Early Game Tips:
- Grab Double Meat Book early. (Sunshine Tidings co-op)
- Avoid using Molotovs at all.
- Be aware of not throwing mines down while being shot at as enemies will almost always shoot your mine killing you immediately.
- Avoid Suicider Super Mutants at all costs no matter what armor you equip.
- Be aware of enemies and avoid (Raiders) that throw Molotovs or use explosive weapons i.e.: (Grenades, Missile Launchers, Fat Man users)
- Prioritize upgrading weapons and junk that upgrades weapons over armor as weapons (Combat Rifles) are much longer lasting than any armor except Ballistic Weave armor.
- Prioritize Maxing out the Scrounger perk tree ASAP as it will allow you to supply your need for ammo easily. (Particularly Fusion Cells early game and .45/.556 late game)
- Keep Med-X on you as it is one of the only ways outside of Poisoner’s Legendary Armor prefix that you can defend yourself against poison.
- Cook all food and make all chems i.e. (Psychobuff, Psychohet, etc.) for extra food and EXP.
- Any automatic Bleeding or Explosive legendary prefix is game breakingly good so keep an eye out for those. (As well as Rapid for laser weapons in particular.) Especially Gatling Lasers.
- Also keep an eye out for Two-Shot or Instigating legendary prefixes for sniper based weapons.
- Avoid using companions.

- Radstag Meat
- Glowing Fungus
- Ballistic Fiber (For Ballistic Weave Late Game and Dense & Padded Armor ASAP to avoid death by explosions)
- Military Grade Duct Tape (Is both adhesive and ballistic fiber)
- Adhesive
- Noodle Cup (Razorgrain + Dirty Water),
- Purified Water
- Dirty Water (In Groups of 3s)
- Hunting Rifle or Laser Musket (Until you find a Combat Rifle or Overseers Guardian)
- Overseers Guardian (Sold In Vault 81) (Use almost exclusively as a sniper rifle as the Two-Shot Legendary prefix will cause immense kick, accuracy, and ammo issues when used as an automatic weapon.)

@@Jesus_in_the_Coliseum I actually commented a build similar to this at one of my subs, Captain Cook, yesterday. BLITZ! And Crit perks. Strong back wouldn’t be as useful because no ammo so low strength maybe a 4. Perception should probably be a 1 and a 2 after the Bobblehead to get Rifleman. Endurance is always nice since you’ll be up close and personal. 3 charisma for lone wanderer, intelligence probably a 7. Agility to 9 for Blitz and 9 Luck would be the most you’d want for that. So probably something like. S- 4 P- 1 E- 4 C- 3 I- 7 A- 9 L- 1 I could make a video but if you wanted heavy melee which I imagine you’re meaning like Sledgehammers and the like then you would really just want to make sure you get a Super Sledge ASAP and use science and blacksmith to upgrade it and then with Blitz you’d be the OP melee machine that you desire!

Very good video! There was one tip that I thought I should bring up, seeing as you mention desiring a Combat Rifle. Actually, it's relatively easy to get very early on, seeing as you did run down to Walden Pond. From there, it's not too much further to the south that you hit Fort Hagen; right next to the main building is the Blood Clinic. Enter the southeast door, climb the stairs & fight your way past insects to the roof; that's where you'll find a working Combat Rifle, even if you're still at the earliest levels.

There’s a guaranteed combat rifle spawn at the ambushed caravan outside of Covenant. Super easy to get to early on and barely any combat required.

Solid build! I’d maybe make a few minor tweaks, but nothing I outright disagree with. In my opinion, the 3 strongest perks for survival are Armorer, Lone Wanderer, and Chemist, so I was glad to see them all represented here. A note on Idiot Savant 3: it can be worth it, but it depends on your play style, and you need maximum intelligence to get the most benefit from it. If you have max intelligence and you get into combat a lot, idiot savant 3 can be better than 2. With high intelligence, you can’t rely on it proccing consistently. But when it does, getting guaranteed 3x XP per kill from rank 3 is way better than the 1% chance of getting 5x XP per kill from rank 2. You can try to game the system too. For example, find a cooking or chemistry station not far from enemies. Craft stuff until IS procs, then go kill the enemies while the 3x XP is active (and take berrry mentats and Jet to maximize the XP)

