Love the fact that you try to play it a bit more historically by trying to hold most of the provinces (with the exception of the non-savable ones) and not just destroying everything and campering in Italy. Also the defensive siege battles when you have a decent army (first battle) you set up to hold a big part of the city and just retreat when things get bad, instead of having everyone cramped in the town center from the beginning (the "easy" way to win a defensive siege).. Kudos, makes the whole thing feel more realistic which is something really enjoyable!! Fyi the battle settings, I have a feeling they are also on "very hard", don't know if that was intended.

In the early campaign as Rome your troops are depleted, your cities pissed off, you lose a lot. When you disbanded all those armies you made money but you lose all your forces too early then you burn all the money you made trying to recruit cheap troops. You need some military research early on as well to get better troops.
@dabo50783 жыл бұрын
nah cheap conscript spears is where they at. the only other thing u need is scout equites
@douglasblowe8053 жыл бұрын
@@dabo5078 Mostly but it is always better if you have 2-3, maybe even 4 slightly better spear units and as many javelins or slingers as you can get as well. The cheap spears never last too long unless u can cram them into narrow streets. I like to just defend the center, putting my cheap spears in front backed by javelins and then better spears that are rested when the enemy breaks thru. . I also always use the mobs by putting them as far away from the center and oncming troops as possible. They get ignored 95%+ of the time and then u charge them into the back of the engaged enemy when they are exhausted. Many times you can break the enemy just by using worthless troops in a rear/flank attack while they are locked with your spears.. I also try and keep all mounted units outside the battle area so they can charge in and hit enemy missile troops and maybe even make a few rear charges.
@dabo50783 жыл бұрын
@@douglasblowe805 for 4 slightly better spears you get 2 more conscripts. Since flanking is so powerful in attila I would rather go for more conscripts than professional spears/swords at least in early game. Especially as the Romans since all your conscripts have heavy armor and defensive testuedo making enemy missile troops and calvary basically worthless. The only threat u will face is mercenary axes and other spears which your scout equites could wreck easily.
@douglasblowe8053 жыл бұрын
@@dabo5078 ok we agree mostly lol. I usually let the cities that revolt go, and then wait for an enemy to take them and I take it right after before their troops regen.. Most of the time I use a couple good spears, 6-8 sword, 2-3 cav and as many slingers/archers/javelins as I can. Then I can usually get the city back on track fast . Always build max # of armies/navys but most only have 3-5 units in them except for my 2 strikers until I go for an enemy. If I can I try to finish them off fast. If they only have 1-3 cities I hold them, if more I destroy the 1st couple and rebuild later.
@dabo50783 жыл бұрын
@@douglasblowe805 @Douglas Blowe As the Roman I conduct a pre-emptive genocide against the Germans along my border, especially the Quadianis (you can kill them off on turn 1). I do the same in Britannia and tear down any buildings of worth near the border and invest them in Hispania and Italia. I usually ally and settle the Suebians but, on some of my campaigns killing them is also viable just expect more setbacks. By the time I can afford real professional armies the game is pretty much over lol all i have to deal with is the camping huns who set outside of my walled and garrisoned cities raiding.

Little tip for the scout equities the next time you play through this campaign: Keep them moving. Literally the best unit you have for this campaign in terms of garrison, so long as you can keep the anvil and move troops where you need them, the scout equities will kill hundreds, if not upto a thousdand, with half their unit size, each. So long as you keep them moving and using them as a hammer constantly. Even if a unit doesn't break, it doesn't matter, the morale damage is done from the charge.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I hope it’s a full campaign. I love Atilla Total War. Don’t abandoned cities as this will create a huge public order crisis across your territory. Instead tear down all the buildings in the settlements you don’t want. This will provide you with a great deal of money and will allow you to walk away without any penalties. It also denies a fully functioning settlements to which ever factions move to take them.

What I did in my own campaign was to destroy all of the churches in the beginning: way too expensive to keep. Then I decided that it was too difficult to defend so many territories, decided to focus on North Africa, I abandoned France and Spain. I organised my resistance in three different parts: North Africa (cause there are tons of money to make) England, not because it's lucrative (actually far from that) but thanks to its geographical position, makes it a pretty isolated base that will help you raid and reconquer France when the time comes. Finally, Italy, back to basics. I withdrew all my armies from Germany towards South of Italy to solidify a sort of a hard core of settlements that can defend one another if needed (in combination with the armies in North Africa that are pretty close) for the rest I literally sold/burned the remaining settlements because you just cannot hold them, or at least not for long. There is no point in struggling this much while the other nations grow stronger. There are so many wrong things in the Roman Empire starting position: corruption, starvation, religious conflicts and overextension, keep it small but difficult to break. Besides, the Huns are on their way, let the other factions deal with it otherwise you'll face too many armies at the same time. Plus you'll have tons of extra cash to restart and solidify these pockets of resistance thanks to selling the buildings.

New update on mount and blade 2 Rebellions will work like this: Settlements with low loyalty and security will be able to rise up against their owners. When loyalty gets low, more citizens will join the town militia to take up arms. Once they're stronger than the garrison, if their loyalty is low enough, they'll rebel. Rebelling citizens will take control of the settlement and establish a new clan, then legitimize their rule over time. Eventually, if they survive, they'll be able to initiate diplomacy with other kingdoms and become part of the game's simulation. Improvements to that simulation will help with this: AI characters will now get married to each other over time, and AI clans are going to get lots of new members. Additionally, those clans will have more children to keep their clans going longer, and the kingdoms themselves have gained some mechanics to keep them in the fight after losing a few settlements.
