I would think the title of this is rather misleading… her husband isn’t a jeepney driver, but Kidlat Tahimik (aka Eric de Guia), who is a UP graduate and with post graduate studies abroad, and is a national artist.😊

That's why we Filipinos have "ka" in every relationship related words like ka-manggagawa, ka-klase, ka-babayan, ka-mag-anak, ka-inuman at marami pa...to signify as kapwa.

ironically,a german couple friends of mine were stranded in palawan in the mid 80s ,for the night .a filipino family invited them and had them slept in their own bed,whilst they slept on the floor. this can be attributed to our culture and our catholic faith. i said this because a Priest told us his congregants, during Mass ,that his vehicle got stalled in far flung area in Laguna.he walked to ask for assistance from a nearby house,unfortunately,the household there were anti Catholic and was refused assistance!
@tammie15994 ай бұрын
It is filipino culture in general not just because catholic🙄
@latesukiyaki99584 ай бұрын
This is a Southeast Asian culture not about Catholics. If what you are saying is true, why then Italians who are very Catholics are not the same? The priest you are talking about was probably denied help as we know many of them are known sexual predators or pedophiles. Just saying...

@FS-ph3sx5 ай бұрын
I think you mean "kababaang loob". Being "mababaw" means being shallow. So that's not a good trait, isn't it?
@dhayudz5 ай бұрын
@FS-ph3sx , you're correct. "Mapagkumbaba" may be the more appropriate word.
@offthegrid7775 ай бұрын
@@dhayudzI think the right word is mapagpakumbaba, "baba" means low or to go down. It's the ultimate expression of compassion and humility, to always put yourself at the lowest position and to treat others as you would want to be treated as if you are starting from the lowest position. That's what "mapagpakumbaba" means to us Filipinos. Kababaang loob means the trait of treating others not from a lofty place or position but being empathetic to those who are of low standing in society, to never be prideful or arrogant in your manner of treating others.

The concept of 'kapwa' as a philosophy is nothing new. He was probably influenced reading Richard Rorty and his sociological/philosophical concept of 'Responsibility for the other' that is, your whole life revolves around people you meet everyday, the jeepney driver, the street sweeper, the vendor outside your building etc. Albert Einstein said it best; A hundred times each day, I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of others.'
