Fusion mag overriding explosive effect is probably due to legacy weapons fix, which prevents energy type weapons to have explosive effect.

This. Energy weapons used to spawn with the explosive legendary effect once upon a time and they were ridiculously strong. Even after making them impossible to obtain, the "legacy" weapons left behind continued to persist for a few years until Bethesda finally patched them out. Energy weapons are not supposed to spawn with or benefit from the explosive legendary effect, and modding the Crusader Pistol (or the Pepper Shaker) with the "fusion magazine" turns them into energy weapons more or less (wither the updated science perks work on them, I don't remember).

@Surgeplus it's good they're gone, but at the same time, i think they need to do a couple revisions. Let the harpoon gun be explosive, it's not an energy weapon, no reason it shouldn't be. Let the pepper shaker behave like the crusader pistol and then let it be explosive. An anti armor explosive single barrel pepper shaker would be sick

Two-Shot weapons just miss targets too often for me to choose them over the others. I first noticed it with Gauss Rifles and every weapon since. Thanks for the video, as always!

My Plasma Caster is like this as well. If at 95% it is still like a 50/50 chance to miss the first shot in VATS. Now if I am point blank non VATS it is fine. Might build another caster and see if I can roll something else worthwhile. I just have so much ammo now and 90% weight reduction on the weapon it is more annoying than hindering.

@albusplaustrum06 i think vats is just bad over all. I know two shot exacerbates it, but my anti armor plasma castor regularly misses until it's at 90%+

Yeah, sadly. It's the main reason the only two shot I use regularly is the nuka launcher (and it's a potential deathtrap if you not careful about placing your shots). If you don't have an explosive effect (on the bullet or explosive ordinance) it's a negative/detrimental legendary effect :(

@devinlpatterson don't sell the other explosive weapons short. The missile launcher and hellstorm are both great. The hellstorm has become my favorite launcher. It shoots faster than the standard ML and i was lucky and got ffr on mine. Put on tesla science 5 and you'll have AT LEAST 4 shots (usually 5-6). I practically soloed eviction notice with it and some nuka grenades just last night. Granted, it does less damage than the regular one, but it's a TON of fun and not a common weapon to see.

I love the weapon. Aristocratic, explosive and plus 50 to hit chance. Pyro receiver no suppresser. Looks cool better noise bang bang. Blade runner look and running around on fire when caught in the explosions is hot as shit

Thanks for the review. I also tested the Science Perks vs Crusader Pistol; my initial thought was the perks would increase damage if the Fusion receiver was used (same way Explosion treats the weapon as an energy weapon), but they were completely useless for Crusader Pistol with any receiver...

my biggest problem is that pistols use the agility slots which have the most important perks like sneak, sneak dmg and adrenaline. so you have to trade either some dmg or risk beeing detected easier. if pistols would be in perception they would be much better. without sneak bonus and other perks, pistols just underperform, which is a shame.

Totally agree! The only worse weapon for Perk Cards is the Pepper Shaker. And you didn’t even mention Gun Fu, Thru Hiker, Action Boy, etc…..

Bugesda needs to make these special weapons more powerful or special. This is useless, the fixer kills a mutant two hits. There's no point in carrying around these guns with exotic ammos when a fixer can do a better job

I use a vampire's one as a sidearm with the fire receiver to get some health back on my bloodied commando. With friendly fire I can also use it to heal others and looks great on bosses to set them on fire.

Thanks for the info Turtle. Did I understand you correctly (near the end of the video), that the explosive effect will process the cryo freezing? So a two shot explosive would process 4 cryo effects (assuming both projectiles hit) with each round? Also a semi related question; Is Vampire effect still processing an extra vampire effect on explosive bullet weapons? I started a reddit thread about explosive shotguns and learned (at least according to the reddit peeps), that the explosive effect on the pellet no longer counts as an extra hit for crippling with enforcer. So I thought I'd ask about vampire. Thanks for your help and any insight you can provide.

Perfect timing on this vid Turtle, maybe borderline suspicious haha because a couple days ago I was thinking about trying out the Crusader pistol! I've played around with the Alien Blaster and had a blast with it (yup I went there). I have an anti-amour crusader that dropped for me a long freaking time ago (don't remember the other stars) just never used it. I guess it's time to dust that sucker off.

