and the fact that it isn't really the same person coming through. Chances are, the science Nazis use quantum physics to teleport, which means the object to be teleported is ripped apart at the molecular level and re-assembled using said quantum computers. The mind of the original person going through the teleporter is destroyed, that person dies. The sole survivor even makes a bit of a joke about the whole 'being ripped apart at the molecular level and hopefully not being reassembled inside a rock" possibility. The real Sole Survivor is dead, the guy/gal you play as after that mission is a copy with the same ideas and beliefs as the original.

No the minutemen wouldn't have been killed. Preston would've survived, and roamed the Commonwealth in an endless quest to find a non-existing sole survivor to help all of these settlements. Not even all of the deathclaws in America combined would stop him from giving these quests. Not even rift through spacee and time, as he is gifted of the ability to teleport any distances in the blink of an eye for the sole purpose of interrupting the survivor during a fight to the death with a horde of raiders. You think he is scared of the institute? They could fire an endless barrage of laser on him, even if they take his leg, he will always find the strength to crawl to the big man himself, grenades exploding around him, bleeding from everywhere that there are blood vessels, but still, with a crackly voice, utter the words: "I know you are busy general, but another settlement needs your help."

Really good video. My only thought, they don't even need to teleport synths over the base to blow it up. There are so many options the Institute could enact with their knowledge base it boggles the mind. They have access to tons of pre-war schematics and technologies as is but add in the fact it's literally a collection of the brightest minds in the region and they could invent or repurpose just about anything they'd want to. Things they could do that they oddly didn't: 1. Make a swarm of synth birds packed with explosives. - This seems like the most obvious plan. They already make use of programmable synth birds for spying. Just load em up with explosives, teleport them nearby, and have the swarm the Prydwen at like 3 in the morning. 2. Make a more powerful version of a Gauss Rifle, give it to an upgraded Gen 2 synth that can handle the increased weight, and snipe the Prydwen out of the sky. 3. Rebuild/repurpose some pre-war missiles. Not rockets for a rocket launcher but full scale missiles and shoot them at the Prydwen. 4. Teleport a bundle of Mini-Nukes or a small tactical nuclear weapon over the Prydwen and let it fall on it. 5. Make a really high-powered laser weapon, give it to an upgraded Gen 2 synth, and snipe the Prydwen out of the sky. 6. Secretly build a bunch of revolutionary war era artillery guns and enact a coordinated shelling on the Prydwen. I mean the mind boggles at how easy it would be.

@countrybluegrass7 жыл бұрын
Except the Empire in Star Wars has a goal of galactic domination by a single supreme ruler, the Institute's only goal in Fallout 4 is to make more synths and to make those synths increasingly superior to humans in every possible way. @rwberger67 жыл бұрын
The institute's goal isn't to replace literally everyone with synths or see Synths as the new humanity. What has happened is that the institute has given up on the surface world's humanity after being burned in the past when one of their early synths went nuts and everyone turned on them. They view the surface people as being no longer really humans or at least not important anymore. The institute see THEMSELVES as the real humanity, they even say themselves that they are mankind's greatest hope. When they say that, they aren't talking about the people on the surface or sharing technology or aid with them, they mean mankind as a whole. THEY are the future of mankind, the surface people are irrelevant. The synths are their tools, nothing more (Yet). They have plans for them in the future though, as the current synth program evolved out of the institute researching how to create artificial organs and body parts superior to a regular humans (The FEV experiments they were doing were part of this as well, but it turned out to be a dead end and then Virgil trashed the Lab). Basically, the institute is looking to turn themselves into better, stronger humans that can truly inherit the world with their advanced technology on top of it, within the game they are just currently limited by the size and power demands of their home, which is why they're trying to get the new reactor up and running. The reason they send spies to and manipulate the surface people is to weed out any potential threats and keep them weak so that they don't become a threat. They're still paranoid over the dangers of the surface world and from being burned so badly last time they made a real venture onto the surface.

