Oof - Alright some notes - This was another long one! New Vegas did feature another "Alien reference", in the form of a small UFO camp with a few aliens we could encounter. However, it was locked behind the "Wild Wasteland" perk and pretty clearly just for giggles, furthermore even if it wasn't, it wouldn't have changed anything in the video. So I cut that. "Zeta Rays" - Are obviously an Alien technology that posses some capacity for calming individuals and improving one's mental state. Notably, Jack Cabot offers the Sole Survivor a Zeta weapon to use against Lorenzo in the Cabot House quest-line and it very likely boasts similar origins. June 25th, 2020 is Mr. House's birthday.

@@RE4PER Still, it's not the only thing he missed with this video. Bethesda obviously drew a lot of inspiration from Scientology. The inventor of Hubology was apparently named Richard Hubbell, which is not too far from L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. Also, the central theme of Zeta is most likely inspired by Theta, another greek letter. The Thetan is supposed to be the spirit of every human, going through several cycles of rebirth like in Hinduism. And just like Hubology, in Scientology you're forced to pay humongous sums of money to advance levels to be "further enlightened", and I suspect the founder to have originally conceived this as a scam, but since he's long gone there's probably nobody left inside the loop who actually knows the truth, just as it is with Richard Hubbell. @@gaolbreak1090 Bethesda is poking fun at Scientology NOW, when *everyone* is. It's not remotely as "risky" for them as it was for Interplay/Black Isle. You should look up the history of Scientology. Back in 1998 we didn't know anywhere near as much about them as we do now, they were much more of a mystery and powerful in Hollywood. Hell it was seven years before South Park even made fun of them and put them more on everyone's radar. 1998 was MUCH closer to Operation Snow White, when Scientology infiltrated the US government's most powerful institutions to purge records of their own work. You're nuts if you think Bethesda somehow "risked more". Scientology has been the butt of tons of jokes since the early 2000s, and they've hemorrhaged membership ever since that South Park episode. I actually really like this theory, it fits incredibly well with the whole theme of the Zetans being the most stereotypical and cliche 1950s aliens possible, with a weakness similar to War of the Worlds. However, I think the community is failing to take into account one (possibly) related questline. Lorenzo Cabot and the artifact helmet he brought back from a lost desert city, which made him immortal and not only gave him psychic powers, but was said to not be crafted by human hands. He also went out of his way to hide the location of the ancient ruins he found, and stated that it was neither a temple nor a tomb, but didn't elaborate further. All of this used as context makes me think the Zetans were never trying to invade the Earth, so much as looking for something they had lost a long time ago.

Rene certainly is a really good actor, his voice just seems to ooze authority, and confidence, and this was proof that with strong dialogue, an equally strong voice can be very entertaining, it was so strange to see him as Clayton on Benson, then Oddo on Deepsace 9, but he pulled off both seemingly effortlessly narf, narf, that tickled my funny bone every time.

There is a comic book in FO4 called "Attack of the Zetans" or something like that, which suggests pop culture was atleast aware of them. Could have just selected a generic alien name, but quite a coincidence to get it right.
@MegaZeta2 жыл бұрын
It’s more that much of Fallout’s setting and story is a parodic presentation of a world where Atomic Age fiction is somehow both (1) true and (2) a pop culture phenomenon as in our world.
@milliondollarmistake2 жыл бұрын
For an in-universe explanation it could be that the Zetans are like the Illuminati. Like everyone knows of them but nobody except a few crazies believed they exist.
@Alizudo Жыл бұрын
It's also possible that people are simply referring to the aliens as Zetans because that's what aliens had been called in pop-culture already. Upon finding real ones, people have just resorted to calling them by the pre-established term. Like if we were to find real aliens today and started calling them Xenomorphs, simply because it's a term people are familiar with.

I have a new Theory that The Wild Wasteland perk is really just letting your character absorb all the visions and see the past and future like the kid that sits at the 188 in New Vegas. It would be insanely cool if you got the Psychic Nullifier from the kid and it stopped the Wild Wasteland visions
