I’ve hiked the Inca Trail going up into arid mountain and then down into the jungle. We made it to the Sun Gate at dawn and then watched the clouds briefly clear to reveal Machu Pichu in the valley below. I explored Machu Pichu that afternoon taking no photos save for a booklet of sketches (which I lost that same year). It’s the cleanest air I’ve ever breathed and felt like being on a different planet.

For those who are interested in the topic of polygonal masonry. A number of methods for obtaining the polygonal masonry are proposed. The basis of the proposed methods is the use of clay/gypsum replicas, a topography translator, and reduced clay models of the stone blocks along with a 3D-pantograph. The results are presented in the article: “Fabrication methods of the polygonal masonry of large tightly-fitted stone blocks with curved surface interfaces in megalithic structures of Peru”. KZbin does not allow a direct link. Search by the article title.

Actually avocados are not native from Peru, they were introduced in Tahuantinsuyo (Inca lands) until later when the Incas created an alliance with "The Paltas" a community from what is now Ecuador. The Inca married a woman from their tribe and they also used to exchange gifts in this process, that's how the Incas got avocados. People in Cusco loved it and rapidly spread around, the locals starting to call it paltas... Now the term palta is used in Ecuador, Peru, Chile (I'm not sure), Bolivia, Argentina and many more. And from Colombia to Mexico, people call it aguacate, which is an aztec word "ahuacatl".

Thank you for your podcasts. I listened to the one about the Mexica aka 'aztecs.' Amazing work. This one about the Inca is also mesmerizing. I am a native Mexican from Tenochtitlan, aka Mexico City. I happen to be from Azcapotzalco, where Tezozomoc used to live with his Tepanec empire. I don't know if it's just me but a lot of emotions surface up when I listen to these podcasts between anger, pain, sadness, and wonder as to why these events happened the way they did. In my mind sometimes I imagine the Mexica empire and the Inca one making contact and creating an alliance that would have been magnificent to witness. Thank you for your amazing work. 🙏

I’m interested in the Algonquin Confederation because they were living in my Town. The Tappan Zee Bridge was named for the Tappan Tribe and the Dutch word for Sea, Zee. Coumo changed the name of the bridge to the Governor Mario Coumo Bridge. We refuse to call it that.