I'm surprised you didn't specifically bring up that just one courser is a walking one man army, demonstrated to be capable of the same level of demi-godhood in combat as the Sole Survivor (if not moreso, depending on your difficulty) when taking down the gunners. If coursers weren't solely based around apprehending rogue synths and actually killed with intention, the Brotherhood wouldn't stand much of a chance. If one courser can go on a genocidal rampage just to reclaim a synth, imagine what 5 coursers + Kellogg tasked specifically to the destruction of the Brotherhood could accomplish when unleashed on the airport. All factions but the Institute depend on the Chad Sole Survivor to accomplish anything meaningful.
@bookwyrm39943 жыл бұрын
The Brotherhood doesn't need the Sole Survivor though. They send him on a mission to attack Fort Strong, which any knight team can do. They send you to fix Liberty Prime which amounts to doing the equivalent of a few grocery runs. They even devise a way to get into the Institute without your feedback.
@matthewjonas89523 жыл бұрын
@@bookwyrm3994 It's been a while since I've seen this video, but looking back on my comment with clear eyes I see a flaw in my underlying argument. I'm essentially saying that the Institute is more powerful than the others because of what they're demonstrated to be capable of from a purely scripted perspective, but I then fail to offer the same treatment to the other factions. The purely scripted courser massacre of the Gunners is meant to show a courser's abilities from a lore perspective, so it is only fair that the other factions must be judged by their capabilities from a lore perspective. In that light, BoS is the only faction that really stands a chance, as, again, from a lore perspective it is still the case that the other factions are dependent on the sole survivor (Minutemen would have died with Garvey without SS's intervention and no one in the RR is capable of taking down a courser). Looking at it more fairly, I think it is safe to say BoS could hold their own, but I'm unsure as to who would win out in the end. Coursers are badass, but they're rare and not specifically manufactured. They could be devastating if pointed in the right direction, but there'd be heavy reliance on Gen 1 and 2 synths for any large direct confrontation. SS removed from the picture, the tide turner would probably be the beryllium agitator. If the Institute could somehow manage to retrieve it, the increase in synth production or weapon strength might enable them to best BoS. Without it, they'd probably need to play things a little more guerrilla.

Danse is a synth. As is Glory. Institute has inside agents in the Brotherhood and Railroad. That alone leads to their victory over those two factions. If you were to include Minutemen, Sturges is a synth... so again, infiltration acheived.

I'm not sure I buy this. First of all both the BoS and Institute wait on certain objectives because they want to get the Sole Survivor to do them as they are their most valuable asset. Also before getting the powerup to their generator the people of the institute make it very clear that they have to be very conservative with their power usage, so saying they could just "lol teleport" to victory isn't really doing it justice. Next they talk about phasing out the older gen 1 & 2 synths when you first get there meaning they probably don't have that many around to use as cannon fodder anymore. This would mean they are left with Gen 3s alot of which have free will and reject the institute which could result in information getting to the other factions and things not going to the institutes plans. The real advantages I see here would be Kellogg and the Coursers both of which I can see being defeated by the BoS and their massive firepower compared to what they are used to dealing with.
@dodolicht40277 жыл бұрын
1. Stop talking about the SS, in this situation he either didn't wake up in the vault or he died on his way to diamond city. 2. A courser which in lore is considered to be very very powerful could solve the power issue. don't know how the place is called where u need to go to help them with the power, they can just send a courser. 3.After a courser or Kellogg solve their power issues. as I already stated, they could do just that, teleport to victory. 4.The escaped synths wouldn't tell any other faction about information about the Institute beacuse A) Most of them don't know useful information B) They don't care about the information, they just want to escape out of the commonwealth. Now this is just my opinion and plz don't take your time writing an essay to respond to me beacuse i won't read it and i generally don't care, also the other reason why i hate the Fallout 4 BoS is beacuse they are basically nazis, they want to destroy the synths which are actually a race, so you probably see the connections beacuse you actually have some nice points and i hope you won't get angry at me, I just wanted to share my opinion.

The minutemen would be the first to die because there are barely any of them. They would die early on possibly by the raiders in concord. Then the brotherhood or institute would track the railroad down and kill them because they do not have advances like the other two. Then the factions would try to do their research possibly with the institute getting on the inside of the brotherhood. Then they could secretly wipe out the brotherhood with them clueless about it. The brotherhood has no idea about the institutes whereabouts but the institute can find the brotherhood easily which will lead to the institutes victory.

No, institute planting a mole in the ranks of brotherhood of steel won't work. As stated by Danse, recruits or would be recruits must be vouched by someone already in the ranks of the BOS in order for the institute to do that a synth must be able to bond with a BOS soldier and then gain his trust which I don't believe is possible at all due to the lack of emotions and affections a synth can give due to its violent nature assuming its sole purpose is to wipe out an entire faction. What I'm saying is that the BOS would have a chance toe to toe with the Institute, why? Due to its technological advancement, they are continually expanding their arsenal, tactics, resources and technologies through the use of research and data gathering and would have eventually come across a courser which will be their way in!

