Bottom walker rigs are highly effective rig for targeting Walleye, especially when fish are being particularly finicky biters. I typically use bottom walker rigs in the spring when fish are feeding shallow, in less than 30' of water but wanted to demonstrate they can be used to target deeper feeder fish in the fall.
Tackle featured in this video:

I did a lot of walleye fishing when I lived out east. Seeing this has inspired me to find some walleyes northbound the border. Keep up the great content!

"There's a lot of places walleye aren't, and very few where walleye are." I hope I didn't butcher you words. I've never targeted walleye, but am really hoping to soon! Your quote is something I may not be able to rel to yet, in regards to fishing, but your quote perfectly embodies archery elk hunting, which I can definitely relate to! I have a feeling that the excitement and anticipation are similar! My newly found interest, in both Kokanee and Walleye fishing, I guess you'd better add other salmon to that list, is in large part, due to what I've learned through your videos. So, thank you! Now, back to the rest of your video. I paused it, at that quote, to comment lol.

Another great video! Thank you for all the info. On your bottom walkers do you cut off the top “arm” so its just a stick or do you keep that on? I have heard some like to cut it off so there is no chance of it tangling.
@spiltmilt
@spiltmilt Жыл бұрын
I keep it on there. I don't typically have many issues with tangling.

What time do you normally try to get out when fishing for Walleye. How long of a drive it it on the gravel to the Barker ramp. thanks for the color tips also will tie up some blue and orange for a change.

Weird thing about walleye is that I always tend to start early but often don’t find fish until mid-morning. I don’t know if that is a search result thing or a bite timing thing yet

I have tried to learn to kayak fish for walleye here in southern PA this year. I paddle around with planer boards out with bottom bouncers and butterfly blade spinner crawler harnesses. I have caught several nice keepers (17 inches). But I have never even gotten a bite in deeper water. I only catch them in 15 to 20 feet of water, never deeper. Is there a reason why never in deeper water?
@spiltmilt
@spiltmilt Жыл бұрын
Strangely they don't seem to venture deeper in the eastern US. Not sure why that is. Could be a distribution of food resources thing.

Many of my bottom bouncing catches have been 1/2 walleye 1/2 jumbo perch. I decided to tie up some smaller harnesses to try and get more perch. Do you have a favorite bottom bouncing lure for Perch?
@spiltmilt
@spiltmilt Жыл бұрын
Pretty much the same as Walleye except downsized although sometimes I will run a small jointed floating Rapala as well for perch especially when they are short striking.

@@spiltmilt oops sorry it’s a Depthmaster rod not a Baitmaster. Hopefully it works well but It does seem a bit bulky and not as flexible as I thought it would be.

7'6" to 8'6" glass or graphite are fine, rated up to 2 oz (you can run heavier weights), medium power.

Should the bottom walkers actually be bouncing off the bottom? Or should it stay suspended right above bottom? Had a tough time my first time walleye fishing at potholes and it seemed like the bottom walkers were dragging a little too hard when we’d go a little shallower. Love the videos!!

Why are you releasing fish caught that deep? Most likely will die from exploded swim bladder. Max should be 30 ft unless you plan on keeping them.