SuperTwonky - a question about Idiot Savant: Why? Why take something that gives you more XP? That makes the game shorter? As some point you're almost invincible, and Idiot Savant shortens the time you're NOT invincible? Yeah, I understand the temptation to race for more XP, but in FO4, and especially on Survival, I find the "game" is best experienced at a slower pace, a pace that fits the story, so your "off-story" sidequests, building, and main story quests and opponents line up, and I find that they don't when (if) you take Idiot Savant. These are genuine questions from someone with 1500 UN-modded hours in FO4 and about 3000 on top of those in modded games. Yes, I've played it a LOT! :)

@@nielsegense I don’t see how it makes the game shorter. It just means you’ll be doing the content of the game at a higher level. It depends on what your goal for the run is, too. On most of my builds, I don’t use Idiot Savant. However, sometimes it is fun to power level a character and see how high you can go. For example, I had one run where I built about 60 gunner cages and used idiot savant 3 to reach level 290 and unlocked the entire perk tree. I certainly don’t recommend that for every playthrough, but it was fun to experience using literally every perk on that single run.

Thanks for this, it was very informative to me. I am more into sniper and pistol play and not much into the pray and spray weapons. But I might try this one and see. I can see how it would be super powerful though. I am thinking about trying a build that meshes your sniper build and this build but still going deep enough into Charisma for Local Leader for the ability to do a little settlement building. Also like your sniper build I would stay away from power armor and chem's that are not used for healing. Any advice would be most appreciated, but I have learned a lot from you videos, so thanks

I’m glad to hear I’ve helped you! This build actually goes into the Rifleman tree too so you would use sniping as a secondary offense. Check out the full build in the description and you’ll see that. You could even not use some of the more optional perks and invest those into Sneak, Ninja, and Mr. Sandman. If need be you could rock 2 Luck and use those spare points in Agility instead for more of a hybrid build!

this is a pretty decent build depending on playstyle -- VATS users will always want more perception and luck, but this is nice for a more FPS experience. couple things: there's another fixed spawn of a .308 sniper rifle on top of the Red Rocket just north of College Square -- you can get there with few interactions/encounters early game (stick to the roads and turn left as soon as you pass under the highway), and if enemies spawn at the Red Rocket, there's a friendly Protectron very close by that usually engages them for you. There is also a fixed spawn of a combat rifle on top of the Greater Mass Blood Clinic just to the south of Fort Hagen -- you'll need to work out a decent path to get there early game (no easy way to describe it, go to Sunshine Tidings and then sneak south through the wasteland basically aiming for the radio relay by Fort Hagen). However, if you're pushing for a Commando build, it's definitely worth finding a path to get it, otherwise it could be a while before you start seeing combat rifles spawn elsewhere.

I know about that one. The big issue is that a deathclaw that can be legendary spawns there often. The sniper I suggest is guarded by the weakest raiders in the entire game

There is a free combat rifle and you can get it right out of the vault. Aquaboy is needed though. I will get back with you on the exact location, but I recall it's close a park that has mulberry trees and it sits on the water that leads out to the ocean. Love the vid by the way!! Best Sniper rifle for both Ballistic and Energy is located in a unmarked location near Skylines flight 1981 south east off tenpines bluff, it's a gunner outpost in a destroyed bridge. Keep in mind that in order to get the rifles you have to fight a Machine gun turret 2 normal gunners and a Gunner boss up the second level of the bridge. The gunner boss holds a almost fully upgraded lvl 1 gun nut Hunting rifle. And there's also a Laser sniper rifle in the Gunner's boss cabin near his bed which is also a scope laser sniper rifle. It's a bit difficult to get but worth it especially if your an energy sniper rifle build that don't want to settle for laser musket and also don't have enough materials or the right perk to have a scope laser rifle

We're very different. I'd get chemist way earlier on survival if I ran 7 INT builds because infections can ruin you. But I can't because I have 1 INT and strip mods off weapons rather than spending on Gun Nut and Science.

