I wish the companions went unconscious like in fallout new Vegas, because if I’m not with dogmeat, fawkes or sergeant rl-3, I constantly have to babysit the other ones

Hey Eclqpse, yeah I agree. I like to switch out my companions from time to time but by then I am usually a high level character and at times I do find msyelf loading up slightly earlier saves because my companions have died. I do consider myself lucky in the regards as I love Dogmeat over all the companions and really only like to travel with him by my side for the most part. And later with the Puppies perk this is not an issue for me anymore. Thanks again Eclqpse for your comment, I really value it.

Jericho is my companion currently and dude kicks major ass. He pumps damage and can take a lot hits from my experience anyways. Been mowing through Super Mutant, Enclave and raiders like grass with Jericho and Dogmeat.

When you were going over fawkes, you mentioned that he’s the first super mutant in the game to be a companion, actually when fallout 2 came out, the super mutant marcus was a companion, remember marcus from jacobstown in fallout new Vegas?

Charon > Cross for most of the game. I like having a companion that can sneak and doesn’t automatically alert enemies when traveling to new areas. Endgame it almost doesn’t matter anymore but for the other 90%, Charon was straight-up, long term bro.

For a sneaky build, Charon does both look and part and complement that style. Plus he is fun to have around. That said if your going for a bullet shield then Fawkes or RL-3 are solid choices. They just don't go down. End game wise, as long as you have some good kit and a good selection perks then you practically don't need a companion to take anything down.

@@TrappedInFallout Fawkes and RL-3 are extremely strong in the open field but both of them kept having issue of getting stuck in entry ways and narrow places and uneven terrain sometimes, that I eventually gave up on both of them. Endgame when I do finally need a non-hominoid to scale with big stuff later, dog meat delivered just fine. He can’t technically sneak???… but he still worked well with a sneaking player since he does alert the player of a threat pre-emptively with a growl before you accidentally get into agro range. He’s also a low profile tank, so unlike the Fawkes and RL-3, he almost never gets in the way of players or charons shots, so less chance of friendly fire. Messed around with glitch to get all companions at once. Bad idea and too many got in eachothers way, that it caused problems all around. On new run that I’m blitzing 30 with exp glitch for maximum hardness near start of the game, pretty much resolute with sticking with just charon and dogmeat this time and no one else.

@@MarsStarcruiser That's pretty much what I do. I get Dogmeat as soon as I am able to and then make my way to The Underworld and get Charon. They both fit my personal playstyle and look the part also.

I used Fawkes and Dogmeat a lot and I guess I got used to their high damage rate because the first time I took out Star Paladin Cross she died fairly quickly in a fight with a giant rad scorpion. Fortunately I hadn't lost a lot of time so I reloaded the previous save and left her at the Citadel.

I have to admit I do the same thing. That said in FO3, Dogmeat and Charon are my personal favourite companions and it just so happen you can get both at the same time and they both benefit from the health boost via Broken Steel. They pretty much never die, like ever, and it keeps my journeys very interesting.

I have a mod installed that allows you to have multiple companions and it also removes karma requirements to recruit companions the companions I roll with are bucth, cross, and RL-3 I gave cross the wazer wifel and bucth picked up a plasma rifel so I gave him fusion cells and he’s been great in combat ever since and gave them both t-51 b

Ha ha yeah it does. Mind you not all, just Fawkes, RL-3 and Dogmeat. All the remaining companions retain normal HP levels.

I’ve always felt like it’s very important to get the other companions great armor. I’ll usually give them the T51-b as 60 DR goes a long way to making them less squishy. They’ll still get messed up by overlords, and reavers but it helps a lot.

@@TrappedInFallout Prior to Broken steel, you had to actively protect dog meat during any sort of serious fight with dangerous enemies (Behemoths/Overlords, Sentry-Bots, Albinos, Reavers, Trackers/Bruisers). I think Broken Steel buffed Fawkes & Dogmeat because they didn’t feel quite as durable as they should’ve been, albeit maybe a bit too durable after BS.

Its worth noting that dogmeat, Fawkes and Sarge are all bugged, hence their thousands of hit points. They were supposed to climb with the player but all of their stats kinda spike a little bit

Fawkes is a one man army, at the end of one mission I only had 3 hp bars and at least 4 super mutants and several centaurs came after me, he killed them all and I didn't have to fire a single bullet, maximum respect for Fawkes

Oh I don't think I will be able to. I love Dogmeat. Dogmeat is perhaps my all time favourite companion perhaps across all Fallout games. Fawkes is strong and I do love him also. For me both Fawkes and Dogmeat are about at the same spot, for me it's like deciding if Scorpion of SubZero is better ha ha.

