Also, man I really want to rebuild my sniper's Whitespring cliff camp now that the stackable stairs are a thing, but not sure I can get them to work since the camp doesn't go all the way to the lower level. Also I don't want to lose my legacy 3 artillery set up. Wish I'd kept all 6 I'd originally had despite the huge budget cost they had back in the day. Nothing funnier than dropping the hammer on the whitespring golf club with 6 artillery emplacements.

Some things I've noticed over the years, you can place extractors so they're halfway out of the build area, so since they're often awkwardly placed for the main build I often line it up so the build area cuts across the center of the resource node. Also, with my Eagle's Nest electric relay build I spent a bunch of time experimenting with the now stackable two-tile stairs. You can place walls on them, however, if you want to build off them at the top or along the way you may run into issues if you place the walls inside (on the stair foundation) which looks better, so placing foundations around it and putting the walls on the outside was easier to work with, although it left kind of ugly corners.

The resource extractor here has got to be at least half way out of the build zone tbf! 😂 I think the fact that the go in such specific spots must have something to do with it. I do wish that it was one end that was sticking out here rather than the top half though. That did cause a few headaches.

Good job as always. Last time I was down this way with my lover character I discovered the lake for my map but it was infested with floaters which I figured would be a nightmare for a camp. Keep up the good works sir.

Thanks! The floaters are still there, but fortunately it's a long enough way down the hill that its not a problem. Tbh I'm more worried about the fissure site near by!

I as well, have three of my characters that dwell here. I use the same exact Staircase and Placement. I have seen a lot of people do some crazyass staircases here, floating all around, due to the cliff. Your placement is aligned with the natural geometry of the cliff. NICE! I was able to put the "glass" walls on stairway structure, however, there are a couple walls that won't fit. They are generally in the same areas so it looks OK. WOW, that Cave. You are a TRUE MASTER at working in TINY spaces! Great Job!! My design has all the business up top of the cliff. PRO TIP: If you put CAMP unit, farther UP the ledge, you are able to build a two story structure up TOP. There is a SWEET spot HALFWAY UP in the crevice which allows access to both ACID and LEAD resources. When placing CAMP unit is literally sticking into the rock there. It took lots of trial and error, but now I pass the knowledge to YOU, if you decide to start a new one, here. This spot has the best two resource nodes, on the map. VERY GOOD location! My cave is less hidden and has my crops in it and is protected by 2-3 foundations closes the area up closer to cliffs edge. A Seedy Shed holds collectron and other resources down on the ground level. Great Build! Oh one last thing, you mentioned you fast travel in mountain, easy fix, my CAMP unit is ultimately placed Up TOP around near the LEAD Extractor. You will then fast travel at the top, usually under the ROCK ARCH, which is another COOL structure at this location.

Glad you liked the build! This is definitely one of the cooler locations out there. The resources alone make it worth while. I like the idea of using glass walls on the stairs. I doubt I have the budget left for it though. I realised the issue with the camp unit being placed too low, unfortunately I'd finished building out the cave by that point and didn't much fancy doing it over again! I may well try moving the Camp unit up to the top if I continue to have issues with the arrival point. Hopefully that will sort it.

I did try that, but unfortunately that came with it's own issues. The walls narrow pretty rapidly, so if you go too high you seem to run into the same issue not being able to snap the wall in. On the whole i wanted the floor lower as well. I like the extra headroom and the extractor looks strange just sticking out of the floor imo. This way the clipping looks more natural to me. Either way, I'm fairly happy with it.

How did you get trees? Where do I find them?

They're an Atomic Shop set. There's 3 different types, plus brambles and couple of standalone trees available. They're worth keeping an eye out for as the can really help with dressing up a camp and making it feel like part of the environment.

Day 12: Almost giving up. Can't place the doorway at the cave entrance no matter what. And that's literally the first thing I'm trying to do...

You need to place a foundation so that the door frame is where you want it, then put the door in place, then remove the foundation. After that you can continue with the test of the build independently.

The game is not allowing me to place a foundation directly where I need, so I'm having to place one inside the cave, and then try to snap another by the entrance, in a position that allows the doorframe to be placed. Problem is: no matter how I position it, the game won't allow the door frame to be placed...

Hmm. It sounds like you have the right approach. At a guess, the collision on the cave walls is a bit tight at the point you're placing the door. You might need to lower the foundation a bit, (if I remember correctly mine was only just visible over the dirt), or move the doorway to a different point in the entrance.

It's too close to the red rocket for that. I put the camp unit across the road from it. That way the cave is just inside the build area.

Sorry, I got the video mixed up with a different one. I placed the camp unit part way up the cliff, on the left, in the gap that leads to the cave, though I'd go a bit higher up than I did if you can. It's possible something got changed in a recent update though I can't imagine why. If you're having trouble connecting a wire to the led extractor it might be because the camp unit wasn't placed high enough up the cliff; I had that issue in my build. The conduit on the extractor may be out side the build zone.

How did you get a foundation step up in the cave?

In this case I think I placed it, the selected the foundation, then pressed+hold the select button to move up and down. You can snap to ramps too if you want to raise it by s half wall height.

I don't see how you built this. I've spend hours try to geth foundations to sit within but it doesn't work.

It took a lot of trial and error. The foundations will clip into the walls a little, but only a little. I started close to the entrance and worked inward adjusting things until it fits. The foundations on one side of the extractor may have to be done separately to the rest and I think one towards the back right wasn't technically connected to the others. For the entrance I had to remove a few foundations and put the entrance in separately then put back the ones I had removed. The raised area I did last once everything else was in place. It was very time consuming with a lot of trial and error, which is why I didn't show the building process, the video would have been long, repetitive and probably a mess after I tried to edit it down to something manageable. So in short, I feel your pain! 😂 It can be done but it's an exercise in patience and persistence! And not one I'm in a rush to repeat!

Tbh, if I didn't show it in the video it probably took a lot of messing about to get them in. It was quite a while ago now though so I can't remember. I think I started at the north end and put the lowest level in first. The upper level I think was placed separately, but I might have used a ramp to get them to snap in at the higher level.
