There is really only one way to summarize this whole affair: "Dammit, Turin..."
@ParleLeVu Жыл бұрын
Turin's greatest enemy is his stupidity. But he is not alone. Beleg could have tried waking Turin BEFORE cutting the rope, because you never know. Orodreth could actually think logically ("a much greater force than mine got wiped, maybe I shouldn't challenge those who wiped it") and not compromise his strong position. The bridge-building is so god damn dumb I can't even fathom it. Annihilation will follow if they fail and the bridge stands, so they BOTH attack a much greater force AND make the bridge a freaking monument to craftsmanship. It's like playing russian roulette with 4 bullets and pulling the trigger 3 times. And later on Turin goes mad and kills himself because he banged his sister. Why? I mean, disgusting, but she's not pregnant or anything. You have nothing to live for because you were tricked into doing something you think is vile? Why not just effing gather yourself and use your insane might to kill every servant of the dark lord you see? At least that will make up for some of your mistakes.
@alexandersturnn4530 Жыл бұрын
@@ParleLeVu Actually, she was pregnant. And killed herself for it when Glaurung told her the truth AND she thought Turin was dead. But that wasn't the only reason Turin killed himself, there were a myriad of others.

CoH is my favorite Tolkien story. It's the most like an ancient Norse saga - the heroes are strong, and emotional, and deeply flawed; and the villains are powerful and dangerous in ways that the heroes cannot defend against.

Glaurung is the coolest thing ever lol. He's a very classical big bad dragon (not like a modern subversion) yet his twisted cunning is psychologically absolutely thrilling. How much is he his own autonomous being and how much is the very voice of Morgoth himself speaking through the dragon.. Love the artwork as always!!!
@Kyle-qd2sy Жыл бұрын
I have to imagine that while he operates under Morgoth's will, he still is autonomous and capable of making his own choices. From what I remember Glaurung disobeyed Morgoth and went out of Angband to attack the elves before he was fully grown, so there seems to be some level of independence there.
@dromankass865511 ай бұрын
The dragon spell that Glaurung wove that so ensnared and trapped Turin, in the books Smaug attempted something similar the second time Bilbo ventured into his lair, and it almost worked, Bilbo was on the verge of removing this Ring and trotting out of the secret passage when the came to his senses and manged to shake it off. Also while Glaurung's victory was a success for Morgoth, he kind of lost his most powerful chess piece as a result. Because Glaurung took over the ruined halls of Nargothrond and all it's treasure, and made it his new lair. Basically the dragon then refused further orders from Morgoth as he was quite content to guard his treasure hoard and not involve himself further in the conquest of Middle-Earth.

Interestingly the Elves that warned Orodreth and Túrin to destroy the bridge were Gelmir and Arminas, bringing the Valar Ulmo's warning of Nargothrond's fall. On their journey they had crossed paths with Túrin's cousin Tuor. During the threats and insults exchanged between the Elves and Túrin, they said he didn't have the bearings of the House of Hador, whereas Tuor did. Túrin took this insult about the appearance of his mother's dark hair, as the People of Hador had blond hair. The Elves corrected him it was not about appearance but the lack of noble character of his house.

I heard somewhere Turin and the elves did some damage to the forces of Morgoth in the area before he sent the dragon. Is that a misreading of the information? Cause it said, the elves admired Turin's prowess with his sword in battle.
