***** Just because you take anxiety medication doesn't mean you have a disorder, and just because you have an anxiety disorder doesn't mean something is "wrong" with you. If he has social anxiety, he has a disorder most likely (it's called Social Anxiety Disorder. Imagine that.) And you can manage it without meds, as with most every anxiety disorder. But a lot of people have medication for it, and some people have medication they take at certain times during explicitly stressful situations but not every day. Xanax is common for that. Stop making it sound like saying he takes anxiety meds is saying he's crazy. It's not crazy to have an anxiety disorder. They're incredibly common. I have one and I don't take meds for it at all (because I can manage it pretty well), but when I was first diagnosed, I took effexor. It was only to help me out until I could manage it. ALSO, as I said, people with anxiety due to a traumatic or stressful recent event, but don't actually have a disorder, can ALSO be prescribed anxiety meds by a doctor just to help them through the stressful event (like the passing of a spouse or other such traumatic events that can really hurt you, but don't necessarily leave you with PTSD or something.) In other words, medicine for mental conditions is not negative. It's just like taking cough syrup when you have a cold, or Benadryl when your allergies act up. Why is it suddenly a bad thing if it's brain medicine?
