+Matthew Carlile the problem is that, for someone who has played the Witcher 3, these characters look bland and scripted bots in comparison, just reacting to linear quest design. Not referring to this case in particular, but the Fallout 4 game is riddled with storytelling and character development problems.
@the_rugged8 жыл бұрын
+Cian Byrne its not only because of the Witcher 3 comparisons though. There are some blatant problems with Bethesda's writing and quest design, that have only gotten worse with each game. This is not a consequence of the sandbox open world though, because Obsidian excelled in quest design for New Vegas, they were light years ahead of anything todd howard team has created yet, unfortunately. They need to rethink their approach... Thats my two cents about this issue.

+PTyscho As odd as it seems it's hard to compare Bethesda's fallout games to FO:NV, they're completely different in the way they were designed. New Vegas had an amazing story, and it felt like your actions were actually going to change the Mojave. NV was also god awful for exploration on a second or third playthrough. Almost every location was quest related, and those that weren't felt very empty. Fallout 3 and 4 are on the opposite side of things. The story is more than a little lacking, but there are hundreds of hours worth of exploration. If you ask me Bethesda has done a lot of good with FO4. They made using guns outside of vats not only viable but fun, this is there most successful title to date (which means more fans to fall in love with the series and maybe even play the first two), voice acting is MUCH better than before, ect. They've also ignored old issues and make some new ones. Thee main thing is Fallout is still alive and doing better than ever. None of the issues Bethesda has can't be fixed, be learned from. It also seems like they've finally found their style and are beginning to perfect it, it wouldn't suprise me if in the next Bethesda game they tackle problems like story telling and player choice (like they've done with many things this time around).

I don’t understand how people ever side with synths.. The BoS is right. They do just need to purge the land of ghouls, mutants and synths. Ghouls will become feral and kill anyone. Mutants, they’re not so bad. Original normal mutants had brains and could talk. Bethesda nonsense are just orcs that need putting down. Synths are machines. They’re robots who can be controlled and be very dangerous. They need to be shut down too. Danse isn’t a human. He doesn’t have emotions. Destroy him. Yes I know I’m saying him etc, I felt if I wrote it you’d think I was trolling. But genuinely, codsworth, Danse, they’re just robots. They don’t actually have a ‘soul’. I love Nick, but synths are dangerous.
@pinzokiyama33877 ай бұрын
@@orcbumTo me, Synths have a neutral potential to have as many faults as humans, like being evil. You’re right, though. The game does fall flat on that lesson by making them only sympathetic unless they’re Institute infiltrators. You got Synth Raider Gabriel, but the game won’t call out the Railroad for recklessly believing synths are only victims in need, allowing him to stay in power as long as he did. You got DiMA’s secret in Far Harbor, but the game makes you feel really bad about it if you make him own up to it, on top of the storyline about him and Nick reconciling.

