Largest cedar on my dad's alottment was 22' accross. It took a week to fall and buck it in slabs with a two man saw with 12' bar. Could only yard 12' slabs 24' long. In 1958.

As a wood turner, I'd love to see you do your initial trim cut to create a 2-3" flat and then do your next cut. The amount of wood you are trimming away would feed a starving wood turner for weeks, lol. Love your channel, keep up the good work. My son is a fellow Woodmizer owner. jc

I just looked up one of these Wood Mizer. It is pretty ridiculous when you are paying in the 600 dollar range for a miter saw and for 3k you get this. Its a bargain if you ask me! I grew up with us owning a regular saw mill. This little unit although slow compared to what we had is fantastic for the serious hobbyist Fascinating!

May be a simple question but when you cut, do you account for shrinkage as it drys? Do you saw it at 5/4 to get dried 4/4? I realize it is species dependant but for the most part does oak, pine, cherry, etc shrink much? Thanks!

Actually, no. Cedar is quite toxic. That is why it doesn't rot. Check cedar msds for required ppe to use to protect yourself.
@theshadow15595 жыл бұрын
The video was well edited and quite interesting to watch. However, the sawing may have been fun at first, but I would bet that along about now, you are beginning or already have, come to realize why the vast majority of people who purchase portable sawmills for profit sawing, spend the extra money and purchase the much larger, more powerful and more mechanized, hydraulically operated sawmills. In watching various sizes of name brand portable sawmills in action, it is obvious to me, that the Wood Mizer L10 and other sawmills of that size, were never designed for use as a business sawmill. The personal energy needed and expended in operating the mill, plus the number of extra hands required to load logs onto the mills bed and move slabs after cutting, etc. as well as, the time it takes to cut each lumber slab or board, aptly denotes that sawmills of this size are mostly meant for personal use and not as a continuous use, for profit sawmill.

If you never raise up the small end of your logs, so that the PITH, or the center of the log is level at the same height, you will never get the right amount of lumber out of your logs. You will just be wasting a lot of good unused lumber.

get a small tire no rim like or a "donut tire with a rim " 'what I use' " and put it on the opposite end and on the the side you are rolling to and roll against it and you can turn a log very easy. If you don't know look in to doing some figure, live edge, bookmark cutting...good money in it.

I think head of your mill touch the log in second cut. And you stopped the engine. How did you manage to cut it later? That is missing in the video. Could you tell me the maximum circumference of log woodmizer lt15 can cut?
@falllineridge6 жыл бұрын
Kamal Tamang You are correct! I had to work on the log with a chainsaw before the mill would go through. I think the LT15 can do a 28” log, but mine is an LT10 and it can handle 24”.
@kamaltamang93136 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reply. I'm from Nepal and not seen this type of machine here. We are using traditional bandsaw machine for sawing log. I'm interested in woodmizer machine. Let me know where are you from. When did you buy lt 10 @ what price? Also tell me something about maintenance cost of this machine. Thank you again.
@falllineridge6 жыл бұрын
Kamal Tamang We live in the US. The LT10 costs $3,995 here. It has been very low maintenance so far. I keep the oil changed, but aside from that there hasn’t been any serious maintenance since I’ve had it. I have been using it for about 5 months. I just sent a batch of blades away to Wood Mizer to be sharpened. It costs $7 per blade for sharpening.
@kamaltamang93136 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reply. We have to make 2"×2" lumber. Is this machine useful to produce this size? Most of woodmizer video is showing production of boards and square cants. Sometime I think woodmizer is useful only make planks from log and we need other machine to size the plank as per our requirement. Also don't you owe blade sharpening machine and blade joining machine?
@falllineridge6 жыл бұрын
Kamal Tamang This machine can definitely produce 2” x 2” lumber. In fact, you could cut multiple slabs 2” thick, then stand them on the end and make multiple 2” x 2” pieces at a time. It will cut a maximum width of 19”, so you could potentially make 9 pieces per pass once your slabs were in place. No, unfortunately I do not have blade sharpening equipment.
