So much for this mod "basing itself pretty hard on the old Fallouts". It makes no sense that the plot of Fallout 1 would be considered a myth, especially coming from an NCR general. The Vault Dweller is idolized by the NCR, his story has been presumably recorded a bunch of times and there's friendly 1st gen supermutants that can corroborate it. He even says that the NCR has had supermutant troopers for 100 years. It's incredible how contradictory his nonsense is.

I'm starting to wonder if, in game, Mike and Zach are actually ex corsurs who have been taken in by the railroad. It'd explain how they're absolutely unstoppable bounty hunter/killers/soldiers. Without knowing anything else about the plot, I'd rewrite that sequence as follows: Some scientist whackjob convinced a group of Supermutants to let him experiment on them with the possible goal of reversing their sterility. He hasn't been too successful with that, but his experiments lead to the creation of a lesser strain he calls "Greater Mutants" - somewhere in the middle between actual Supermutants and Feral Ghouls. Those make up the majority of the mutant army that is unleashed, being slightly weaker and even less intelligent than their bigger counterparts, but respecting the lore and creating an interesting regional enemy variant. For his experiments the scientist needs test subjects fit for the process, which he gets by blackmailing Silverman to "accidentally lose" suitable personnel periodically, or risk being overrun by a horde of mutants. With his rows thinning of undesirable recruits good enough for the exchange, this time the general decides to kill two birds with one stone and deliver the (questionably aligned and unpredictably independent) player instead - which fails... Confronting him about it, Silverman panics, afraid of the mutant army pouring out as threatened. Especially since he suspects that Elsdragon had a similar deal with them and may end up joining forces or exploit the chaos unharmed, since he held up his side of the bargain. With some emotional blackmail attempt about "the poor civilians that will suffer because you resisted" (called out by the player), he then sends you off to assassinate Elsdragon - in the hopes that without their leader's knowledge, the raiders will default to fighting off the mutants, weakening both forces in the process.

The Super Mutant chase segment only kinda' works if you have one of the recommended mods that enables sprinting, but even then they tend to catch up and be a pain in the ass. If you spoke to the mutant and had good stats, he'd tell you who betrayed you: it was members of the NCR congress who sympathized with the muties Unity plan. As to why they'd set you up: well you gotta find a specific terminal during the last quest. They really screwed themselves by turning off the stat checks.

I feel like a decent amount of the stat checks are way too high unless you're min/maxing. I also think that the high SPECIAL checks are more frequent than in the base game, and it results in save-scumming how many chems you take before doing specific things.

But I think that's intentional because just about every named character is able to give you a perk that boosts your special/skills and I think the devs don't really intend for every check to be passed. Also in regards to the skill stats, there are skill books everywhere. The Rossman cave has like 6 Dean electronics.

The main thing that comes to mind for me is the speeches you can give in the pit as a raider captive, and when you stage a coup. The one in the pit isn't that hard since it uses speech skill, but the one during the coup requires 9 or 10 charisma. I just wish they'd let you cut the speech off whenever you want, so you don't get railroaded into a failed charisma check.
