As someone who grew up surrounded by many different cultures, I find it amazing when someone doesn't just stick with their own culture but get out of their comfort zone to find out about other cultures. When talent and art from one culture is celebrated in a different one, it's goes beyond the concept of culture, it becomes about humanity. Especially, in the case of Aisha Chaudhary (I don't know if you know her story), that is a very inspiring story, it shows how having a different perspective on a same matter can bring so much joy. I don't think hollywood was ever going to make a movie like this. So, If an indian woman who went out of her environment and is a perfect example of balance of tradition vs modern India, to make a movie about this girl, that is not about seeking for validation, that is about representation, that's the world we live in today. I personnally would feel traped if I was aloud to be in one box.

Amazing movie. Very Emotional and touches one's heart. There is no denying that Priyanka's #priyankachopra acting was incredible. Her character as a mother and the magnificent mother child relation is shown phenomenally. Farhan Akhtar #faroutakhtar as a father and complete support of the family. His situation handling and acting were hats off. Rohit Saraf #rohitsaraf as the elder kid...with all joy and jolly character is versetile. And last Zaira Wasim #zairawasim narration adds the backbone to this great story. I liked the second half of the movie more. And #dilhetohai song is all love. With few here and there errors....that is all disguised with the main Moto of the movie...this movie is worth watch. Great job you guys.

Priyanka is a way better and accurate representative of India in western entertainment industry than people like Lilly Singh, Hassan Minhaj and Mindy Kaling. Unlike them, Priyanka has more Indian elements in her than just the Indian DNA. I understand where you are coming from but at the same time if someone leaves India and moves abroad they don't stop being Indian (just like PC hasn't but she has adapted in some ways) and often times raise their children to be Indian. Of course we are different because we come from a third culture that is a mix of Indian and American, Canadian, Brit, or Aussie etc but when we walk around here even if we sound American we are always seen as Indian first by others here. So it's not so easy to say that just because someone of Indian descent was born abroad they are not Indian. I would say as part of the diaspora we are just a different kind of Indian. Many of us have spent a considerable amount of time in India or even speak the language even if we were not born there. That's the cool part though we get to pick and choose the best parts of both cultures and make them our own. And we definitely don't try to pretend that we are fully Indian. We recognize that our understanding of India is not full given that we did not actually grow up there. But we represent a different side of being Indian one that many people from India may not understand or know about either. We are constantly at odds with ourselves as we are raised Indian in a land that is not, so our home lives and our working lives are always opposing each other. It is hard to understand if you haven't been through it but it is the same for diaspora of any country it's not easy to figure where you stand when there are so many choices from both cultures.

First of all, the context I was was speaking in was representation of the country India, and not the Indian race. Secondly, I never said that they are NOT Indian at all. I just said that Priyanka is MORE Indian than them (not considering how they live their lives at home with their families, but how they present themselves and their ethnicity in public). You said "even if we sound American we are always seen as Indian first by others." Well, it's pretty obvious that (local) people who don't have deep knowledge about a culture or ethnicity- or any other thing for that matter- will have a superficial perception of it and define it only as per its visible aspects (for example, skin colour) and it's not their fault. But we all know that it is not a 100% accurate way to judge someone or something! Then why are you defining yourself based on their perception of yours? If you want to know how Indian you are, then the best person to tell you that would be an Indian living in India and not some westerner whose knowledge of India comes only from news and movies! I am an Indian as an Indian I don't relate to Lilly or Hassan as much as I relate to Priyanka, and I don't think that's incorrect!
