Black walnut tends to split a lot, the best you can do is get one of the splits into one board, and just get half width boards out of the rest.

👍👍👍 *Thank you for this content!* From what I saw through a quick google search, I was under the grossly mistaken impression that _any honey that can be poured is highly processed._ I love the dark honey that I am getting from western NC and was concerned about that honey being diluted. _I saw a photo of their property, where workers were pouring something into a hive from a gallon jug, and thought this was sketchy._ Maybe this is part of hive maintenance.

Build a steamer and steam the boards. Turn that white sapwood into dark like the heartwood. Less waste. :)

Hey Wes, great to video. About the cedar artwork. I preserved rough sawn eastern red cedar for a bathroom project by using marine epoxy. Thinking you could use some clear spray enamel to lock it in then protect with epoxy. Don't know if the smooth texture is what you are after, but will definitely lock in the character of the boards. Recommend you experiment to see if you like the look on a scrap piece. Thanks for sharing.

The simplest, easiest and most accurate method to determine the age of any tree? These books can give you a lifetime of information about trees and the essential role they play in the very existence of homo sapiens on this planet. Without trees we would not exist, it's that simple. “Trees of Power” By Akiva Siver “The Hidden Life of Trees, What They Feel, How They Communicate” By Peter Wohlleben ~ Peter has written 18 books about trees “Finding the Mother Tree, Discovering the Wisdom of the Forest” by Suzanne Simard “Tree Talk” by Dianne Robbins The seed of this magnificent ancient tree was lofted to this location on the winds of God. Landing in this location, successfully germinated and took root in the spring of 1635. All I did to find out how old the London Plane (Platanus X acerifolia), is in my yard that is nearly 12 feet in circumference ABH, I just asked her.

Nice Black Walnut. I only have Loblolly Pine right now. I can't find a tree service that will sell me their hardwood logs when they remove a tree and do clean-up.

Hey Wess, take an inch or an inch and a quarter wood auger and punch a hole in that walnut tree that you think is rotten. That will tell the tale if it is hollow and rotten or not. Also your little hunting buddy sure knows how to keep it real. He was cold and hungry and not afraid to let you know. How cool. Man, I totally get it that you have a higher calling that is taking you away but I for one sure do miss what you did before. One of my more favorite KZbin channels.
@GeoffryWK10 сағат бұрын
Or a hole saw of the right size and pull the plug if it's hollow. Or chisel your way in to remove the metal. Maybe salvage something from the dead tree.

We miss you. Yes, black walnut trees can be caustic to humans and animals due to the toxic chemical juglone that they produce:

Check your saw, should be a line on the clutch cover and maybe even the starter cover that can be used to point the directon of fall.
@peterrobino938311 сағат бұрын
You got some beautiful boards out of that walnut. Pertaining to the walnut sawdust, do not use it for bedding for any animals, because it is toxic to them also. You probably know this, but I figured I would mention this just in case. Great video by the way.

Do a small accent wall in the house with the wood preferably with the chalk high up. A peaked wall if possible. Sand the lower upper and side wood and put a few clear coats on all of it.

Good to see you and your son. That wood is beautiful. How's about a urethane clearcoat spray for that timecapsule preservation? I don't know if it would work, but I think it would preserve it for a long time if it can be done. See you soon!

My more observant family members have let me know that the chalk drawing in the video and the drawing in the flashback pictures are completely different. Either way, if you have any ideas on how to preserve the chalk in the new floor let me know. Thanks!

you can use a spray polyurethane first. Once it dries, you can roll on your usual sealer.
@michaeldowns23898 сағат бұрын
Yes ,I think what MamaK65 said or a spray acrylic sealer like Modj Podge would work fine or a spray laquer

That black walnut is a wee bit heavier than the sweet gum. My wife was up in Blue Ridge and went in a store that had live edge "exotic" woods. They had a 41" x 6' slab for only $4800. Don't worry about cutting it down. They aren't really common around here but you can find them pretty much everywhere. We just sold out house in Columbus, closed last week, and there are 4 growing there that my father planted in 2012. Keep us posted on the Chriatmas trees. We don't need the prettiest tree in the lot and I'd 1000x rather buy it from you than one of these tree lots around here. I'll even take a crooked one to set up on the dock so the fish get in the Chriatmas spirit.

That does not surprise me on the Blue Ridge store. We were up there not long ago and prices on things are wild. I just sent you an email.
