I live in WV have my whole life. I've been to everywhere from point pleasant to New River Gorge. I offen play fallout 76 and offer people tours of locations an give real life history lesson of those sections. I love seeing videos like this an I love West Virginia. Great video!

I grew up in White Sulphur Springs. My senior prom was held at the Greenbrier Hotel, and let me tell you...that carpet near the ballroom is ACCURATE!

While I've always been slightly disappointed at the size of the towns and locations in 76, I understand that not everyone finds that kinda of travel length to be fun. Still, it's fascinating just how much the devs did squeeze into the game. Walking around Harpers Ferry and Morgantown are always some of my favorite things to do when I'm not busy with the scoreboard stuff. I'm curious if Wavy Willard's has a real-world equivalent or if it's a Fallout exclusive locale.

I’ve seen a suggestion that Wavy Willard’s is based on the Clarksburg Splash Zone, a small water park in Clarksburg, but looking at the site on google street view, I don’t see the connection (aside from the obvious point that both are water parks near Clarksburg). Similarly I’ve seen it suggested that the Pleasant Valley is a representation of Snowshoe ski resort, because there’s a building in both called Top of the World. There’s no aesthetic similarity between the two structures, so aside from both being ski resorts I don’t see the connection. That said, it could be that both of these connections are real.

My issue is they should have gone a little more evenly between the two extremes. I mean real scale it would take years to play so I understand scaling down but not far enough that it renders most of the roads impossible to traverse let alone at the speeds posted on the roads. Would take about 1.4 seconds to drive the longest route from end to end of the map.

I've always seen Fallout maps/games as shrinking the size of every location due to playability. And also, the massive walking like you pointed out. I think of it like WoW games in the sense of: they can not show all the people or size of a huge city because our computers would never play the games. We would have to return to room sized computers just to move our characters (LOL). I am thinking that the designers moved places in FO West Virginia so that it would show the actual differences between our worlds. And maybe even for copyright or so that people would not get doxxed or bothered by loony players. I continue to love these videos. I learned so much again! Thanks so much!

Yeah, I noticed that some of the locations are more than a bit off in Fallout 76, especially since I actually travel through the northern part of the map when I head out to see my brother in Pittsburgh. Like you can see the "Landsview Lighthouse" from I-68, and I go through Morgantown, past the Vault-Tec, er West Virginia University to take 79 north to Pittsburgh. Also, the real Golden Palace (aka Temple of the Winding Path) is in that bit of West Virginia that sticks up between PA & Ohio west of Pittsburgh, instead of being south of Washington, PA as it is in-game. I've also been to the real Helvetia for their annual Ramp (wild leek) festival, since I couldn't make it out for the Fasnacht celebration. I was struck with how well they represented it in-game, though (my CAMP is located across the bridge just south of the Community Hall).

Id like to see a pristine version of the appalachia from 76. Such as the dam being intact and pre-poison toxic valley

I get why they moved stuff around (mostly to fit with the engine's limitations and for creative purposes), but it makes West Virginia seem more like a box and something completely separate from the other wastelands, when irl it should connect the west-side of the Capitol Wastland and the Pitt. I mean it makes it for a nicer game, and I like the compactness so everything is less tedious, but Fallout WV is all over the place compared to Real Life WV.

This is a really cool concept I've always been a history buff and what if alternate histories intrigue me aswell which is one of the reasons I enjoy fallout so going over these locations and events compared to real-life and what really changed around the great atomic age of 1950 and before in this universe are you also going to do the other fallout games in a similar manor aswell?

New Vegas struck the perfect balance for real representation vs what can be presented in game.

theres a differentiation in the pronounciation depending on the geographical direction you came from, more people in the south say appa - LAH - cha rather than appa - LAY - cha

@@frederiquebelec I'm talking about actual, born in the back hills, never been more than 50 miles from home, coal mining, boot legging, farming, Appalachians. Not people from the city.
