Final Fantasy 9 has been in my pile of shame in the backlog for so long and I'm happy to report that I have finally completed it! This journey was not as bad as my chronicled Final Fantasy 7 journey, but I did still play it on the Steam Deck with mods. I really enjoyed Final Fantasy 9 and I hope you enjoy my review of it!
Have you played Final Fantasy IX before? And if so what was your favorite part of the game? Let me know in the comments below!

God this video was constructed and delivered so BEAUTIFULLY! Really actually brought me a tear and happy you enjoyed the game as this game is special to me, as what it made me a FF fan back in the late 2020s, it wasn't my first FF game, but it was the one that made me love Final Fantasy in general, so it holds a special place and definitely one of my favourite games in the series and JRPGs in general Looking forward to the potential Remake as well as Cartoon when they do get revealed.

No mention of one of the best aspects of FF9: how jam-packed the world is with secrets. Almost every screen has hidden items, flavor text, something you can interact with. It’s so rewarding and enriches the world, and many other Final Fantasies don’t have that

my first playthrought of ff9 was in 2003 when a good friend intruduced me to the PS1 Final Fantasy games. I was instantly hooked, i breezed discs 1 and 2, but disc 3 was missing. It took me 4 months to get a copy of that disc (It was very dificult to get ps1 RPGs in the country were I am from), then the 4th disc was very scratched and my old ps1 could not read it. I was finally able to get a ps2 in 2005 and then ff9 was the first game that I completed on it . I have similar stories with all 3 of the ps1 (main) final fantasy games, but 9 holds a special place in my heart, I learned english playing it (my native language is spanish), It made me fall in love with the RPG genre, and to get a taste for deep storytelling. I am very happy that so many people are discovering this gem of Squaresoft's golden era.

Absolutely superb video, perfectly encaptures all my key moments and memories of this game. I'm never one to comment on videos but seriously bravo on covering this game in an emotional way. It deserves it. It was the first ever game bought by my dad all the way back in 2001 on a *chipped* PS1. Im still yet to do a run through with the moguri mod. But with all the upcoming remake rumors i think this video was the final push I needed for my 20+ playthrough. Will definitely be checking out the rest of the channel and good luck with future projects!

Amazing vid Nish, this was well worth the hype and anticipation for, such a well constructed video, currently still on a replay of FF9 slowly grinding away at that when I can, but man this vid just showcases how beautiful of an entry it was to the series! 🙌🏾

Thank you for a phenomenal FFIX video! So thoughtfully crafted and a delight to watch. I grew up playing final fantasy games with my big brother. I watched him play FFVII as a child, but FFIX was the first one I played by myself. They are both hugely nostalgic for me, but the characters and the story of FFIX touched me in unimaginable ways. I think the big difference is that FFIX has bucketloads of heart in a way that VII doesn’t. Everyone can relate to the characters of IX in some way. Although the game has dark themes, in the end it’s uplifting and reminds us all that even in the darkest of times, we have a reason to go on - and most importantly, we are never alone. I agree with you that IX doesn’t need a remake, but voice acting would be amazing - I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this!

A Funny thing about FFIX is that, back in the day people liked to hate it, often saying it was "the worst Final Fantasy ever made" just like they did too with FFXII when it released, fast forward and those games became franchise classics, even regarded as some of the best entries, or even amoung the best RPGs of all time!

Sorta reminds me of Wind Waker how everyone hated it at first but its aged very well. I can also sorta see this happening with FF16. It was criticized a lot last year but I'm seeing a lot of positivity on it today.

7 was my first FF and properly introduced me to the RPG genre, so it holds a special place for me... but 9 is my favourite. It's my favourite piece of art, even, ever since I played it back in like 2003 or whenever. I love it so much, and it's so nice to see someone come in blind and feel similarly. Excellent video, and looking forward to see what you make of 10.

Check out the track "Girl/Daughter from Madain Sari" It plays with Eiko at the start of disk 3 when she's at Alexandria Did you notice it seemlessly melds Garnet's and Eiko's themes to symbolise their closer relationship and because the title 'girl from Madain Sari' would now equally apply to both of them?

Btw. The moguri mod has got a HUGE update in Moguri mod 9.0 just a few weeks ago that is a LOT better. Since it's still in beta it isn't announced on the website yet, but it is available through the Memoria Mod launcher (which also has had some really great updates in the last few months and now looks and works a million times better than the version budled with moguri mod 8.3) Edit: 16:24 this bug has also been fixed for a few months now in newer memoria versions. So it is really highly recommended you just install the new launcher and then get the new moguri mod from there

My FF9 experience was so magical. Wasn't the first FF I experienced but the first I completed, and I did so over multiple vacation periods starting from when I was probably 8 or so. Learning more and more as I replayed it over the years. Yes, the OG experience on the Playstation was slow AF. But when you know nothing else, you get used to it. However even I couldn't tolerate the slow agonizing speed of getting through the chocobo quest. I didn't commit to it in my first playthrough, so I was pleasantly surprised on my subsequent playthroughs to find out that my chocobo could swim and fly and find treasures on the map, it was like a whole new game! But still, the Hot & Cold minigame was too slow and too random for me to enjoy it. If there's one thing that no one should feel shame about, it's using the speed-up function in modern versions of the game. It is basically required for that sidequest to even be remotely fun. That and the 100% steal chance. Being held back by RNG is just not fun and drains energy so fast, even the energy of an obsessed 8-year-old with no standards and endless time to spare.

I can't imagine how long Chocobo hot and Cold would have taken if I hadn't used speed up 😅😂 At least probably adding 10 more hours to my playthrough if not more lol

Ergh, that's such a hard decision- Truly it is one of the greats (And the only one I would recommend as the title that encapsulates the magic and soul of the early games) naming it as THE #1 of the era (while I don't necessarily disagree) can be hard when there's an equally valid argument that Tactics was the best. In the end though, it all comes down to personal preference. (btw, @Nishquik Pops, if you haven't played FF Tactics yet, I cannot recommend it enough! You WON'T be disappointed!)

Glad you enjoyed this mod of Final Fantasy IX, but you should have played the actual game. Until you’ve gotten the 1/256 Fairy Flute steal off the Hilgigars legit you really can’t say you beat the game, Nish Wish you could have experienced the full ending without the game crash killing your immersion. Zidane revealing himself to Garnet was so heartwarming. Easily the series’ best couple, which is saying a LOT

I always said 9 is the best final fantasy made. while not my favorite because that belongs to ff8. overall with ff9 the story gameplay and esthetics this game is a fond memory of a play through. FFX is my second favorite hope you enjoy it when you play it. For me I played FF 7- FFX/ tactics one after the other with legend of dragoon, parasite eve, xenosagas and chrono trigger and cross and related games one after the other in the early 2000s and it was one of the best eras in gaming for me especially with the legends like mgs devil may cry and resident evil games along with Zelda’s Mario Metroid and so many other games that were amazing too. Ff7 is my fifth favorite final fantasy behind tactics and 9 so that’s just from maybe the order I played some in.

I sometimes wish I was born earlier bc the 90s were such a fantastic era for gaming, music, and movies overall. The PS1, N64, PS2, GC era is one I've been happy to delve into over the years and all the games are so good and memorable. Also concerning FF8, I do want to play it after some other games I'm prioritizing. The characters look so cool and I think I'll enjoy the junction system if I put the time into researching it.
