What kind of camera do you shoot photos or videos on when you travel?

canon sx40 HS, it worked great until i dropped it one too many times, the internal lense popped loose and canon refuses to service older models. i will probably buy a used one on ebay for a fraction of the price, still have the minolta 35mm, but you dont know what you have until the film is developed.

I bring the 5d classic and Fujifilm cameras with me on trips. Both take great stills straight out of camera. For video, I use the GoPro and my smartphone. Great video.

Hey, my stomping grounds! I grew up in LA and have been all over that area. I still go to the Sierras regularly for backpacking and alpine fishing. When I was a teen I got stranded on that island in the middle on Mono Lake. Short version, We paddled a child’s inflatable raft out to the island, the winds picked up, we spent the night. Good times! I’m proud to say, that’s not the only time I’ve been stranded on an island. Adventure on!

My favorite hike so far in that area is the Little Lakes Trail which starts at Mosquito Flats above Rock Creek just a bit north of Bishop. Easy, 5-6 mile hike … all the pristine alpine lakes and spiked mountains you pass on that trail… I always get a little headache from the altitude (starts about 10,000 feet) but the scenery is so worth it. If it’s your first trip, you will have a hard time keeping your camera put away. Mid to late September is a great time. Fewer people and great colors. Cold at night, though (20’s). There are some really nice tent sites at the far back end of Rock Creek campground and the bathrooms have heaters! About the camera, that mic sounds really good for an onboard mic. Thank you for the video, Alice!

Adding this to the places to explore. Thanks for sharing Alice, can’t wait to see what you experienced in Jordan! Have a great week ahead 😊 Happy Trails!

Simply gorgeous. I love the Eastern Sierra, especially the area around Mammoth Lakes. Life in general has kept me away for the last two years, but I am bound and determined to adventure up there at least twice in 2024. I tend to shoot fujifilm when I do run-n-gun travel photography. It gives me a great balance of size to performance with their APSC sized sensors and their wonderful film simulations.

Great editing. Beautiful views of the area. I think the final segment of this video is the best part among all other shots taken, where you are standing above water and the lake in the background. Blue skies helped for this, calm waters and the contrasts are superb, especially when mixed with the yellows of the fall foliage. Thanks for sharing. Love your hat! P.S. Do you ever take a break? 😎🌻👍🏔🥾

I'm wondering, were you shooting in HDR1/HDR2 mode? I feel like the color was a bit washed out on my OLED HDR display. Just an fyi :) I would love to have a picnic at the lake! Looks beautiful up there, have always wanted to check out the mammoth lakes area outside of winter :D

For photo or video? In video I either shoot in Log or Flat and in photo I am using color profile 1 I believe. My display seems pretty bright.

You missed Rock Creek Lake! Turn off at Toms Place & head straight up the mountain it is at almost 10,000 ft. Plus at the top of Conway Summit on Hwy 395 turn left on road up to Virginia Lakes & Trumbull Lake Campground also at almost 10,000 ft.

I need to research this new camera of yours. My wife shoots all her photos with her Samsung S22, but keeps commenting that she wished a DSLR or mirrorless had the same editing capabilities in camera as her smartphone does.

Love your videos Alice. I was interested to see that you are now sponsored by OM Systems and using the OM-5. I have been a long-time Olympus m43 camera user. I don't do much video, but there are several still-camera features of the OM-5 that would be great for you to feature in your travel videos, especially: Starry Sky Autofocus (p. 121 in the manual) - allows easily getting to infinity on a pitch-black starry sky Live Composite Photography (p. 62) - allows VERY long exposures without over-exposing an unchanging background - only areas that change in brightness (such as fireworks or lightning) will register in the shot while the unchanging scene will stay static - it builds a composite and delivers a final shot. Amazing! Pro Capture Photography (p.108) - allows you to easily capture a fleeting scene (like a squirrel sticking its head out of a hole for a brief few seconds). It buffers shots around what you want and later on the computer you can pick the shot with exactly what you wanted to capture. Plus, of course, amazing image stabilization and high-res modes. Enjoy!