The fact that you can convince Arthur to allow Danse to live shows that's he's not as big an ass as everyone always label him as. Fun Fact Maxson himself is actually a reference to King Arthur the ship too. Arthur was nowhere near perfect but kept the loyalty of his troops through sheer determination and purity of spirit. But most importantly he was able to see when he was wrong and always valued loyalty and honor in the highest degree. Showing your loyalty to Dance right in front of him and just how far your willing to go to stand by a friend's side. Maxson can't help but respect that and so he allows you both to live but continues to show a firm hand for the sake of the other men. My own theory is Maxson was more mad that at himself for a allowing a machine to replace one of his best men and he didn't notice it. Danse at one point was a human there are at least 4 characters in the game you interact with that have a history with him before they arrived in the commonwealth. When Dance was replaced anyone could guess. But I like to think Maxson was more upset with himself for not being able to tell the difference between his best man, a close friend no less and a machine. Remember Roger Maxson? He was angry that all the experiments that would later create the super mutants were being preformed on his commands right under his nose and dedicated a good part of his life to trying to clean up that mess. In actuality Arthur resembles his ancestor more than anyone else in his bloodline. Think on those facts for awhile. Maxson is only human just like any of us, how would you feel if a close friend was replaced right under your nose and you didn't notice until it was too late. Put aside all the anti-Maxson and Brotherhood BS for one second and really think on that one fact that Maxson..... Arthur isn't just an Elder. He's a human being with thoughts and emotions of his own. With that said, Advictorium brothers and sisters.
@MegaUgluk7 жыл бұрын
David Stoddart I'm a brotherhood boy but you must admit,he pushes his personal ideals too far, he's just too close minded when it comes to synths. I'm aware that this scene may seem like the latter but you must remember, that was one of Maxon's best and brightest soldiers, there are emotional attachments there that must be taken into account. Maxon didn't spare a synth, he spared a soldier.
@Wolfs0n7 жыл бұрын
If anyone is going the change the Brotherhood for the better its Maxon. He appears close minded because he can't afford to show any weakness to his men or let any word get out of it. The Brotherhood will not change over night he needs to ease them into a new way of life. That's how King Arthur of whom Maxson is a reference to did it. For awhile Arthur accepted the way of life for a king that his father left. But Arthur made subtle changes through out his life to the lands and before you knew it witch burning were outlawed, the Catholic church was kicked out, magic and sorcery were no longer a priority in tracking down, alchemists were no longer seen as witches. From the tidbits we've seen in the game we know Danse wasn't replaced until he arrived in Boston so Maxson had to deal with the loss of one of his best men he's only human after all. But this scene is much like the story with Arthur and Lancelot. Even though Lancelot betrayed his king and begged for punishment, Arthur forgave him instead and Lancelot left on his own as he felt he wasn't worthy of such kindness.
@Wolfs0n7 жыл бұрын
When it comes to the legends of King Arthur they are a favorite of mine and I enjoy any reference to them. Bethesda has already hinted at the possibility of having a civil war between east and west coast brotherhood in the next Fallout. If that's the case I hope enough time passes between this one and the next one to change Arthur's chapter of the brotherhood and come the civil war I will support him. Even in my head canon to Fallout 4's ending my character stayed with the Brotherhood to help Arthur Maxson change for the better. If you look and listen closely the changes are already happening. Brotherhood members talk about how its good to see life return to the commonwealth where as before they couldn't care less what happens to the wastelanders. They openly recruit those who are willing to join where as it use to be you had to be born into the brotherhood. Providing protection of settlements just for food and supplies, not like their asking for a million caps. Preservation of technology is now prioritized over hording it. Not all may see it but The Brotherhood is changing and I hope it keeps going.

The Brotherhood is the best thing for the Commonwealth yes, but I don't know if Maxon can overcome his hatred of the synth he just seems too devoted to that cause, the only one he should drop.

They can be reasoned with, they can be dissuaded and convinced that an execution isn't always necessary and that while War may never change...it isn't forever and while it's absences may be temporary, so is its presence. In this game, Mason and Brotherhood as the whole gave me some serious Enclave-y vibes. Instead of guardians and shepherds they became hoarders and conquerors. They gave me vibes of a "Steel Plague" ending from FO1. And what hit me hardest is that they arrived to this lowes

The Enclave are pretty much the nazis of this universe
@Philipp30228 ай бұрын
I honestly liked it. The traits of the BoS are isolationism, idealism and militarism - for a noble reasonable cause. But over time "securing" or "hoarding" the high tech' of the wasteland would start to corrupt the fraction from within or at very least lead to dogmatic conflicts. This kind of writing has potential for the future and more grey shades of morale the player has to face when making his decisions.
@docproc1447 ай бұрын
Honestly though, if the world were to go to shit, especially to the degree that we see in the Fallout games, the only way to properly and effectively restore order would be through an overwhelming show of military force. The wasteland isn’t a good place, there’s raiders and bandits, killer robots, and mutated creatures everywhere. The only good people you see are usually restricted to settlements and towns. They live hunkered down and cower in fear behind walls like in Diamond City. The Brotherhood is honestly the best thing for the Commonwealth. Everything they’re against and want to kill, is understandable. Synths are machines that can be reprogrammed and are ultimately untrustworthy, plus it should be obvious that any form of sentient artificial intelligence is dangerous. Super Mutants despise humanity and believe themselves to be the superior race, they want to exterminate all humans. They eat people, enough said. And the Ghouls, while some of them are more or less normal people, eventually they will all turn feral like the rest regardless. So killing them is an unfortunate but still necessary mercy. The other factions can’t get the job done. The Railroad is far too concerned with the liberation of synths, so concerned that they are willing to sacrifice human lives to preserve synthetic ones. The Institute has the necessary technology to do some real good and bring major improvements to life above ground, but they don’t. They have plainly stated that they plan to remain underground and ignore the surface world. Then they kidnap people and replace them with synths to gather intelligence and resources. And finally the Minutemen sound good on paper, and are probably the most morally stable faction there is, their goals are noble. But their focus and execution is wrong. The Minutemen aren’t here to solve the problems of life in the wasteland, they’re basically here to help people deal with the problems of life in the wasteland. They’re not a solution to the overall problem, they’re just a temporary remedy, and not a viable choice in the long run.