If they didn't have heaps of power and had to be careful with it, it would make the most sense to use the energy that they did have to get to the beryllium agitator. Like instead of using it for other things, they could still just teleport a squad to the mass fusion building (like not right into the radiation) WAY before the Brotherhood of Steel showed up. Then they'd have heaps of power and everything else they want to do can be done :)
@CommandoNarco127 жыл бұрын
So that's a single scenario. But why is it more likely than seizing the Mass Fusion building at the same time as BoS? That move was made in response to the Brotherhood threat...and the BoS had already identified the building as a strategic resource. I think you're underestimating the agency both of the BoS and Institute leadership, as well as the types of operations conducted by each faction. The Institution definitely has a technological and home-field advantage. But that doesn't mean their victory is "99 percent" probable. Intellectuals of the type seen in the Institute operate extremely differently than military officers and strategists. I think your explanation illustrates well *how* the Institute could win, but not necessarily the most likely outcome. I'm not confident enough to get on board with your conclusion. (Still a great video though! Very thought-provoking!)

I have to agree with Spectre7 on this. The Institute has had decades, at least, before the Sole Survivor wakes up to gain possession of everything they need for the power basically un-opposed; but they haven't! Other than questionable writting, ;) the only reason why they haven't is questionable leadership. :p This is actually implied by the state of much of the utility and other rundown sections of their base. This also rather heavily implies that the Institute's resources, while *perhaps* self-sustaining at their current population and usage, are (in the lore) far from unlimited! In contrast, the community of Vault 81 has maintained nearly all of their underground high-tech compound for a similar length if time with only a modest amount of trade with the outside. Have you ever stopped to think why the Institute has Gen 1 Syths mopping and sweeping floors, when there have been generations of smart and genius level people and not one has thought of the Fallout Universe equivalent of a Roomba? :p All this points to the lack of pragmatic and practical thinking, and words to that effect are explicitly stated by Father as why he wants the Sole Survivor to become Director of the Institute! In a way, they have the same sort of flawed, impractical thinking that indirectly lead to the Resource Wars and eventually the Great War.

Some disagreement here. Yep, the Institute has the tech edge and, basically, a Synth army to further its goals. O the other hand... Its relationship with Outside is basically parasitic - the Institute takes what it wants and gives very little, if any, return on that. Being a parasite is great , but only as long as your host is more or less OK. If something bad (or worse) happens to your host, then you are gonna get it as well. The Institute has a bunch of MAJOR blindspots.: * There is its absolute certainty that Synths in general are not and cannot become self-aware. We have ample evidence to the contrary. * They have great confidence in their security, but a teenager is hacking their system to help supposedly unintelligent Synths to escap. there3 is at least one access into their base through the lower levels, and the parent of their Acting Director is, despite SUPPOSEDLY being under SRB surveillance, able to get up to all kinds of undetected shenanigans inside the Institute. If anything the Institute seems to be the embodiment of the old line, "the Smarter You Are, The Dumber You Are..."

Year old comment but oh well. I'ma reply anyways. They really had..no need for the sole survivor to power up their reactor. All they needed was the agitator. Which. They could of easily replaced you with Kellogg. Since if you weren't around, he'd still be kicking about. So, no. You weren't needed at all to get the agitator to fix their power problems. Kellogg would of took a team and Allie to Mass Fusion and got it. Now one might say. "Well. How could Kellogg fight so many power armor BoS knights?" The same can be same for yourself. Especially if you're Nora and not Nate. You're not even a soldier then. Nate at least had experience in combat. Also. Kellogg is cybernetically enhanced. Not to mention he could likely bring several coursers with him. Which are basically terminators in how tough and dangerous they are in lore, at least. And that's assuming they didn't decide to get the agitator before the brotherhood even shows up.

