Such a gorgeous book - each shed is unique and inspiring, and I love all the tiny details Kotite features to help readers imagine how to create their own She Sheds kzbin.infoUgkxe9yi0sulKgsp0VJJCIrLWWkvVqcU7LFR . The feature on Dinah's Rustic Retreat is like something from a fairy tale. It's really inspiring to see how creative all these ordinary people are in making beautiful and useful spaces on a modest scale.

I live in the UK. In the first World War, 1914 - 1918, the government supplied small engineering firms with workshops, some made of cedar. There was one not far from me that was still in great shape the last time I saw it around 2001. That's a lot of winters, summers, snow and rain, scorching sun, woodworm etc. Cedar is a great wood!! It also makes superb guitar tops. Maybe the slice through the middle, which equates to being quarter cut, would have been a lot more valuable to sell to guitar makers. Thanks for uploading a glimpse of your life!

lol was about to say the same thing... I really don't get how people can be so self entitled that they think they can tell others what they can / can't do with the other persons property, If they think one shed wall made out of cedar is bad they'd hate to see some of the stables and animal enclosures I've worked in the entire structure was made from cedar, (the ones that weren't made with Iron Bark) all harvested from the property they were built on.

I don't know if I would have used such beautiful wood for that but You have made the most beautiful shed I have seen. I understand where you are coming from. I am a sewer and when I see beautiful material sometimes regardless of the cost I just go for it and buy me a yard or two and make something I can just enjoy and love, maybe it is the texture, the look or the color but I never regret it and I know you won't either. Sometimes I think people forget all the hard work we as artist put in to things and sell and that we also deserve "pretty" things. Congratulations on a job well done. Wish I could smell that cedar. Enjoy. If you happen to have a couple of boards left put them up in your daughters closet, years later when she smells cedar she will automaticly think of you. and a little block truck or car for your son.

Beautiful ! ! It's like looking at an OLD COVERED BRIDGE. I would build yokes from 4x6x18 and screw them to the posts. Then rest the purlins in the yokes. Just make sure to only secure one yoke first and clamp the opposite end. It will need to move around to get the purlin in. Then screw it to that post. - KJ

Well food for thought maybe he has a brush hog on the tractor and in order to get the tractor under cover with a front bucket and the brush hog adds weight to keep rear wheels on the ground when he's lifting a log , so he backs it in and the hog fits under the shorter board area and out the back of the shed . Which is logical to protect the bigger part of his investment. As far as people complaints about the use of the cedar planks he owns the right to use them anyway he desires even biulding an out house if he desires.!
@paulstan98284 жыл бұрын

@@falllineridge I would use that idea for the end walls and front wall for winter and for ease of removal of the tractor and mill.
@jaquigreenlees4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelgoettsch7744 I agree the end and front could benefit with this, specially if they expect any snow. ( Evergreen trees tend to be in areas where snow is a common thing. ) Or even for when the win and rain are coming in from a different direction.

Fall Line Ridge canvas coated with beeswax is a pretty good waterproof material, canvas is already water resistant to a certain degree
@almonjacob34964 жыл бұрын
@@BESHYSBEES absolutely, canvas hanging in sections with a pole at the bottom could be rolled up in sections or all together and tied. This would allow the air to circulate on those hot days. Beeswax would remain flexible, that is a good idea.

I love the ramshackle look of the back of your shed. It's really beautiful. Moth's are carnivorous. Moth's and their larva eat animal fiber. They don't eat plant fiber. So cotton is safe. Unless the cotton or polyester or whatever is mixed with wool. It is a good idea to save some scraps of the cedar and tack them up to the inside walls of your closet. It doesn't have to be nice looking. you don't have to cover the entire walls. And keep the really small pieces to go into the pockets of your wool coats, pants, etc. Put the cedar sawdust into small cloth bags and put those into pockets or wherever. Take some of the small chunks and drill a hole in them so you can slide them over the hook of the coathanger. Or don't buy anything with wool. Or a mink stole. Or rabbit fur., etc. But most men's suits have wool so you need some protection for your Sunday finest. And you can't tell she-who-must-be-obeyed what to buy anyway.

If you cut your joining beams on a 45 degree angle and saw out an indent on your round support post, you'll be able to secure your horizontal joining beams together in the round post. The two joining beams are screwed together on the 45 degree angle straight into the round post. Also, a shed of that size with those walls would benefit from some sort of bracing. A brace forming a 'V' shape starting from the top left and top right and joining at the middle post at the bottom.
@dingoniner55284 жыл бұрын
How about this story. A church pastor says to a guy, "Hey, I know you want to cover the back of your shed, and we have this old cedar log laying in a field over there, why don't you help yourself?" The guy replies, "Nah, cedar is way too nice. You should offer it to a guy who needs to line his closet. I'm going to go find an uglier log." And the cedar log rots away.
