Great videos, and you explain the process of what you are doing very well. May the Lord bless you real good.

Hey Wes, It looks like the Black Ramp Irons have holes in them. It might be a good idea to get or make a few pins for them to retain your logs when you want to adjust the winching cable. Another idea is, get a second winch, so you are pulling from both ends of a log. This will come in very handy when you have a large diameter or very long log. Other wise, you are doing a great job learning your new unit. Keep up the good work and may God bless and keep you safe! And watch where ya put your fingers!!!

If you'll attach the two ends of a 20'-30' chain to your mill frame 6'-8' apart and then pull the chain out to a point and roll the log onto it, you can attach your hoist to the point and winch the log up your ramps evenly. Theres a crude video ("Parbuckling') on my channel showing my version of this. Congrats on the new mill!

I hang a five gallon bucket under the sawdust shoot to catch all the sawdust and dump it in a trailer. It saves you from having to shovel it up off the ground. It's the single best modification I have done to my LT40HD since 1992. You have a very nice upgrade there. I'll bet you get 50% faster production with the power feed.

First lesson is to position the log loading ramps so the winch is centred between them. I would have thought you would have went with the standard LT15 and reuse the mill platform and ramps you made for your LT10. Do you intend to mill offsite requiring the trailer tow option?
@davischappell46645 жыл бұрын
I would of put it on the old frame of the Lt10 that was built

50k! Congrats! In the first shot I felt like I was watching myself watch a low-flying plane while peavying a log along. My first log on the LT28 from the 35 was very slow indeed. And I ran the blade into a guide, which I had never done on the 35. Learning. You'll own it in less than a 1000 feet milled.
@falllineridge5 жыл бұрын
Bus Huxley Thanks, Bus! Actually hit a guide a couple of days ago with the blade guide bar. Not the blade thankfully. Threw the blade trying to back the mill out, then raised the head with the blade still on the cut. Disaster. See it all in my next video 🤦🏼♂️. Disasters provide the best learning experiences.

If you had a second winch you could stand in between them and winch alternatively . You might have to move the one that is already there. Seems like you will always be fighting the logs with just one winch My other idea is to mount a electric winch and if possible have a wireless control on your wrist, you could guide the log and shut it off and on with a touch to your wrist. Must be wireless things you could adapt.

I was laughing when you were loading the log (not at you, with you lol) only because I could see me doing the same stuff. I have been watching you and a few other guys milling lumber for a while now wanting to get one myself, well I finally pulled the trigger and ordered one. At first I ordered a LT28 but then I watched a few videos of how cumbersome it is to turn logs and get them on the mill, I am getting a little older (49) and I'm not in the best shape of my life (round is a shape) so I called Woodmizer back and changed my order to the LT35 hydraulic. It will be here in about a month or so, cant wait. I might make some videos and post them, not sure. Good luck with the new mill, I'm sure it will get easier the more you use it

Gum makes a beautiful wood but it will twist and warp with humidity and temperature. I have seen where some people paint the ends of the log and mill it into cants. Then they stand it on end for it to stabilize. Still not sure that it works though. I usually use Pecan, oak, and cedar in my shop. Hickory should look good but I found that Pecan produces a buttery color when I rough it out while green and finish it once it dries. It also is easier to work when green.

for all manual log loading, i ran into a similar situation you are/were having loading a log using 1 cable, returning back to the winching sys. while i was loading logs onto my gooseneck trailer. after several attempts, and unlike you, i had no peavey/can't-hook. since my logs were 36"+, i used a couple chains and made a bridle and hooked my winch cable to what i thou was center of the bridle and i didn't have anymore rolling of 1 side. for your operation, I'm sure your could use some braided cable, about the same size as you winch cable or some 1/4" chain, and attach it to the top frame of the mill. just a thought/suggestion to help out. and if you have to disconnect the winch while the log is still coming up on the ramps, use a ratchet strap to secure both ends of the log, disconnect, reposition whatever you need to or to take up slack somewhere. i know chain is more cumbersome, but it does allow for a more fine tune adjustment when working in those conditions. again, I'm speaking form experience and I'm sure i didn't have it all figured out, but i was able to load 12,000# of red oak in a couple hrs, compared to the couple hrs i spent trying to load the 1st 3000# log.

Wes , I have a question for you , why didn’t you set your mill up by the old mill set up , that way you could use your electric winch and log deck for the logs and transfer them over the old setup onto your new mill . Just something to consider.

Need some suggestions from some of u experienced sawyers out there. I have heard that sweet gum twists as it dries and if ur going to use it for interior walls (such as in a cabin) you should use screws to place it when it’s freshly milled to prevent it from twisting. Any thoughts??
@falllineridge5 жыл бұрын
Tango Alfa You’ll end up with huge gaps if you put it up freshly milled. Your best bet is to Anchorseal the ends and stack it straight with stickers. Put some weight on top. Concrete blocks work well. You can also ratchet strap the stack. I’ve had good success with just concrete blocks. Let it dry before putting it up.