Great Video, you make a lot of interesting points. I believe that the Institute advantage is smaller than you think. For one, in the game if Desdemona directs you to the Minute Men, she will explain that they are the only people with the firepower capable of defeating the Institute. Indeed, if you look at what the Institute is doing to the Commonwealth you will see that their main goal is to keep the people of the Commonwealth disorganized. This leads me to believe that the Institute has a reason for not being able to take the Commonwealth by force up to this point in the story. It could be that their leadership is a split group of scientists. It also seems to me that each division of the institute works too independently of each other to create a focused war campaign. I think that the Institute scientists just don't have the right mindset to muster their advantages into conquering the Commonwealth. Another thing is resources. If the only way in and out is through teleportation then they will probably be limited on resources moreso than the other factions. Sure it seems like they could produce a ton of Gen 2 Synths, but Gen 2 Synths are pretty useless against Knights in Power Armor. I've seen raider gangs more effective than Synth squads. My point is they are making Gen 2 Synths instead of power armor because they lack a sufficient amount of materials to go the route of power armor for their ground forces. Next, let's consider their second most powerful ground forces: Coursers. A single courser is shown to be capable enough to take out a heavily fortified Gunner base X6-88 to be specific. But if you really look at his effectiveness some questions come to mind. 1. X6-88 avoids fighting the majority of gunners in that base leading me to believe he is more of an infiltrator than as capable of a fighter he is made out to be by that scene. 2. He was sent out into dangerous Gunner territory to recover a single Synth. Does this mean that the Institute is having so big of a problem with rogue Synths that they are willing to send their most capable combat units into harm's way just to get one escaped Synth? The Gen 3 Synths, are too unreliable for the Institution to use effectively. The Gen 2 Synths seem to make up the bulk of their fighting force and you see how ineffective they are when you meet Paladin Danse. Infiltration and Reconisance seem to be their biggiest advantage over the other factions. Yes, they could infiltrate and spy in the Brotherhood, but look at how ineffective it was in the story. Sure Danse got close to Elder Maxson, but Danse had become a true member of the Brotherhood at that point. That infiltration only made the Brotherhood stronger. The Gen 3 Synths may seem scary to everyone in the Commonwealth, but they are far from perfect or reliable assets for the institute to use. The institutes most capable asset therefore was Kellogg, a cybernetically enhanced mercenary. Kellogg however could not be trusted with the big missions, nor could the Synths because even the coursers were known to turn on the institute. With all of these problems in mind, I see the Institute as having a hard time using their ability to teleport effectively. Sure they could surprise the Brotherhood, but the Brotherhood has superior firepower and tactics in a fight even if taken off guard. Finally let's address the teleporting over the Pyridin idea. While playing the game on survival difficulty, I was able to teleport to the Institute from anywhere but unable to teleport out anywhere other than the CIT Ruins. This along with lore stating that Synth activity is heaviest around the CIT Ruins leads me to believe that they are unable to teleport anywhere other than the CIT Ruins when they teleport outside of the Institute. Teleporting back to the Institute seems to have less restrictions. Ultimately, I believe that they are unable to wield their teleportation technology except for excape and evasion purposes. That being said, Synth relay gernades seem to act as targets for teleporting gen 2 Synths but their limitations do not seem clearly defined. Perhaps they could be used for that purpose. But these are the reasons that I do not think that the Institute is as OP as they seem.

@@General_Griffin In the game's plot a courser killed an entire building of gunners, with missile launchers and lazer guns and turrets. The coursers are basically all batman and everyone else is a 2-bit thug by comparison. They're quite possibly stronger than Kellog, and Kellog was a masterful fighter, who had the accuracy to perfectly shoot a turret in its combat inhibitor and not be detected while doing so, killing a band of raiders with a single bullet. Then remember that besides the player character, there's no known instance in lore of a courser ever even being killed.

I believe there are 1 or 2 issues with teleportation such as 1: Power consumption 2: Resource allocation (they don't have infinite resources) Finding the institute wouldn't be to hard either because of the giant fusion reactor located within it. And finally, the brotherhood is far better equipped, synths are not the best fighters... Any issues entering the institute would also be null, especially because of the minutemen nuclear option where you just go through the pipes...

