Oh yeah, I noticed that too. I watched the show with original Korean audio, but with English subtitles. I noticed the " hyung" part doesn't get included in the English subtitles--it's a little touch that gets lost in translation.

@@applefoodie Yes it is so important that Sang Woo tells Ali to call him Hyung instead of Sajangnim. That indicated their closeness which is why Ep 6 was heartbreaking. Yet the subtitles did not reflect the change so it gets lost to non Koreans. I do understand translators are underpaid so it is not their fault but I do hope they get paid more for future projects. I did notice the subs were updated recently, especially including more swearing because subs tend to water them down lol!

I think some of the nuances in Korean culture get lost on the international audience, and they didn't put that much effort into conveying that. But perhaps...with the popularity of Korean media, some of the cultural nuances might be better appreciated by the international audience, and moving forward, translators might put more effort into conveying those cultural tidbits.

I really appreciate the respect that Jimmy showed, that he did some research beforehand. I've seen interviewers ask Lee Jung-Jae how he's adjusting to his newfound fame, not bothering to learn that he's been a star in Korea for decades. It really reflects well on Jimmy and the show that he knows their names, and background on them, even though these are basic things.

Lee Jungjae, the main character in squid game, is one of the most well known and beloved top actors in Korea. He's been in the industry over 35 years. He played this below average loser character for the first time in squid game, but he normally plays a very charming, charismatic, or evil character in movies. I don't care what others say about it, but for me Lee Jung-jae's portrayal of Gi Hun was one of the most impressive acting performances I have ever seen. Gi Hun's character (next to Sang woo) was one of the most complex and multifaceted and I'm glad the director was able to win such a talented actor for it. Lee Jung-jae played Gi Hun so masterfully and believably that I suffered with him for the entire series and rarely have I been so emotionally moved. .

People who are not much aware of Korean dramas and movies industry, Lee Jungjae (Gi-hun) does not really do much dramas as much as he does movies. He rarely does dramas that his last one was from 2 years ago, and all his projects are really worth watching! Superb acting and a very very versatile actor!

She was absolutely flawless in her acting and perhaps the only character in the series that you secretly wanted to live until the last episode merely because you want her to share maximum screen time. Too bad she could hardly get a chance to speak in the interview , I waited patiently to hear her out. She looked so beautiful here and spoke confidently, I would love to watch more of her as an actor on the world stage in years to come. Man, as an avid watcher of Korean dramas and Korean movies for years, seeing all Korean content get more and more fans lately and seeing increasingly more Korean shows being talked about and available on huge streaming platforms like Netflix just makes me so so happy. Before I couldn't talk to anyone about my kdramas, it was just my own little world but now I have whole conversations with friends about some of them and it honestly just blows my mind. I hope people start appreciating kdramas more and more because it's honestly so worth it, trust me...! This cast did a great job, I absolutely loved Squid Game, and seeing my beloved actors on American TV Shows makes me really proud

The great achievements of the K-cultures of the recent's are heavily ascribable to those fans, who are with keen insight and brightness having laid the ground works for what it has become now.
