Man. When you first enter the Institute, that shows why Fallout 4 is such a great game. The whole game, they build up the Institute as something horrible and sinister, an evil bogeyman behind the shadows. The whole game, I was rooting for the Brotherhood of Steel. I was expecting some horrible group of Doctor Mengeles to wait me inside. When you finally get there, I expected to go in guns blazing... but the plot twist with Father, and the fact that most of the scientists inside are nice, normal people doing good work, caught me off guard. Long story short, I ended up siding with them. I'm sad I had to betray the Brotherhood, but then again, I got Maxson's sweet battlecoat out of the deal. Everyone's happy.

+George Washington I know what you meant, but I don't agree with the "nice, normal people doing good work" bit. I liken them to the Borg; studies and research to achieve near perfection at any cost. All scientific and research ethics are tossed out the window. If you read the one terminal right by the Gorilla lab, the Institute was doing experiments on the soil of Warwick homestead (and the results on the residents) without their consent, and were to kill the residents once results were acquired. Not to mention, their experiments resulted in the creation of the super mutants. I, too, liked the betterment of society into the future bit that they presented, but I didn't choose them for the above reasons. Once you looked past the shiny exterior, you saw that they had an ugly side. Had they shown some semblance of ethics in their attempted betterment, I would have chose them.

Truly, this theme embodies something deep... The Institute is the future for Humanity, and one of the world's bastions of scientific perfection. Clean water, clean resource, and so advanced... The institute's aims are truly for humanity's restoration. But with such advances needs sacrifices. and such sacrifices can deface the value of said progress for those who are.. not ready to accept them. The one thing the Institute lacks is... empathy for the ones who live day by day on the surface world. Such empathy is lacking with the institute. Kidnapping people and making Synthetic replicas of them. Testing them and killing those who dare get a lead on their location. They do not tolerate insurrection, and will protect their progress at all costs. Even as far as ignoring humanity's values. Perhaps the Institute is the future for humanity... but must we lose our humanity to preserve it?

Definitely my favorite tracks from the OST. It's perfect for the Institute. It feels futuristic and benign but also oddly cold, sterile and slightly ominous, kinda like the general feel you get walking around the place. It also feels very melancholic and almost mournful, which is appropriate given the big twist involved with the Institute (especially if you decide to play double-agent against Father). Fallout 4 may have had it shortcomings when it came to main quest, but the soundtrack did a FANTASTIC job of getting me emotionally invested in the story at the right moments. Hats off to Inon Zur.

The institute to me is the brightest future the commonwealth will ever get as it will form a society based upon reason, something our society lacks today. The people inside the institute are not blinded by the irrational thoughts of duty like the others in the commonwealth are, and with their advanced research into biology, perhaps they can start repairing the genes of the irradiated citizens of the commonwealth. It's a sort of intellectual society I dream of living in.

This music, along with the whole idea behind the Institute and their synths literally freaked me out, when I entered the Insitute for the first time, and I just wanted to get the fuck out there as fast as I could... I started thinking stuff like "what if these Synths decided that humans are no longer needed, and decided to hunt them down?" I dunno, man... the thought of the human race being replaced by machines made me feel fear and despair! I think this has one of the most immersive moments in any Fallout game, and I honestly felt like I was inside the game at this moment.

I've figured out a solution that could fix the Institute, instead of having the BoS & Railroad factions we instead have to choose between the divisions Bioscience & SRB. The former wanting to send aid to the Wastelanders and the latter who wants to remain reclusive and Authoritative. As player we step in to help whichever one we want to see succeed in their goals and then the conclusion happens when the NCR arrives to expand its territory East, which Division we helped would determine how the Wastelanders respond to the NCR. If we didn't give them aid as the SRB they'd join the NCR but if we did give them aid as Bioscience they'd push back against the expansion.

And after destruction of institute Railroad will more likely fall apart, because they don't have any left reason to exist after their goal was seccided. Minutemans is pretty much destroyed and doesn't really have any chance to recover and return as major power in commonwealth. Raidars and supermutats isn't a future, obviously, and will never become one. Diamond City just stuck in stagnation and it will take decades to change it, and there no promises that they will take control over the commonwealth, because they don't really want it. Also... institute technologies could be very dangerous if it would be use for something that they were not designed for and etc.

@@darnit1944 I realize I'm a year late, but I wanted to point out that if you paid attention to Father, the Institute is open to expanding into the surface. In the beginning speech he gives, he literally says something along the lines of "maybe one day we'll be able to show [the surface dwellers] what we've accomplished, but FOR NOW we must remain underground." Not only this, but also, they've previously tried to cooperate with the above ground, but it only ended in tremendous conflict and bickering. With an institute-minuteman alliance, this may be able to be avoided and the institute could possibly rebuild society, and improve everyone's lives through their technology. With all that said, that's why I always choose their ending. Even in their ending, they make moves into the surface, with the checkpoints they hold and the announcement of their presence in Diamond City. I believe the epilogue of the game serves as the beginning of the institute's rebuilding of society on the surface, and assuming it's canon for the sole survivor to be general of the minutemen, likely their collaboration with the minutemen in making the commonwealth safer.

