Papa Roach’s version feels like the teenage angst/rage, like they will threaten to end things. Ronnie's version feels like an adult’s depression, and he’s pleading for help before he ends things. Really puts the raw emotion in the original lyrics that I never noticed.

@@Ericsaidful to clarify- last resort came out when I was 2 years old. I enjoyed and remember hearing it on the radio when I was around 13 years old driving home from various sports or activities I was a part of. I didn’t know the artist, nor was I old enough to do any research at that time. It was just fun car music. Then I was under a rock for the past 10 years listening to and studying primarily classical music. Coming back to various genres only now with the launch of this reaction KZbin channel. This being the case, I didn’t realize when Ronnie began that this was the song he would be doing as I wasn’t overly familiar with the title and only recognized it from listening to it over 10 years ago. In regards to Ronnie, I am definitely a fan but only as of a year ago and only in terms of the songs I have heard by him as I typically wait to listen to songs until I react to them. I hope this makes sense as I’m not trying to fool anyone 😅 These are just my circumstances.

@@maggiereneemusic Yeah, sorry for being edgy about that. I don’t really know why I did that. I majored in Music Performance and Composition (double) for ONE SEMESTER, so I can imagine you didn’t just study classical, you literally didn’t have time for anything else. I had changed my major for my second semester on during my freshman year. My advisor said “do you want to catch up with the first semester students. You seem to know enough to do well”. I said sure. Between ensembles, lessons, and my typical courses I was probably at a true 24 hours or more and l yeah, that killed me. So I switched to Logistics related shit which I semi-regret but it is what it is. I was around a lot of talented vocalists and I miss their serenades outside of the dorms lol. 😂 Typical 18 year old vocalist behavior I’d guess. I appreciate your insights and I apologize if it came across as I was attacking you.

I like to say this song kinda aged with us. Like, back then when this song came out we were mostly teens or preteens and I dunno about yall, but when I was younger I'd feel kinda of a need, an urge if you will, to burn the who or what were hurting me, pretty much like the original's vibe, y'know? And now... I kinda heal whatever I need to heal trough acceptance, grief or whatever Sorry if it isn't making much sense tho. My English is kinda limited, sometimes I struggle to find the correct words 😪 Anyway, what I'm trying to say is the original kinda helps you put sh*t out like you were a wrecking ball or something, while Ronnie's version is more of a "I'll cut you where it hurts the most and then cauterize the wound", iykwim

He said that he had asked a few bands that he respected to do a cover of this song and Ronnie was the one who took up the challenge. The only reason it wasn't called a cover, is because a cover song is just that its an exact copy of the original. That's why Ronnie calls it reimagined, and he also brought the song to a whole new level. Greetings from Australia

I’d have to disagree covers are not exact copies. If you’re here in the US it’s against the law to just outright copy someone else’s work and without permission you can get sued. Like Vanilla Ice being sued for directly sampling the whole riff from Queen’s Under Pressure on Ice Ice Baby. 🥂 from the States

For the autotune, he said he was in and out of the studio in under 25 minutes. This was supposed to be just the guide track but they decided to use it-----I'm guessing because of the raw emotion they captured that maybe wouldn't be as impactful several runs later. So it makes sense that they may have to tweak bits here and there if he wasn't as controlled as he would have been otherwise.

You're correct, there are two very separate processes going on, recording, like in this, it appears to be a very spontaneous take, then there's the production, where all artifacts are introduced.

Very few people do not know this is Papa Roach’s song. Jacobi Shaddix (Papa Roach/lead singer) asked Ronnie to come up with something for the 20th anniversary of the song and this was the result. The video of him showing Jacobi the unmixed version is priceless! Ronnie’s vocals…this is not new territory for him, he’s done this type of thing before. If you watch the video with Jacobi you’ll hear his voice unmixed.

@@nobodyimportant1337 😂🤣😂...Ooooohhhh, you don't say, 238 million, my oh my!!! Well since YT gives up to 5 views to one IP address, per day, the number of people that watched it on YT is likely a little less. No doubt it's an iconic song, especially in the West, but there's more people than that in the U.S. alone, there are 7.95 BILLION people on the planet, not to mention, of the 230 some odd people that saw it on YT, or heard it somewhere else, how many of them, 20yrs later, could name the band? Yeah they may know the song, they may love it, but I'd bet a fair estimate would be at least half couldn't name Papa Roach if their life depended it on it. So I stand by my original comment, the amount of people that were actually into the band that created the original last resort, enough to easily know their name is attached to this song 20yrs later, is indeed a small circle compared to the 7.95 Billion people on this planet. Your comment wasn't even that bad, you were just the unfortunate one I commented on, others were saying, "there is literally nobody, that doesn't know this is a Papa Roach song"....lol. No hard feelings, was just bustin balls anyhow... ✌💚

Autotune is a specific type of pitch correction, that people think of when rappers that can't sing use it, or pop artists add a little as an effect to their voice. Almost every single professional artist on the planet adds a little pitch correction to their vocals for the studio version of their songs.

The problem with that logic is that a cover has to be faithful to the original, this is, as the title stipulates a re-imagined version of the original. It's like taking Mozart and putting it into metal form, yes it's not that band's song, but they had to rearrange the whole thing. The fact that they used the same naming for their own song is irrelevant, in the future it could be that they have released 10 reimagined "covers" of other people works and only 2 of their own, in which case someone will come back and say "Well, it's a bit confusing that they used the same name for their own "covers"!" Perspective matters.

It was a drone. The drone shots in this video are incredible! Ronnie is the goat!

It wasn't, most of the video is CGI, but I'm an FPV drone pilot, and I can promise you, some of those shots were definitely inspired by FPV freestyle drone maneuvers.

@sunshynff so when Vanover filmed with Michael Bay, they didn't use any of his shots and just did it with CGI? If you are right, then there's zero need for commercial FPV.

I resonate with this version rn as a adult I feel like I’m drowning and no one seems to see it the only thing keeping me going is my brother who I’m trying to help get away from our abusive mom trying to keep him above water even if I have to sink so he can breathe freely

I know this is an older post but - NO auto tune in this song.
@sunshynff
@sunshynff 5 ай бұрын
Autotune is a specific type of pitch correction, that people think of when rappers that can't sing use it, or pop artists add a little as an effect to their voice. Almost every single professional artist on the planet adds a little pitch correction to their vocals for the studio version of their songs, including Ronnie, it is what it is, it doesn't mean he's not a great singer. Don't be so defensive.

I dont know if this was mentioned but it just hit me. The very end of the video shows the world burning being put out. This video was a continuation of Watch the World Burn where the last scene showed the world catching fire. The exact same scene in reverse. Holy shit RR is a genius. Fellow vegas boy here.

As one of the reactors said, the original called to our inner teenager filled with anger, and this one calls to our now inner adult who had been beat down and broken by life

Great reaction. I really really hope you'll check out the video of Ronnie playing the unmixed version for Jacoby. Ronnie said the vocals are basically the first take that was only meant as a - I forgot the name - a track to give a general idea for the following recordings?! It turned out so good, that they decided to keep it.
