The plaintiff demanded the return of his rent until his complaints were addressed, but they never were, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant insists she addressed all of the plaintiff's valid complaints.

She was living in another state and did not own the apt building until her sister died in May of 2018. This episode aired in May of 2019, and it was recorded before then but there is no info on the date of recording. So at the time this episode was recorded, she had owned the building less than a year. Most likely less than 6 months.

We had a rat issue in my building and it came from tenants not rinsing out their jars and containers for recycle. They just throw them in the incinerator room on the floor. It doesn’t matter the peanut butter pasta sauce jars, Be surprised of the difference in your building. They moved everything to outside in a bin we can’t put any recycles inside the building anymore on the floor. Everything must be taken outside and out as well. We don’t have any rats now we had rats. Yes, not mice.

Plain and simple. He was mad that the defendant was going up on the rent. What he could have done since the defendant was amenable was to ask for a graduated increase due to budget constraints. Maybe $50 every six months until the increase was met. There are ways to meet both goals. Everything is negotiable. I'm sure that he had a serious rude awakening when he went apartment hunting.
