LYRICS
i hope this is the last time
'cause i'd never say no to you
this conversation's been dead on arrival
and there's no way to talk to you
this conversation's been dead on
a rivalry goes so deep between me
and this loss of sleep over you
this is side one
flip me over
i know i'm not your favorite record
the songs you grow to like never stick at first
so i'm writing you a chorus
and here is your verse
no, it's not the last time
'cause i'd never say no to you
this conversation's still dead on arrival
and there's no way to talk to you
when you're dead on
a rivalry goes so deep between me
and this loss of sleep over you
this is side one
flip me over
i know i'm not your favorite record
the songs you grow to like never stick at first
so i'm writing you a chorus
and here is your...
whoo!
this is side one
flip me over
i know i'm not your favorite record
so-o-o-o
this is side one
flip me over
this is side one
flip me over
i know i'm not your favorite record
the songs you grow to like never stick at first
so i'm writing you a chorus
and here is your verse
here is your...

Three things: 1. This makes me want to join a band; 2. The people at this show were so lucky and probably had no idea; 3. They still put the same amount of energy into their performances now as they did then, while remaining totally humble, and that amazes me.

Being in a local band myself, the goal is never to get big. If that was your goal, that's where you see the energy diminish. The goal is always to have fun because you love doing it. When that attitude changes, so does the show.

KZbin is literally a time machine. I am so happy to see the young ones learning of vintage FOB. I listened to them when I was 15 I am now 28 it’s honestly crazy. I could keep rambling but honestly FOB holds a special place in my heart. The amount of broom sticks I broke trying to spin around like the Pete. I guess this is what they mean by “I wish you knew you were in the good old days before you actually left them”

I love the line "I know I'm not your favorite record, but the songs you grow to like never stick at first" since that perfectly describes me getting into FOB's older stuff when I was 12. Growing up (hah) on pretty much just mainstream pop and my parents' music, I had never heard any pop punk before, so this and From Under the Cork Tree were the first pop punk albums I had ever listened to. Couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the genre!

As a 20 year old millenial, I secretly live in the early 2000s, and this video highlights the most beautiful moments of that period of time. When I listen to this song, I almost shed tears, its like a reminder of a past life. I attended a Fall Out Boy concert in a past life, and now I cannot stop reliving the experience.

I'm actually so upset i didn't know about FOB at this time, when they where small, and just getting started. I learned about it so recently, as in last summer. I fell in love with them, they are everything I want in a band, and I would give anything to see them live, or meet them. Like other bands similar to them, the whole area around them, they're good, but fall out boy is loud enough to drown out the world, yet quiet enough I can hear lyrics, and then Patrick Stump is the BEST. So don't say you like old FOB or new FOB better, just love them, and be glad they exist.

Thank you.. I may actually get to see them soon, theyre coming near me on tour thiss summer and Im really hoping I can go, which is awesome. Also Im really glad other people see it as I do, cause Im pretty alone where I live as far as even liking FOB. Im still very sad that i didnt get to be a fan back when they were unknown, because I cant claim much age as being a fan (and the only positive there is I missed the hiatus), just a lot of love for them... it would be totally awesome if we could like talk about FOB... I dont have anyone to love them with :(.. have an awesome day btw :)

This album was released when I was 10, in 2003. Before then I heard this song on the radio once when I was 9 and cleaning house before my life was destroyed. Almost 20 years later I’d buy my youngest sibling all of Fall Out Boy’s albums, including Take This To Your Grave, which believe me was no easy task. I spent that whole year scouting every website I could for the best deals. I succeeded and in celebration my sibling puts on Take This To Your Grave. And wouldn’t you know it, this song plays and I was transported back to that time. It was a terribly happy memory I’d buried because PTSD does horrible things to your brain and my childhood was an empty time; I didn’t even have the chance to spark a sense of self until I was 18 when most people develop theirs in their early teens. Not me; I wasn’t allowed to have one until my parents divorced. But I remembered hearing this song that one time and I got super excited, flailing in autistic joy about a rare childhood memory that wasn’t totally horrible. My sibling at first refused to believe me, even yelling at me that it wasn’t possible for me to know who Fall Out Boy was before them, until I sang the whole song without help from the lyric book. My mom backed me up because she had the radio on when we cleaned house every week before the youngest was born, but even she was impressed with my memorization of the lyrics. Being autistic I can hear a song once and store it away for a decade or more. My sibling knew this and finally believed me that yes, this band has been a part of my emo phase since its infancy. I just locked away the memory because it was too painful to look back on my childhood for so many years. They couldn’t believe Fall Out Boy was together for so long, but they’ll turn 19 soon; they’re learning how much they missed out on and I understand how upsetting that can be at times. I, having had an abusive household, missed out on many crucial coming of age shenanigans - prank phone calls, going to parties or dances, hell even having more than 3 friends was an excuse for my father to scream at me, hit me, and call me a drug-addicted whore (despite being a virgin until I was 17, the last person in my high school to give their virginity, and stayed away from even marijuana until I was 28). So I understand that sense of envy, wishing you could have the same experience as someone next to you. That recollection of cleaning house was one of exactly 14 happy memories I have of my pre- dead grandma years, back before my father became abusive and started hating me for existing. It brought my sibling and me closer together, and the memory they unlocked is one I can safely say is the closest thing I have to nostalgia. To this day I can tell them of other hidden gems I heard from the radio and they add those songs to their playlist. It’s not a sad story as a whole picture; it’s quite a happy story, one I’ll tell my sibling’s kids until I die. But like every happy story, it has its sad parts. If you’ve read this whole comment, I thank you for staying with me. I understand the boring issue about not whittling my story to its bare bones, but context is importantly to understand how much of an impact Fall Out Boy bringing back a pleasant memory had on me. I hope you enjoy my story, and I hope you have a similar euphoric experience in this life.

in my opinion: they've definitely improved. I admit, some newer songs cannot beat songs from albums like From Under The Cork Tree, Folie á Deux and Take This To Your Grave, but bands change their music - accept it. Just be glad that they're still here and that they still give a damn to make amazing music for all of us. I think we all need to respect their decisions, so just please try to enjoy ALL of the music that they've created.

So I was 2 when this came out... and 6 when I first heard this band on rock band. I remember playing the game with my brother and all I was doing was begging him to replay this song and "I'm So Sick" by flyleaf. He would do guitar and I would sing. So it was fun for my brother to watch a little 6 year old scream to Lacey's part in her song, and freak out to this one which was his favorite band. After hearing this one, I made my brother play me the rest. Then I just grew up loving every album. So I can proudly say I have grown up with this band. The exact same thing happened with "Nine In The Afternoon" with P!ATD but I won't get into that since this is a FOB thing :)

I don't like how people are saying old fob and new fob. It always has just been fall out boy. Sure, as a band that is capable of growing, they and their music is constantly developing and changing, but that doesn't mean that when you listen to it, you don't automatically think "this is fall out boy". From TTTYG to SRAR, every song is characteristically fall out boy, regardless of how "the sound" may change. So I say, I love Fall Out Boy, as they have been and will be.

20 years ago… One thing I remember is catching Sugar We’re Going Down on MTV in 2005 when I was 10 years old at my childhood BFF’s house. Then my older Brother caught their song Dance Dance playing on MTV in late 2005 or early 2006. He’s a hiphop junkie, and he loved the song. Then in 2009 I went on a dig for this band and all their songs. Listened to them all throughout HS. All their albums. I swear, this band broke the subconscious need for our family to stereotypically listen to R&B or Hiphop. This band got the ball rolling. He started listening to all kinds of music after hearing them.
