I shared many of your frustrations at first, but as several other commenters have said the tile mismatch is because of the mixing of piece types. Just to lay it out concisely; each major room tab (atrium, common, the various rooms) has a set of bottom pieces, mid level pieces, and top pieces. Using only the pieces designed for a particular level you're working on reduces frustration tremendously.

Use the hallway pieces that have a window for the blue wall side of the cafe. Plus there are a lot of vault posters you can add to that blue wall. Edit: The vault posters and signs are in the vault decorations tab along with the Christmas trees, but only after finishing the quests.

I was dreading building the vault, as I'm really not creative, but your build really really helps. For the cafe though, rather than trying to make it window, door, window, from the outside I made it corner door, window, wall and it looks good. i also made the first domestic hallway leading to the elevator into a hallway w/windows, and added a window on the inside of the cafe facing the corridor. it looks really nice

I like the structure of your videos because you point out all the annoying OCD inducing details that I've missed or spent 10,000 years trying to correct in my own vault. It's nice to see other people have the same issues with this DLC but still enjoy it. Also had a bit of an "FFS moment" with how pleasing and easy it was building your elevator when mine looked like crap and took literally 5 hours to get installed.

I for one, like the paintings as wallpaper in your café, but I've liked them in your other builds too. If you want your windows though, I don't see what else you can do to be honest. Also some resturaunts where I live ( in Illinois ) have local artists's paintings hanging on their walls too. :)

I know this series is about 2-1/2 years old, but even watching it now, you answer so many questions I had about the vault pieces. Oh and just as an FYI, one of the enemy spawn points is right near the entrance to the vault. What I do with mine is space out mines at intervals from the entrance (so there's not a chain reaction) that really help whittle down the invaders. Also, I noticed in this vid you're running low on rubber. I'm running into that myself. I've got so many settlements incomplete due to having run out of materials. I go farm, build more, lather, rinse, repeat.

I understand your frustration with the prefabs. Just a suggestion, there is no corner window but there is a corner door; put a corner door that opens to a 'hostess station' or counter and put the window where the door is. That would solve the blue wall problem, but the paintings are a very clever idea. I think that would actually give you more room for tables by not having the door in the center of the room too. Another one i found frustrating was the one hallway piece that has a different floor than the rest, can't seem to figure out why.

Really loving watching someone else's training thought while building. gotta say, I was kinda skeptical about this dlc but I can honestly say now that I've put about 24 hours into building the vault of my dreams this is the first workshop dlc I'm super excited about! Keep up the good work and let vault 88 live on! PS: if you wanna have some extra ambience, I built windows facing outside the vault, then put potted green plants and those FH glowing bottles for lighting. It gave an outdoorsey look and looked a lot better than a stone wall. Feel like you'd appreciate it!

I found having a corner doorway snap to the atrium gave me my window followed by a normal corner work better. Its only one window I know but at least you get to keep the uniformity of the room you are trying to develop. I do however make one very large cafe with a smaller one off the other side (rail tunnels side) in a kind of mall. I drew a downward view map on math paper with squares by measuring from the main entrance how many units each way. I was then able to create my mall and have quarters at the very top and workshops at the very bottom along with manufacturing

If anyone is still having trouble with that 4 story elevator power up, what I did was just wire glitch all the way from that doorway on the first floor closest to the elevator and it worked. If you do it right, you can scrap and the wire isn't visible.

I share your frustrations with the vault "building blocks" it took me quite a while to make the pieces in my vault fit together. But I must say this in case you don't know; settlers don't/can't use the elevators -- for some reason -- as far as I know.

I love your determination to keep building through all the nit and grit from Bethesda. It has inspired me to continue with mine. I'm not sure about your café and hallway however. I don't like it mainly because I'm very needy and a perfectionist beyond the point of ridiculousness. I do like the painting wall however, anyway that being said I have a suggestion to both open up your design and sort out the wall: Merge the cafe into the hall by using doorways as walls without the doors. using minimalist walls you should be able to put pictures up where you need and box the kitchen in if you want to.

Yeah, Atrium Bottom sections all have yellow trim paint and yellow strips along the floor. Atrium Mids are meant for upper floors. They also ONLY allow Atrium Mid corners and won't let you add two Mid walls as corners. I enclosed the very large Nuclear Reactor (shape of a two story ball) and made its own room. That's how I found out the Atrium conundrum. I want to make a video and even help everyone else build Atriums more easily.

I was following along with the build but I did manage to fix the part with the door. There are better pieces to use and it eliminates all of the clipping that happens with the same look you were going for. It's so confusing to get the right pieces when there are so many . I fixed it by putting the Doorway Mid and the window on the corner backwards. Then a second Doorway Mid snaps back onto the backside of the first doorway then just put the floor down. Looks great.

Here’s what I did: place your two conduits and place a mid size generator connected to top conduit and then connect the two conduits then attatch a wire from the bottom conduit to elevator then you can remove the generator and stuff.

