I literally hesitated to click on the video because I saw it was uploaded 8 years ago 😅 but I'm so glad I did! I stumbled upon this TikTok live where they were selling plushies, and I couldn't resist buying the cat character for just 2$ (currency exchange from my country) and it's also 14 inches. It was such an impulsive buy. Now, I'm eager to learn more about its franchise, but I'm struggling to find any English videos on KZbin that explain these creatures. Thank goodness I found your video since itt gave me a rough idea of their names and what they are. By the way, I'm curious, why are they so popular in Japan? Do they have cartoon shows or movies over there? I'm a bit puzzled about the purpose of the franchise since Japan has a different culture. LOL Also, big shoutout to you for still uploading videos! I actually watched some of your content, and I must say, your videos showcasing things in Japan are absolutely amazing! I just had to subscribe. Keep up the fantastic work, and thank you so much!

They do have videos and movies, but essentially they're created to make merchandise. (Apart from the obvious main purpose of being super-cute and adorable!). They're created by San-X, which is a similar company to Sanrio, which created Hello Kitty, etc. They're always bringing out new merch and gifts with the characters on, with various themes, and every time they're absolutely adorable, without fail! I kinda fell in love with the sumikko’s, I showed them to my little nieces, they like drawing them and often ask for little stickers. And for a sticker they are prepared to help with the dishes 😄 also I like that they like them. I saw the movie too, I think it was so sweet. My nieces might learn English enough to somehow understand the movie too.