The devs need to add automatic receiver options to more pistols, and count 10mm submachine without a stock as a machine pistol like how the laser rifle works. Not much incentive to use the guerilla perk.

So, what would honorable gunslingers choose - virgin crusader peashooter or gigachad two shot alien blaster? Jokes aside, it used to be my favourite gun in this weapon class, now it's just average. Feels like using combat rifle, when you can use handmade/fixer.

Mine's a TS 90RW fire pistol basically used for healing people (and some NPCs) in events. Every once in a while I use it to kill ferals or Scorched. It's a fine utility weapon.

I've been using my vampire crusader with friendly fire for months now... It's fun to chase low level players around and shoot them as they get low on health and watch them express the "???" Emote as their health goes up!

On my first character when this pistol came out I was using a legacy handmade so I used the 5.56 for pistol so save weight in ammo. Stoped using pistol could not win anything

I've been using a bloodied with faster fire rate and less ap and pyro receiver for a couple months and I love this gun and it's cheap on ammo I had to sacrifice gun fu to 1star and adrenaline at 2stars and I'm still destroying enemies cheers to U turtle

The reason laser/plasma doesn't work with explosive is that Bethesda is lazy and kinda bad at programming. Instead of programming the explosion effect to occur during the impact, it is programmed into the projectile itself. This is incidentally why the railway rifle turns into hitscan, it's because the projectile is changed. There was only ever one explosive projectile made. Ultimately this can be fixed by adding a script and some tags to swap out the projectile depending on the gun's native projectile. Eg laser weapons would get its normal laser projectile but with an explosive effect on hit (if they wanted it to look cool they could make it a red plasma-ish splash effect). I'm also pretty sure a mod to FO4 (basically the same under the hood) adds explosive plasma and laser legendary effects. Also I know the incendiary receiver works with friendly fire, but if the gun is explosive does the splash also heal allies?

Man for people telling me that the crusader pistol is the best pistol!!! It really is a bad "laser" pistol so maybe don't mod for that lol. Also keep in mind the standard gauss pistol is explosive by default and does scale with science stacking etc.

I think the real answer is more complicated. I think there are many good pistols in 76 and they excel at different things. The crusader pistol is like your upgrade to your 10 mill it's a work horse gun that does nothing special.

Wait I don't even think that dmg is good...am I missing something if you head shot your standard level 50 trash mob super mutant with an armor piercing explosive western revolver your dmg is waaaaaaay higher. Like night and day so yeah "best pistol ever" is flat wrong.

Been here since launch and all anybody does anymore is Bloodied, stealth, and/or power armor. I'd love to see more weird builds that work, especially for people who do Not have optimal gear. After over 2300 hours of game time, Meta is boring AF. I love 76 but Fallout used to be about story and build diversity. You could pick up anything you wanted and find a way to make it work. Never in any Fallout game have I run around with almost no health, stayed in sneak 24/7, or given a shit about Power Armor. I understand, its an mmo, but this is not balance. We used to do too MUCH damage, so they nerfed us, but before the nerf, that damage was the only way crappier, more fun, more themed builds performed well into end game. Now that we are nerfed everyone min maxes into the most Meta builds they can, and its not fun trying underperforming playstyles on level 100 super mutants. I wish this channel would create a build of the month that wasn't so damn Meta, or didn't have Meta dependencies, like the top 3 I mentioned here. Everytime I see this channel talk about a gun most don't use, I get excited. Oh yeah! Here comes a wierd build. But nope, Stealth. But Nope, Power Armor. But nope, Bloodied. Try something WIERD turtle. I'm not the only one that wants it. EDIT: I was unnecessarily harsh in this comment :( ... and I deeply regret it. You have done Plenty of off Meta builds, and it wasn't fair to direct all this at you. For what it's worth, I apologize. Thank you for all you do.

2 shot went from doing the weapon damage in 2 bullets to splitting the damage to almost half of what it was and to increase the damage only by 20%. In my opinion they completely ruined the 2 shot legendary to the point its just garbage