This is what I learned for powering the elevator and its pretty simple. Dont worry about putting a piece of atrium floor under the elevator as you are going to comnect the power conduit from the elevator TO THE WHITE POWER CONDUIT ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THAT SAME WALL... The atrium wall you put up to make up the shaft. Next put your VAULT POWER CONDUIT above it. (It the very last conduit in the tab). Connect the VAULT POWER CONDUIT TO THE WHITE CONDUIT. NOW... go around to the inside of the elevator and start the wire FROM THE ELEVATOR CONDUIT ans bring it around to the WHITE CONDUIT. BOOM! Easy wire glitch manipulation. Hope this helps. The atrium floor on the right of the elevator, facing said elevator, is necessary to continue your power grid. 😉👍👍🤙

I'm on the PC version and here's what I find works best for building out the atrium: for the first floor, you want to use the floors, floors wtih walls, floors with windows, floors with doorways, and the 2 type of atrium prefab walls depending on height. For the 2nd floor on the taller atrium, I find it easiest to build out the walls with ceiling pieces (which needs to be done before the floors to properly snap), then fill in the space with the "Ceiling & Floor" and "hanging floor" (later against the walls so it looks the same as the atrium multi floor parts). Just start where you used one of those taller pieces and build off that first. As for the elevator on the PC, you can't do that wire trick,but the work-around is to use the conduit wall pass through part instead, so you can pass the power through the wall. If you don't mind the different colors you can put rooms right against the elevator you just have to take off the wall pieces first (and those corners if you use them) and only thing you have that looks off is the walls between floors will have that groove between them. The downside with an elevator on a pc is if you do a doorway end cap you can't reach the button if you have to call the elevator, so I find it looks best with a short hall in front of the elevator. As for the stores, the new counter style stores clip together. I put the first aid one in the clinic, the bar one in the cafe, and I made a 2x6 store with 2 doors and a few windows facing into the atrium for the other 4 shops, and I put 2 on both sides so the merchants can get into place between the counters. I use 3 tall elevator, and have it arranged so floor 2 is the overseer's quarters, and 3rd floor the overseers office, and the security office is on the first floor with both the elevator and reactor room connected off that. I found the way I like building my quarters to keep the atrium from being over crowded is having a hallway on the outside of the atrium wall, and from that hallway the quarters. if there is a lot of traffic going to/from the quarters it'll be in the hallway not the main atrium. also as another note, the clipping problem doesn't seem to exist on the pc, at least on my setup.

I wish Bethesda had made these pieces like how sims does counters and cabinets, but with many different sub types. So you could have corner pieces, then the corner pieces would have options for windows on one or both sides, then have the color option be last as an option instead of clogging up the build menu.

It is a vault. Vault-tec specification 342-4D: "... a claustrophobic design serve to accelerate and accentuate in-group tensions. Be mindful to include several twist and turns in narrow passageways, many of which end up in dead ends. Windows should be used sparingly, in particular an approved usage of windows is to give an external view into individual quarters, as to remove any semblance of personal space. My issue is this- I can only power *part* of the security room and NONE of the overseer’s room using the white power conductors and it’s driving me nuts. Why?! What am I doing wrong? You can overlap certain pieces, so the window that doesn't come in a corner piece can be patched up with the first wall piece on the list. If that makes sense? Sorry if someone has already addressed that btw.

I made your atrium and overseer's office hallway but i made an office on both sides (one for her and one for me) and I'm planning on doing a rich vs "poor" vault. I made a wing just for my tests and put "hidden rooms" that the overseer isn't supposed to be able to go in. Still working on getting npcs to leave my area alone lol

There is a mod that allows the player to scrap things that can't normally be scrapped. I know it's too late now, but it may help you in the future. The mod is called Scrap That Settlement! I have found it to be very useful while building.

Accidentally made my atrium 9 long instead of 7 and messed up with the second elevator (no room to put it that far over, so I extended the first one to go to 4 floors. I hope I can still make it across the vault and fit it in somewhere on the 4th level. Trying to accommodate everything without completely starting over, but it's been...challenging

The thing I've noticed with vault builds is. You need to think bigger. I know its been 7 years. But a 5x4 build would be better. You can fit your windows in and not have the corner window issue. And even fit a 2nd entrance from your hall to the back end off the cafe it would be pretty much all you could fit on that one side but. Would fit well

Will the elevator work with the NPCs because there are a few vault missions where the overseer has to come down from her room and i wasn't sure if they worked together

Npcs won't take the elevator, but the Overseeer will teleport up and down for the quests. If she appears to be stuck, just leave the area for a few minutes, and she should be unstuck when you return.

No thanks, my recording is awful. Also I hate the elevator too, it looks awful with the vault and it bugs out frequently.

You only need an end cap is its not already structured into the room. Like if its door + hallway piece u dont need an end cap. If its room wall + doorway piece you dont need an end cap to attach it to this piece. If its a plain hallway piece to room doorway u do need one. Not sure if that makes sense.

When you were building the cafeteria, could you have swapped positions of the door and one of the windows to at least give you 1 window? Also, a window in the hallway maybe so the cafeteria room would have 2 windows in it. Just thinking...

I really wish the 'rooms' tab had corners with a window too! *Sigh*. I wanted my vault dweller's rooms to be 2x2 with a window to a connecting hall. Looking forward to a video where you give us a tour of the finished vault! :D If you're running out of resources, there's a workshop materials duplication glitch that works well on consoles. Under decorations, there's a separate tab for Vault decor--statues, room signs, and vault boy posters.