I think you make great points about teleportation. But arguably your assumption on the brotherhood of steel is that they would send a squad in and probably die. In lore we know Power Armour is protective against the effects of Radiation, also, the assumption that they would die is based on if they decided to march into the glowing sea and fight their way to virgil. The chances are they would just use a vertibird and drop outside his base. They may hate super mutants but if said mutant has value they would most likely capture and interrogate Virgil. Secondly, to say no one knows where the institute is, is based on what the commonwealth knows. Dr Li is inside the Institute when you show up. No one told her where it is and in Fallout 3 she walks off north, given she spends most of the game in the science lab and then again in the citadel. Which is North of Rivet City, suggests she left with knowledge of where it was without Zimmerman, so she must have gained that knowledge from either escaped synths or the institute didn't used to be that secretive and she was told the location. Given Zimmerman isn't mentioned as telling nor teleporting her in there and his failure to appear in game in FO4 either suggests failure in FO3 or that his mission was extended. Either way that most likely eliminates him as the reason she made it to the institute. The Brotherhood would also most likely be able to figure out the location of the institute provided they held out long enough to decrypt a courser chip and given the pressure piled on by the institute there's no reason the BOS wouldn't acquire Institute tech to examine. Provided that Kellog is a badass and admittedly looks good for a 120 ish year old cyborg, the fact that the game states he was given the task of hunting down Virgil after he delivered Shaun when he was 10 years old, means that Kellog has been literally sitting and scouting out the Glowing Sea for 50 years. If he had any idea where Virgil was, he had the opportunity to take him out long before. He either felt incapable or he had no idea where Virgil was. The BOS however do seem to know. That i admit is a plot hole i do not quite understand but it is significant enough that even without the Sole Survivor they stood a chance of extracting knowledge of the Institues whereabouts. I would argue the case of the Railroad but sadly the game argues that for me. There very existance as even a slight military force would be non existent without the Sole Survivor and so they would be wiped out by whichever of the the remaining two got there first. As for the minutemen, as you said without the sole survivor being a variable the Raiders would finish off the final few in Concord within a day or two of any conflict starting. The institute may win, but it isn't as clear cut as Teleportation being the Deus Ex Machina that it is portrayed as, and would likely be due to the overwhelming boots on the ground and guerrilla fighting that would to be honest have the potential to drag on for years. Whoever can sustain that (Which the BOS can as in Lore they have roughly 10/20,000 soldiers) plus the fear of the institute would likely push the citizens into the BOS's ranks if they wished for their "freedom" allowing for a long drawn out conflict which makes the fight much more even but much more bloody. The BOS isn't necessarily out of the fight, but human reproduction is slow, and Synth production is fast. So they definitely have the back foot. But it means they fight much smarter. Balancing the fight yet again. This war isn't clear cut when the Deus Ex Machina is only advantageous to gain ground. Which the Brotherhood didn't need in the first place.

It's like star wars the clone wars show the brotherhood of steel are clones with power armor and synths are advance droids and keep fighting but the synths like droids are lot larger in numbers and can be easily made , upgraded and repaired too so the institute is more likely to win and if they find the mechanicist lair they can create a 2nd army easy out of it and have reserves to fight with

Still think BoS would take it reason being is there massive size. Maxon is just one chapter and if he rang the bell to other chapters they may jump in. Also a single paladin with a base laser rifle (which is better then the institutes weapon) and a set of T-60 power armor could take a hoard of synths single handedly, Danse at arch jet is a good example and MOST of the time it’s a squad of trained soldiers. A knight in power armor could also take a courser one on one. The brotherhood would be able to find the institute because they were able to find the signal that gets broadcasted everytime teleportation gets used and I believe found institutes hideout using that method even if Sole Survivor helps them. How many synths and coursers could maxon kill all by himself with maxed out T-60 power armor and a Gatling laser? I feel like it’d be a lot lol

