My parents named me "Anne" and have always called me Annie as well!!!! I have always gone by Annie my entire life and had to correct teachers, coworkers, coaches, etc. every first day of everything, so I felt this! I never knew this about "Anne" Hathaway... I feel so validated now! Sometimes my best friends growing up would call me Anne but I always thought of it like a shortened nickname for Annie spelled like "Ann". "Anne" always seemed so formal and not suited for me. My parents also did this to my brother by naming him Joseph (after my dad) so he could be a Jr., but calling him Jack!

Exactly why i went on here, i love Anne and thought she was going to say when she went into acting she must have thought about changing her surname because of Shakespeare's wife but no her and Jimmy seem totally oblivious about it, another person is the director Steve McQueen who has kept his surname the same which is his choice, but surely if you say who is Steve McQueen to people im sure 99% would say the great supercool actor not a director, surely the director would like to be known in his own right for his work not as a actor from years ago, the great David Bowie changed his surname from Jones because he didn't want to be confused with David Jones from The Monkees!! in Anne's case it doesn't seem to matter as it seems this part of english history wasn't taught in the US lol