What’s your opinion on the best faction in the end though? I honestly think the Institute is way better than people think. The fast travel straight to the perfect middle of the map as well as to your faction and with Hangman’s Alley right next to it too for a settlement offers in survival an instant get out of jail card if your struggling on water, sleep, etc. Obviously the vertibirds are best for traveling long distances but they can be buggy and get you killed sometimes too. But frankly…synth relay grenades…they are by the far the best weapon given to you of any faction. People underestimate them because it’s only weak synths and they don’t follow you but dude…if you got the charisma and for buying and resource grinding down…you can easily buy HUNDREDS of them and literally (especially when combined with jet in combat) create an instant army around you that yes will destroy everything I’ve seen lol. The trick is not to keep lobbing them at strong enemies that easily kill them instantly one at a time. No you step back and start accumulating them then they’ll easily kill everything because their damage is still good enough. Also that’s why jet is key beveuse if you can’t do that you can summon 10 around a hard opponent before they have time to destroy any when you use jet. Frankly I think the synth relay grenades alone makes the institute so hard to pass up. BOS is easily the best early game but I just hate you can’t summon patrols to you…otherwise I’d probably say that combined with the vertibirds and frankly better traders too than the Railroad offers (railroad I think is only the best if you’re a pure stealth build and like being invisible due to their stealth boy selling) the best endgame. But man those synth relay grenades are so much fun if you know how to use then lol. You know how hard killing everyone in Nuka World on your own in Survival can be? NOT if you ensure you just got 10 jets and 100 synth grenades lol. I’ve killed every raider there just doing that and following my robot army lol

I honestly start with MAX endurance and intelligence then I focus on maxing charisma early too. Imo, the 3 strongest features in the game by FAR for either surviving any kind of fight is Power Armor, Jet (only drug needed), and VATS. But VATS is the strongest but it takes a huge investment to make it crazy so I find it best ignoring it actually. I’ll use it still to freeze time, do something or find mines and enemies but that’s it early game. No by far all you really need is figuring out how to maintain your power armor, drugs, and survival debuffs at all time. Charisma yes is great because settlement building by far easily addresses all your survival and saving problems while you just slowly branch out from sanctuary. What I did was focus on settlement building and looting. I still want charisma maxed for trading for fusion cores and ammo much easier too plus you get more settlers for every point in it. Maxing endurance is obvious to already become a super tank combined with power armor you get early. Then I start with intelligence maxed to level up insanely fast as well and also instantly start investing most perks into crafting. I put only a few points into strength later on just to obtain the armorer crafting perks and melee. Since I only use power armor strength doesn’t have to be maxed to still become king in melee too. Once my settlements expand far enough to reach Hangman’s Alley, I do the main quest up until unlocking the BoS vertibirds to answer no fast traveling then use them ti still build a good settlement and supply lines at each corner of the map so no matter where I am I always have instant access to food, water, saves, doctors, and crafting/repairing my armor. Easy as pie! I get though your desire to not make it too easy lol. Imo, though, if I wanted the experience you want I’d just go with fallout frost mod because survival mode by itself isn’t enough clearly for that sort of absolute hardcore surviving game. Honestly trading and settlement building is what makes it the easiest in my opinion not even jet and power armor. Sheet civilization around you makes the surviving mechanics added easy to address. So I think a true hardcore mode would be denying yourself VATS use, power armor, and jet (other drugs fine I think) sure…but the true meat? Denying all trading and settlement building. You don’t do any quests at all and truly just go out and survive on the road lol. But that’s what frost mod is for lol

Molotovs are like nukes beginning of survival and can be a bit lethal a few hours in to the game but won't be an instant kill. Grenades are truly what you have to look out for

This is a good build. Personally I just use rifleman instead of commando. More dmg per round and I can shoot very fast on mouse with semi automatic rifles. I also value sneak much more, solely for the mine and trip wire immunity.