Danse is too dangerous, he is a good guy, a good soldier, and likely a good friend to Maxon. But he is a robot, that one day could turn on this brothers and sisters in the brotherhood because a single line of code gets activated. All his dedication, all his values, can be circumvented by programming at any given time. To make things worse, the real Paladin Danse was killed and replaced, he was one of Maxons’ best soldiers. And he was replaced by a robot that thought he was Danse… Paladin Danses’ body was likely desecrated by the institute so the BoS would never find it. Imagine that one of your friends was brutally killed, their body vaporized, then The people who killed them secretly replaced them with a robot who thought they were your friend. You can feel bad for the robot all you want but ultimately it would be insane to trust in the robot.

@@kinglyknight he was always a synth. He was never replaced. He came up on a list of missing synths. He joined the Brotherhood of his own free will. If they had the ability to do that, there wouldn't be the need for coursers or the SRB.
@kinglyknight3 жыл бұрын
@@ThesmartestTem I’ve looked into this a lot more since writing my original comment. I will concede that they left it very vague and he is likely a railroad synth with altered memories. However I believe that Danse was a synth that was replaced by the institute with artificial memories based off the real Paladin Danses’ memories and placed back into the brotherhood. He is at the perfect level for infiltration, the institute would love having a synth that close to the leader of the brotherhood. People often forget the institute is constantly replacing dozens of people with synths, kidnapping them, stealing their memories and replacing them despite many of them holding little to no influence. These synths don’t even realize they are synths or that their memories are someone else’s. In terms of the “missing” part of Paladin Danses’ file, it is the strongest evidence that he is a railroad synth, however we don’t know the actual reason he is classified as “missing” and missing doesn’t imply any infiltration protocols aren’t working. Also I will note that synths don’t age so that muddies the water pretty bad for Danse being a kid and joining the brotherhood of steel, rising to the rank of Paladin without anyone noticing.

@Kingly knight. This is 2 months late but I would like too offer a counterpoint. The infiltrators we see in game know they are infiltrators. Danse not knowing he was a synth fits more with the Railroads MO. Offer the synth new memories. So they can hide from the Institute. Plus X6-88 didn’t even know Danse was a synth. If he was an infiltrator wouldn’t X6-88 know?

@@sabergreen2010 sorry didn't see this due to the @ you used not working, the thing that debunks this is the fact that there are dozens of synths that don't know that they are synths despite being placed there by the institute, and because of the level of technology none of the synths can identify one another without visual evidence.

I think Maxson thinks Danse was replaced and is more pissed off that he lost a friend and thinks this machine took him

i think this is the best part of the brotherhood storyline, because everyone who joins the brotherhood are always trying to kill something that says its human but they have no connection to in any way, i really think the brotherhood players that let Danse live not only broke their beliefs that synths need to die, they also betrayed the brotherhood that they blindly joined. in short its easier to kill something you claim is soulless when you dont know anything about them, and its funny how when the tables turn people are so eager to suddenly change their mind.

In my main play through I shot Danse pretty much instantly and never really thought about it much afterwards, Ad Victoriam!
