there. The trail is only 1/2 mile, but it is pretty steep and at a high elevation . Thanks for sharing this adventure with us.