I've found that stealth melee is pretty much unstoppable in survival.

here's how I surpass the survival: S1 P7 E1 C2 I1 A7 L9 (VATS build) - The book in the sanctuary goes to charisma. - You're basically a glass cannon in survival, there's no point in investing in endurance. Especially when the parks aren't that great. Instead, go stealth. - Investing in strength boosts melee weapons and carry weight capacity. going melee in survival is a suicide IMO. Stay away. - Perception boosts VATS chances. You need this. - Charisma doesn't make or break the game. get enough so you could have the lone wanderer perk. - who needs intelligence when you can have the "idiot savant". Guns can be improved by finding the mods in the game. No need for it. - Agility affects the action points needed for VATS. Besides, the Ninja is a must-have perk. - Luck's perks have an almost perfect synergy for VATS. TL;DR Go stealth and do VATS

That is more my playstyle. Sneak up, shoot a shot or 2, retreat and hide until they give up the chase, sneak in and shoot again, rinse and repeat. Doesn't make for good videos but I don't get killed as often as many folks.

Another long comment. It didn't start this way. Apologies. I get that people like approaching Fallout 4 strictly as a FPS. That being said, VATS cannot be a game-breaking mechanic given it has always been part of Fallout since, oh...about 1997. Immersion or pace-breaking, sure. That's like ordering a BLT without tomato. Its presence is part of what makes the sandwich what it is. I'm close to 50, so I don't have the reflexes I did at 25. Not sure I could reliably play Fallout4 in a Call of Duty manner. Don't worry. I'm not the sort for whom a different opinion equals a dislike on a video. How petty is that? I love it when people play a game differently than I do. The Walden Pond hunting rifle is basic, but there is also a spawn of a hardened, sniper rifle on the rooftop of the Red Rocket in Cambridge, south of Corvega & north of College Square/Cambridge Police Station. Go at low level & the only random encounter which pops up at the fuel station will be basic ghouls, dogs, or raiders. Another guaranteed spawn is at the overpass just east of Tenpines Bluff. That involves fighting Gunners, though. I prioritize Gun Nut 1 early on not so much for weapon mods as for the heavy machine gun turrets for settlements. They're stronger & easier to build with & place along existing objects. As long as you never go into the mole rat den under the Red Rocket outside Sanctuary, the junk outside the den will respawn every game day. You always get a gas canister & a used oil canister, as well as an adjustable wrench for gears, & enough metal to scrap & make turrets. Saving up the tools in a container so they can later be carted to Vault 81 and sold can help in getting Overseer's Guardian quickly. If Trashcan Carla will sell me a screwdriver for one cap & I can give it to Calvin later for 15 caps, that's a win. Just pile all the tools you can on a settler & send them to Hangman's Alley so you can stockpile tools there to be carried to Vault 81. Avoiding that mole rat den will also cause the nearby house with a Quantum & a Nuka Cola, (as well as the box of chems & the locked safe) to respawn every day. The steamer trunk on the ground by the water tower on the way to Abernathy Farm also respawns every day with this trick. Sooner or later you get some decent armor & weapon mod drops; stronger you, stronger settlers. This more than makes up for the minor amount of loot, even the fusion core, you find inside the den.

I noticed that Gun Nut 1 problem and considered a possible error was when he took armorer 1 that he meant Gun Nut 1. Especially from what all he said about avoiding Armorer perks.@@Steve00036

@@TheBoxOfCereal I was thinking about doing a melee weapons survival build and I don’t know if you’ve ever done that but what advice could you give? I know I would need a crap ton of critical hit perks and just about everything in sneak perks.

@@famousgigachadgeorgewashin9094 BLITZ! And Crit perks. Strong back wouldn’t be as useful because no ammo so low strength maybe a 3. Perfection w should probably be a 1. Endurance is always nice since you’ll be up close and personal. 3 charisma for lone wanderer, intelligence probably a 7. Agility to 9 for Blitz and 9 Luck would be the most you’d want for that. So probably something like. S- 3 P- 1 E- 3 C- 3 I- 7 A- 9 L- 2 (Special book to 3) I’d just keep boosting up endurance and luck to get where you aren’t so frail and then luck up so you can crit through everything!

Well these guys are being nice but this isn't a great video. So many times you're just saying "uh" after every sentence, going on about stuff.