I wanted to thank you for your videos, even though your beginner video which I 90% followed had me choosing the special training perk a lot in later levels to get access to traits such as silent running and better criticals due to the low perception, agility and luck in your beginners video xD. I met Fawkes for the First time yesterday and he/she was just the most "untainted" character in this game I've met yet. It may also factor that I don't like dogs too much and/or I thought you could only get dogmeat throught the perk associated with them. Sadly, I couldn't have Fawkes as my conpanion as I am an evil vault dweller who steals a lot, killed all of the tenpenny tower residents to let the ghouls in and told Zimmer who the robot man is xD But overall, Fawkes is just an awesome character in this fictional world of "assholes"

That said Charon is a cool guy, sort of a Mad Max character who you can find in the Museum of History. Then there is Sergeant RL who is a robot so no opinion there from him.

Why didn’t you include Charon on the list? I ask because he’s the only character that resembles no Karma sides because he’s a loyal character and can be easily obtained by talking to azruka. Aside from that he’s a ghoul that shoots well with a combat shotgun

It's a fair point. Charon is actually one of my personal favourites but I honestly can't remember why he was no on the list. A fair few of my FO3 guide videos actually include Charon. I will have to look and get back to you.

I once had a paladin cross with me she died quite quickly with two super mutants using a rocket launcher.

Sadly when comparing Cross to the likes of Fawkes, Sargent RL or Dogmeat, she does not stack up very well. In fact if you also have the Broken Steel DLC, cross just does not measure up at all. At higher levels she will get taken out very quickly.

All the companions can probably use a little boost to their AI behaviours for sure. I have seen companions run into gunfire, pick up a gun, run back to where they were, take cover and then fire their weapon. All the while there was some weapons on the floor right next to them.

Sadly Charon did not make the list but he is actually a solid companion. If you happen to have the Broken Steel DLC then his HP gets Glitch to the point he is almost unkillable by any enemy NPC.

Hey Rayhan, both Charon and Jericho are really cool companions. They have some of the best stats in the base game. But I selected the companions in this list because of the uniqueness they hold in some form or another in relation to the Lone Wonderer. Yes that's right. They are typically found during later stages of the game. But chances are that you will run into them at some point in which case you can swap out your current companion for others.

Yes, you do. If you don't have good karma then Fawkes will refuse to join you when asked.

Like I want to recruit Fawkes(who requires good karma) right now, and then recruit sergeant RL-3(who requires neutral karma) is that possible or will Fawkes no longer follow me?

Great question Joseph. The Karma requirement is only required when recruiting. Once you have recruited a companion and tend not to leave you. That said those who require good karma level can leave you if your karma drops to pure evil. On the other hand I had no one leave me when I switch from evil to good.

RL3 literally does not die. I’ve had that robot as my companion for the best 10 years this game has been out and he’s never died or even taken damaged. He loses one little green bar but instantly gets his health replenished.

That's pretty much on the ball, he does not die or rather is very difficult to kill. Once you install the Broken Steel DLC, his HP goes up like crazy making him even more difficult to take down.

@@nyorobuilds Ah I'm not necessarily recommending one over the other, they are both great companions and the great thing is that you can have both without any exploits or glitches. But if I could only have one then I would go with Dogmeat but that's purely because of nostalgic reasons.

Yes, once you recruit a companion you can then change your Karma and the companion will stay. Karma effect during the recruitment process only. That said some companions do actually take note of your Karma and might actually leave if you go way off like the one in Megaton.

I agree, it can be rather hard trying to maintain a balanced Karma. But there are also means of trying to keep it in balance but it's never been something I found enjoyable.

Hi Mark, many thanks for your question. In short yes. Companions in Fallout 3 are not marked as essential NPC's and as a result they can die in battle. This said, if you have the Broken Steel DLC, some companions have gained a significantly large HP boost making them very difficult to fall in battle. I hope that this answers your question. When you have a companion next to you, just make sure to keep an eye on them as when they do die, you won't even know about it. Nope, after recruiting a companion you don't need to maintain the same karma level unless they leave you and you need to recruit them again.

For RL actually neer Neutral karma. Having good or bad karma will not allow you to recruit him it has to be neutral.

Hey Gamers Theory, for my list I went with a slightly different approach. I wanted to list companions based on how useful they were or if they had something unique about them. This is sort of why I did not have companions such as Jericho or Charon as they felt a little too similar to each other in terms of what they brought to the table. But I hope that makes sense. @@TrappedInFallout totally get you Jericho is a man of few words but what I typically do I Love to get enough bad karma at the beginning of the game stealing from megaton to hire him and then spend the rest of the game being the absolute goodest guy getting Messiah of the wasteland levels of Good karma it's just funny the idea of begrudgingly him being dragged along for the ride forced to be the good guy

@@gamertheories101 Lol, that's a great way to look at it. I actually made a glitch video on my channel where you can particularly get all the companions at the same time. So just imagine all the good and bass literally walking and talking together. Oh well, it's an interesting glitch.

She actually almost did because she also has a very unique trait, to my knowledge she is the only companion who 'falls in love' with the Lone Wonderer and from that point of view she is unique. That said, yesterday I was working on my Q&A video and have answered your question. Hopefully that will make up for me missing Clover out.
