Did you ever think of creating a calendar chart of when your favorite online fabric stores have their sales? So if I knew that every year StyleMaker has, say, a big Labor Day sale I could save up for it and, also, plan what I need to buy.
@harlemhottie13772 жыл бұрын
Great idea! FabricMart just surprised me with 60% off *sitewide* for Labor Day. Sadly, I was in no way prepared and I couldn't just, say, buy ALL the wool I thought was pretty. 😥

The sleeves on your top look so cute! I'm glad you mentioned sewing being a creative art. I feel like sometimes I feel guilty making something just because I do use my hobbies as sort of a therapy. It just helps calm my mind. I am glad you are focusing on a eating plan to keep you feeling better doing a crazy time of life. I know that when stress and travel and other things take over, my health conditions flare and I'm really sick. It seems to take a lot to get over the hump and I feel like I can't do the things I want for others. Prayers for you and your family. Thanks for sharing your plans!

You are so right! My autoimmune flares up so easily when I'm stressed so keeping my immune system as healthy as possible is really important!
@justsewit_tk54772 жыл бұрын
An eating plan is a great plan. Eating well and as healthily as possible will also help the stress levels as you endure all the stuff going on. Handy to make healthy muesli bars and things like that when you are on the road travelling so much too. Remember the water and get sleep! Surprising how these two things have an effect on the body and it's fluctuations. I do hope your mum is going well with her treatment. It can't be easy for you being a fair trek away. But an eating plan will help you to be on top of something as it is often the first thing that flies out the window when the stress climbs. All such great ideas for your wardrobe. I'm writing a list as I'm listening but of course for Spring/summer - I'm hoping to spend time out of the house working so am planning some nice workwear.

I usually watch your channel on my TV so I can't comment, I write notes and it takes an extra effort to remember to write something, so I don't! Sorry. I am able to hit "Like" via my TV and try to remember to do that! At any rate, (here are my votes on) FABRICS and what to make: I would use the "Soft Shell Fabric" to make a Barn Coat; using a corduroy or cotton velveteen for the accents (upper collar, flaps or bands . . .). For the "Loud Wool Plaid" I'd make you a Norfolk or Field styled jacket because it would be in line with your Classic style, be very Autumn-ish, and your accent pieces (including using the "Mustard" for a pair of pants or mid-length A-lined or 6-gore skirt (boots!), Itch2St Balboa Skirt, Resolution Joggers, etc.) would work with it. I can't send pictures but if you Google Image search those terms (Womens - Barn Coat, - Norfolk Jacket, - Field Jacket) I think you'll see what I mean. Lastly, I am with you regarding facings flapping around, so, in spite of having all kinds of ways to keep them under control I usually prefer to line bodices. But a few months ago I saw this KZbin video on the "Ellie and Mac Patterns" site titled, "Review: What is Sticky Thread for?" featuring Nyeca. I've owned this thread forever, (I think used it once), but what Nyeca shows can be done with it and how you can pull off the regular thread leaving this invisibly holding whatever you want in place . . . I mean not only with facings but keeping pocket flaps and collar edges flat without having to top-stitch every thing! Well, give it a look/see; it would be fun to see what you'd do with it. I'm glad your Mom is surrounding by such good and loving people at this time. It really is the greatest help while going through it. In my prayers!

I love hacking! I rarely buy a pattern because patterns I have can be altered/hacked. The world is open to all the possibilities - Ex: make a shirt pattern into a shawl collar or bound edges instead of facings. Same with a jacket. You can extend bodice and add straight sleeves (like a kimono) to any top. Looking forward to your presentations. May you and all your family know that we are praying and supporting you in your time of need.

Please continue with pattern hacks. I would love to see some from the Itch to Stitch Sew Beautiful book. I know it's not size inclusive, but maybe could be combined with current larger size patterns. Is there anyway to hack the top you have on from any Love Notions or Itch to Stitch pattern? I see one similar in the stores with a knit body and woven raglan sleeves. Praying for you and your Mom for a good results. It's so stressful for families of cancer patients. Thank you for all your videos. I also love your newsletter and all your extras! Thought of you as I was at SR Harris this week with my grandson. We were picking out fabric for him to make a suit that's not black, brown or navy.

For my needed winter bright turtlenecks (Wisconsin knitter with a great sweater collection) I now buy enough fabric for both my TNT LN Arlington turtleneck + a LN classic tee or LN La Belladonna for fall/spring layering.

Hi Whitney, Yes to continuing pattern hacking. I’m currently on a mission to perfect the fit of a basic set of patterns, so I’ll be able to hack them into different versions. I’m just so tired of doing the same adjustments on every new pattern, and then having to make a muslin every time to be sure it fits properly. I want to be able to just grab a pattern and steam right in without a muslin, because I already know it fits. I’d rather spend time on creative tweaks to a pattern that already fits.

I really enjoy your videos. Lots of great tips and inspiration. Thank you! And I love that pointelle fabric! I'm thinking I might have to make myself a top with that. :) Could you tell me what makes you choose the Hepburn turtleneck over the LN Arlington turtleneck version?
@TomKatStitchery2 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I have yet to make the basic Arlington. I have made the cropped version and the dress with the balloon sleeve option, but just haven't got around to making the basic one. The Hepburn was my go-to before that pattern came out, but now I'm wondering if I should make the Arlington so I can compare!

I only sew to create. I don’t think I’ve made a garment that would work in a traditional capsule 😂 But I only buy 3-5 RTW garments/year.