Here's my problem with the theory put up here.. When playing through the game multiple times you get a chance to see what it would be like if the player fought for different factions. But it's not just about the perspective of the winning force. It's also giving you a chance to see how the factions you're NOT playing fare without your intervention. The Brotherhood are still capable of finishing Liberty Prime without the Sole Survivor, they still pose a huge threat to the Institute regardless of who the Sole Survivor picks as the faction they want to back - it's ridiculous how capable they are *without* the Sole Survivor. And they're the only faction that shows so much capacity for success without the player's role. The *only* one. Yes, the Institute is technologically superior and technically has the advantage of being hidden - but that information is actually found by the Brotherhood without the intervention of the Sole Survivor and the superior technology isn't enough. The only thing that tips the scales is the Sole Survivor's choices. In the end, if you were to view the Brotherhood through the eyes of an Institute friend player, and then remove the Sole Survivor from the Institute's accomplishments - the Institute would absolutely find defeat. It would just take longer. Besides, historically speaking just because a super-power is more technologically advanced doesn't mean they can't fall to a civilization that isn't remotely as advanced as them. Usually it's the over-reliance on that technology that is the primary spark of that power's downfall. And the Institute is *insanely* over-reliant. The big problem comes in the fact that they don't have a strong home-game and their only real reason for defeating the Brotherhood wasn't because of teleportation or Synths but because the Sole Survivor is a Deus Ex McGuffin god-tier character capable of inhuman feats that make the Commonwealths baddest MOFO look like an overly aggressive toaster. He/She is the *only* reason the Institute ever stood a chance and even Father recognizes that during the Institute side of the story-line. Based on that kind of information it stands to reason that claiming the Institute can't be defeated is ludicrous. Not to mention how amazingly stretched the logic you brought into your own theory has to be in order for teleportation to be of any legitimate tactical use in time to stop the Brotherhood should the Sole Survivor be removed from the equation. And the real truth here is this: The Institute and Brotherhood are on near equal footing when it comes to who could win sans Sole Survivor. They could very well destroy one another, and any victory would likely be Pyrrhic. But if *any* faction could come out as a clear winner sans player intervention it definitely wouldn't be the Institute and the game treats it as such *no matter which faction you choose*. And for everyone claiming that Kellog could lead them to victory - the reason Father wants to replace Kellog is because he has reached his limitations and could do little to nothing more to further the Institute's goals beyond the exact same shit he'd been doing for 20-50 years prior to the player killing him, which effectively amounts to light hitman and bounty hunter work. As both Kellog and Father admit: The enhancements put into Kellog have a shelf life and limitations to what they could do and those limitations were being reached. It was already over for him. Also, teleportation as a tactical advantage only existed for the Institute after the player helped them complete the fusion reactor *years* ahead of schedule. So how exactly could it be an advantage when the Brotherhood, at the same time as this accelerated advancement for the Institute occurs, gets the information needed to defeat the Institute? It's not possible without the player. In the end, the combination of power armor, advanced tactics, and just what the game presents in general for what the brotherhood is capable of even without the player when compared to the tactics, advanced technology, and what the game presents for the capabilities of the Institute sans player involved leaves the Institute as the pathetic underdog in the tale, not the overbearing conquering overlords of the Commonwealth. Granted, the Brotherhood in the Commonwealth would very likely need to retreat back to the DC ruins after the fighting either way, but they are the only faction presented with the capacity to come out as the clear winner should the player have died in cryo-stasis.

There is one problem with this: while the BoS are repairing Liberty Prime, they can't repair him to his best condition which is needed to defeat the Institute without the player. Without the agitator, Liberty Prime can't use lasers or even move around much without draining a stupid amount of energy that the BoS don't have at their disposal. They either use discount Prime and be on par with the Institute (well, until it runs out of battery), or have the SS get them the agitator which turns Prime into the table turner it is.

You make some valid points, however geo politics and war are both more complicated than this theory postulates. You did an excellent job laying out the advantages of the institute, however there are some deeply apparent flaws as well, primarily, with the people themselves. Let us examine a couple problems.... first, Father is a terrible leader. He systematically ignores the advice of his board, he makes rash and ignorant decisions and he has no idea what he is doing tactically... this is a firm recipe for disaster during a campaign... “but he has cancer and will be dead soon” you say.... and you’re right, however I have seen no evidence that any other scientist in the institute has any idea how to fight a war, let alone command one either. Having more pieces on a chessboard than your opponent may sound like a good idea... unless they’re all pawns. You also don’t consider that the enemy of my enemy is my friend... should the institute engage openly with the brotherhood it is likely that they would ally with the railroad rather than destroy them... and by their powers combined, they might actually have a chance... and as for your Manchurian candidate scenario where a synth kills maxon, that may not be the worst thing, I’m not entirely convinced that he is the general he’s cracked up to be... I’m not saying that you’re wrong, or that the institute would lose... I’m simply stating that this war would be a lot nastier than this video implies... of course, in the end the likely scenario between two ego maniacal sociopathic despots raging against one another is that it wouldn’t really matter who won, as there would be little left in the aftermath.... leaving a massive power vacuum for the minutemen or some raider faction to sweep in and win it all in the end.

I always pick the Brotherhood of Steel for my good play through and the Institute for my bad play through. Though IMO *and it's just an opinion don't threaten me* I feel that the SS would side with the institute. I don't think that the SS would ever consider killing their only son no matter what they experienced in the wasteland especially when the memory of his kidnapping was so fresh in the SS's mind. I feel like although the SS would probably disagree with some practices of the institute they would definitely side with it if it meant they could continue to be with their son and continue to build up the legacy Shawn leaves behind. I just don't ever see a parent so determined to find their son going through all that hell the wasteland has to offer to only at the end to kill him. And then somehow justify it. No doubt it would forever traumatize the SS and probably cause them to commit suicide.