(Spoiler warning!) Ugh... This song always upsets me... I strongly support the Minutemen, the most of all factions! I feel like they achieve the most good (Helping the people of the Commonwealth and giving them a safe new place to live!) whilst being the most neutral to all factions! (They're ONLY hostile to the Institute, unless the player is hostile to additional factions!) Along that, I agree with one of the Institute scientists (Dr. Li, I believe it were?) who said they have the potential to improve so many innocent lives, whilst they all die up there, while the Institute is safe, underground! And all they're choosing to do is make synthetic animals/people? How does that help people? So, I made my decision... I destroyed the Institute! (Don't worry! I DID activate the evacuation protocol!) But, whilst talking with Father, as SOON as the piano kicked in at 0:59 of this video... "What have I done? :'( "

@Arwingpilot8 жыл бұрын
+Mighty Roogna Believe me, it was not an easy decision! :( If it were up to me, every faction would truce and all of the good that each faction gives would come together as a grand alliance, for the people of the Commonwealth! Also, that's not to say I didn't take Synth Shaun, with me, after the battle, so I DO care about family! :) I simply don't think making Synths are what benefit people's lives, compared to Minutemen services! (As we've seen, some synths even become raiders!) As I said, there's parts of every faction I like! But, I could only choose 1! :( If this were real life, I WOULD have all factions come together, as an alliance! (Have Institute/Brotherhood scientists working together, give synths freedom, the OPTION to work, to please the Railroad and the Minutemen and Brotherhood's military for protecting people! Everybody wins!) Here's an example of what I mean by putting everyone else ahead of myself... Infamous 1... Save Trish, Cole's girlfriend or save 5 random civilians... As much as I despise hurting women, you bet I rescued the civilians! I felt like losing Trish was the lesser of two evils! It's the same principle of destroying the Institute... I didn't want to! (Hence why the song upsets me!) But, for what my opinion of a better future for people is, I chose the Minutemen! My apologies, for the long message! It's all very complicated, in my head! But please understand that I didn't want to have to make such a difficult decision!

Arwingpilot I dont trust the brotherhood ever since I've seen the Prydwin. A group of people having that much power and fire power are usually the people you cannot bargain with and it shows with how they are willing to throw force at anything they perceive as a threat to them or they think are 'evil'. They are pretty much cave man tier ignorant with the institute and do not see the scientists and people living in CIT as people but as evil stereotypical brainheads who wants to destroy the world. The brotherhood is a joke to me if you ask and I am glad I've blown their ship and used the very weapon they are so casual on using to bully others against their ass. Railroad? They pretty much put more importance to manufactured people than to real people, whats worse is that they are kidnapping my son and daughters and leading them astray... evidenced with the Libertaria raider leader whom the Railroad let free to the wasteland. Shaun is right that the Railroads ideology is insane and that their priorities is skewed. I have no choice but to wipe them out. As for the Minutemen, they are the most honest faction if you ask me. Normal people who just want to live normally and honestly, everyone is welcome in the minutemen and in their farms(as evidenced by some newcomers wearing raider outfits and military gear) even ghouls. I see no fault with the Minutemen so they are welcome in my books. As for the Institute.... well their leader is my son... what more reason do I need not to side with them. After all those time I've lost him, I found him at last. :)

+Mighty Roogna Ugh... I know the Brotherhood are not pleasant, in this game! (The whole way they're portrayed: The Prydwen, their hatred of people like synths, etc, the fact that ALL technology must be "confiscated"... Makes me think of Nazis in a Wolfenstein game! But... A big part of me still wants to like them, because of Elder Lyons! In FACT, Danse points out that the Minutemen makes him think about the time Lyons was in charge! I agree, which is why the Minutemen get my full support! I know the Brotherhood are evil in this game! But... many members like Danse were members, when Lyons was in charge! Some of them may have families and feel like they're doing the right thing, for the world, because of their time with Lyons? What if another Elder replaces Maxson and their attitudes become like Lyons' again? I even convinced Maxson to let Danse live, after finding out he's a Synth! That is why I stayed neutral to them! Plus, some members like Haylen disapprove of how violent they are! Again, why I can't bring myself to destroy them ALL! Destroying the Institute, I only shot at Synths hostile to me! All people/synths not firing on me or my Minutemen were spared! So, the good of the Institute CAN be revived! :) I played it with as little trouble as possible!

You do know that you can have The Minutemen and The Institute ally with one another, right? During the Institute questline, that moment when you are jumped by some Minutemen after tracking down some random runaway has a speech option that, if passed, will result in a Institute-Minutemen alliance, effectively getting the best of both worlds. However, from what i understand, you have to make the Minutemen sufficiently powerful enough for this option to appear (i think you have to complete Old Guns for this option to appear? Idk).

The Institute - misguided genius. The Brotherhood - misguided zeal. Both equally dangerous, both equally full of endless potential.

What can I say? I totally agree. I don't advocate synth genocide, but production needs to stop immediately.

With the SS as director of the institute and pushing the institute in a better way and use the technology resources they have to rebuild society and build up the settlements to a strong healthy place to live and sustain itself quite well and with institute aesthetic cyberpunk architecture too , the wasteland could be terraformed into the living neo civilization it can be and bring stability and growth to the Commonwealth and build a space program to explore the solar system and so forth lol