I never side with the Brotherhood. Mostly it's because they are xenophobic and their leader is an utter ass, they are also amazingly squishy in the late game. I have a counter to your argument about the SS; their son is not the man they meet in the Institute. You would have to be of a particularly forgiving temperment to accept that the stranger that looks vaguely like you is actually your son. Then you have to take into account the fact that many wouldn't accept it and would go nuts in any of a dozen ways. The human mind is particularly fragile and most people wouldn't be able to cope, SS or not. Also, speaking as a father with an estranged child; there are some things that you simply cannot forgive, no matter how much you love your offspring. What I'm saying is that it depends on the individual, so every choice made as to the SS's allegiance is valid.

There's one part I don't think you mentioned though (I was playing a game while listening so sorry if I missed it!). The Institute's Phase 3 is activating the nuclear reactor, and doing so essentially gives the Institute unlimited power. Without it, they are on the brink of power failure, and don't really have the capacity to defeat the Brotherhood. I suppose Kellogg could attempt it, but is he really strong enough? During the Mass Fusion mission there are a LOT of Brotherhood soldiers, many of them in Power armor. It would be a huge battle and personally, I don't see the Institute being able to win it. heres my take... the BOS are leagues above the Institute in military prowess... institute is one of subversion gorrilla hit and run tactics... they cant take the bos on head to head... though nothing is stopping the institute like with US went to ww1 and 2... is to covert all their production and resources into a war effort.. lol the problem is the faction that would win is a non playable faction.. the gunners... people really really underestimate them... the game itself gives "hidden in plain sight" bits of info on just how massive and developed militarily effective they are... Gunners are a Paramilitary force that allows its soldier to do mercenary work on the side.. Gunners are not a Mercenary group thats organized like a military... theres a difference between the two... xb they are located strategically all over boston and game highly suggest they are outside of it to... with the Nuka world DLC... the gunners may just indeed have access to satellites... if not then a satellite relay ability... no other faction since the enclave had this... they are using this to talk to cypress... gunners have a mirror image of post war miltiary rankings... that means crypress isnt even the highest ranking... xb that make them even more massive then what they appear in game... remember game lore states the gunners ARE EQUAL TOO.... if not MORE POWERFUL then the bos....and unlike the bos they are massive and have the resources and man power that is closer in league to the NCR the bos have all their eggs in one basket... the prdwyn.... the institute have all their eggs in one basket... the institute... gunners have unnumbered eggs in innumerable baskets... and they're presence in the common wealth is very reminisce of the NCR in new vegas.. a frontier... not the main force nor the full power of the faction is present.. Gunners remind me of the US military... Gunners in boston is like US's overseas bases... not the "homeland" manpower and resources are what win wars in the end... Gunners are literally the only ones around in fallout 4 that have this... xb its not a question but when they will fully control boston...

It's explained that teleportation drains immense amount of power and they're all power rationing all throughout the main quest. Many scientists express fear of the next blackout in ambient dialogue. The only person who is allowed to teleport in and out of the institute at once is the sole survivor. Phase 3 is all about power and how the institute doesn't have any right now. So as great as teleportation is, it's extreme power requirements is a pretty effective check against they're mobility. That's why there plans take decade's to come together and probably why you see so many dangerous gen 1's and 2's left on the surface as if to advertise the existance of the super secret institute. Surveillance and secrecy is incredibly useful, but it won't win a war on it's own. The institute is kinda like an early predator drone, with a big camera's to see with but no missile's to shoot. Without an army to act on the intelligence gathered, all you can do is watch helplessly as the terrorist plants the bomb. Their resource superioty is questionable too, during the institute questline 2 bioscience engieers take the entire food supply hostage. Granted they we're protosting the Sole Survivor's appointment to director, but the fact that they can do this at all is very troubling. Also the ends up institute complete's phase 3 anyway (without the beryllium agitator,) in the brotherhood questline, which means there's either more then one in the wasteland or there's something else that can substitute for it. I think that given sufficient time the brotherhood could find the institute and reactivate liberty prime, that is the whole reason they came to the Commonwealth after all. I also think that given time, the institute could complete phase 3 and crush the brotherhood. But the race is much closer then you think it is. Also I think it's a mistake to discount the railroad, not only is they're surveillance and secrecy almost at institute levels, but they're the only faction that has actually hurt the institute and gotten away with it. They existed in fallout 3 and stretched at least as far as the capital wasteland which means they have been doing this for at least a decade. Nobody has been in this fight longer and while they aren't exactly thriving when you find them, I don't think they're going anywhere. They're a different kind of "underground," and the way they take down the brotherhood is inspired. Also assuming you're neutral and shoot the courser that's invincible to everyone but you, and leave everyone else alone. The Railroad Heavies actually manage to successfully defend the synths underneath Bunker Hill, against an onslaught of institute synths and Power Armored Brotherhood Soldier's. Granted they we're in a fortified defensive position and they got they asses kicked out in the open outside the wall, the fact that they could accomplish this at all is pretty damn impressive. Your video is evidence of what is probably the best thing the institute has going for it. Everyone who see's them thinks they're untouchable. They're wild technology impresses, despite it's flaw's and that can make you think you can't win so you won't try, Shock and Awe style de-escalation. Much like what the brotherhood tried to accomplish by bullhorning they're way into the Commonwealth on the prydwin. It's a little late for that now though, the boiling points been reached and war is coming, and war? War never changes...

If the SS becomes director and produce more synths and upgrade the institute rifle up or take other's energy weapons to use , he will have a formable army at his disposal, if he can hack liberty prime too that will be a great asset to institute to have , and take mechanicist lair and produce hundreds of sentribots and assultrons with lair he can have 2 armies to fight on 2 fronts and push forward with his war, and take the fight to everyone basically, create platoons were a courser lead dozens of synths in each platoon and assault the brotherhood of steel with them, and use the sentribots and assultrons army to attack the railroad, gunners, diamond city, raiders and super mutants in one strong blitzkrieg war SS could rule commonwealth indefinitely and if want to lay seige to Nuka world and load up the the train with sentribots and assultrons to attack the defended walled park he can take that too but reinforce with another group to reinforce cuz there's hundreds of raiders in Nuka world etc and SS can build something out of the commonwealth and the institute can expand onward like to capital wasteland just grab some ships fix them up and take over capital wasteland and etc etc lol, the lone wonderer could take over capital are if want to just use mothership zeta robot assembly plant to mass produce robots and take over the capital area, the courier can take over the Mojave desert if he takes over house's securitron army and take the over the Big Mt roboscorpion army and the giant roboscorpion robot with it's big laser cannon and energy shield he could easily take on the NCR and legion army send the securitron army east against legion and roboscorpions west against NCR and have giant roboscorpion stay near new Vegas for reinsurance and use boomers to airstrike NCR away to and have the power to have a true independent power to himself,the courier, lone wonderer and soul survivor each can have a powerful robot army and be a independent power in each of their area lol 😎

To add onto the infiltration point: Glory in the Railroad is a synth she even admits as such. It's a pretty open secret. If someone were to infiltrate with her recall code that's a mini gun welding heavy of the Railroad taken care of. Or if the Institute could figure out how to remotely control synths they could get a bunch in the various factions and control them to turn thier guns on their "comrades". Imagine this: The Institute gets 10 of their gen 3 synths into the Railroad. They are remotely controlled and are programmed to shoot the Railroad on command. They're on a mission with Deacon and Glory when suddenly they shoot the agents in the back or back of the head killing them quickly. Same with the Brotherhood of Steel but on a larger scale. It'd take MUCH longer for them to find enough soldiers AND train them than it would the Institute to make and program them. Then with a single command a platoon (or more) turn on thier fellow soldiers and open fire Elder Maxson would be the Hardest to take out with his power armor and Final Judgement (Gatling laser that shoots faster than even normal gatling lasers)

All it would take is to release gen 3 synths with a weaponized contagion.

In a realistic scenario the sole survivor would die to the 1st disease they came across Their immune system wouldn't have adapted to new virus strains I wish the Minutemen could take out the brothrrhood with artillery, but you need x ammount

Male SS can survive, since he was in US army and am definitely sure that he is been vaccinated with some advanced antibiotics to survive in situations if Chinese used bio weapons against US forces(according to Fallout lore, the Chinese were planning to use bio weapons against America and thus led to research of FEV virus). So, Male SS can survive, while survivability of Female SS is next to impossible, thus proving male SS is canon.

How do we know that teleportation on a greater scale is possible? The reason we don't see the institute do it the way you suggested might be because it's very expensive.

I'm disappointed the game hasn't an option where you choose no faction and end the game only helping yourself.

The Brotherhood detected the power that the institute used to teleport which is one of the reason they came to the commonwealth. Eventually they would have figured it out, but would it have been in time?
