@sleeperdart Even if we aren't judging by writing 4 is still pretty mid. Its shooter mechanics don't compare well to actual shooters of the era, the graphics were never anything to write home about, and the gameplay loop is just Borderlands-lite. Writing is a pretty important part of a Fallout game, and most choice-based RPGs in general.

You only need the New Vegas Tick Fix and Yui's Unofficial Patch. The game will run like a dream with minimal crashes(it's still a game on a Bethesda engine, after all)

27:10 it actually makes a lot of sense from a lore point for the NCR and Legion to pardon you at that point. Its not like either of the actually want to do that, they are just kinda forced to. The player did like five things previously considered impossible (Enter the Lucky 38, kill a Strip Family leader, escape the grave, ...) and both factions are having some mayor issues that need fixing from an outside source, so they pardon you in the hope you will help them

32:11 that is not the story of the DLC. The owner was in love with Verra, but they never married. Verra was never ment to love him back, Dean (they Ghoul you work with) intended for her to seduce him so he can get to guys money. The casino closes whith all the people inside, but that was intentional, as the bombs fell that day and it was always ment to be like a vault just without the experiments. But the casino malfunctions (Likely because it was built by the guys from Big MT) and kills everyone

Also at the end Verra (who Dean manipulated through her dependency on med-x due to chronic disease) actually does love Sinclair and wants to call off the heist, but Dean won't let her. She's trapped in that room begging Sinclair who has a change of heart but dies trying to override the security on the door. Verra then realises she's trapped and ODs on med-x to end her life. It's incredibly tragic and well-written.

1 thing I adore about the games is the aesthetic. 3 had this grimy washed out greenish pallette, vegas went for grimy gold/yellow whilst 4 went for a nightmarish but colourful fd up style reminiscant of a kids program gone horribly wrong.

nah man I hate the yellow piss orange look of fallout new vegas. Yes, it is iconic. No, it isn't nice, it's ugly as hell. Reminds me of Ratchet and clank 3's colour palette which was awful, specially coming after Ratchet and Clank 1 and 2 which had so many different visuals for each planet. God what were they thinking when having orange and brown as their main colour.

To be fair about the “Get out of jail free card,” most players get that moment much earlier in their play-through, especially on their first time. You had already done a lot of exploring and made contact with groups like the Boomers. Most players will stick predominantly to the main quest until after they’ve confronted Benny, and then begin really exploring. I think the developers figured you’d still have at least two thirds of the game left at that point.

To be fair with the Legion giving you a pass, most players get to that part long before you did. Usually you do the quests for the boomers, kings, brotherhood, etc. AFTER getting the platinum chip.

@@Guyinthetie Honestly it's really hard to sequence break the story in this game. On my current playthrough I found out that there's special dialogue if you never talk to Mr. House before Fortification Hill. It's crazy, almost as if the writers gave a shit or something.

Yup, I think a lot of people often forget that some experiences cannot be fully appreciated until you've reached a certain level of maturity. That's not a slight to the other games, but New Vegas is a game that is designed with mature gamers in mind. It has mature themes, including things that KZbin itself would autodelete from the comment section if I simply called it by it's proper term. It assumes a certain level of critical thinking skills, and also patience from the player. Things that children tend not to have much of yet. Bethesda level writing and game design is almost insulting to your intelligence by comparison. They design their games for general audiences, more akin to a show made for high schoolers than for matured adults. They lack the depth and complexity of consequence. They aren't bad games, but they're made for a different audience.

Fallout 3 and NV are like frozen chicken nuggets and fried chicken thighs, respectively. Chicken nuggets are awesome and easy for kids, but as you get older, you appreciate fried chicken thighs as you get older. You might still have a taste for nuggies, but you remember why you stopped eating them when you eat one again

I personally think the greatness and brilliance of NV (bugs notwithstanding) cannot be fully appreciated from one runthrough of the game. It has such a sheer variety of choice and consequences to those choices compared to any other game of the series, and you get so much extra insight and information through doing each storyline. The weapons too, there's so many fun options for different builds and playstyles, and different resolutions to the companion stories as well. With the DLCs as well for instance, Ulysses can be talked down and reasoned with, and you can speak with him after the end of the DLC and get some more insight from him. My personal favorite DLC is OWB, entirely for its writing and character stuff, with Lonesome Road in 2nd, and a tie between the first two. OWB has many of the best weapons for energy builds (you can also upgrade the K9000 gun into a more powerful .44 machine gun called FIDO) and I love its style and scifi nature. Ulysses is pretty widely regarded along w/ Joshua Graham as the best character in the Fallout franchise or at least one of the best, and I couldn't agree more as I find his character very fascinating, and I always think killing him undercuts a lot of the story and themes. I think mechanically the first DLC can be very frustrating and I had a very hard time with it my first run, but its writing is excellent. I love the environment and new gear in Honest Hearts as well as Graham, but the rest of the DLC is sort of lacking. New Vegas has a persistent theme, that being "Letting Go." House cannot let go of his old idea of Vegas, the NCR cannot let go of the idea of emulating the United States, and the Legion cannot let go of the old ideals of fascism, conservativism, and the Roman Empire. These ideas are best illustrated by the name of the 3rd DLC, Old World Blues. Each DLC has a bit to go with this too, Elijah cannot let go of the heist and his plans even if they are evil and flawed, and (technically) you're not supposed to be able to take all the Gold Bars so you have to literally "let them go", Joshua Graham needs to let go of his hate and his time in the Legion to move on and become a better person, the Think Tank cannot let go of their experiments and past, and Ulysses must let go of his hatred for the Courier, which you do if you ally with him in the ending where you talk him down and the two of you work together to fight off the Marked Men, Lonesome Road in general is about the Courier letting go of their own past and finishing their arc before the 2nd Battle for Hoover Dam.

Unless you consider having new products to buy being that which gives a media property life, then if anything it did the opposite. Yeah sure, there's more FO games out now than ever... but the particular tone and themes established by FO1, and furthered and expanded upon by FO2, were absolutely slaughtered by Bethesda with FO3. FO3 is superficially similar to the first two games but in every way that matters - worldbuilding, tone, themes, game progression, character writing, etc. - it's a completely different beast.

I admit that on my six playthroughs of New Vegas I've never played without unofficial patches, because the game is buggy as hell. But then again, I've never played a Bethesda game for long without a unofficial patch. New Vegas is still my favorite though

Just a heads up for new players, if you change the difficulty from in game it doesn't actually change, it only works from the main menu.

The pardon is essential because most players reach that point long before you did, and many have killed legionnaires without knowing you can work with them or meet their leader and hear his philosophy and history of the legion. For example I killed the legion in Nipton out of outrage, which would have prevented me from activating House/YesMan's securitrons which are at the legion Fort. That's why that pardon is there, to stop new players accidentally locking themselves out of half the story.

26:45 Regarding the reputation reset, I think it's very in character for the Legion to do. They see a determined soldier who is willing to go trough hell and high water to get revenge on the guy who tried to kill him so they want to recruit him. That is very similar to how Lanius was recruited into the Legion. He killed dozens of Legionaries at least, and that is the reason they let him live and recruited him into the army. As for the NCR, I agree with you.

Well in my simple case, Old World Blues was my favorite because all the campiness, the attitude of the brains in the think rank being like those B type science fiction movies of the 50's, and Lets not forget the dialogues and personalities of all the apliances. The dialogues, even if it was too much, i have to be honest, it was one of times were u laughed more in the entire game.

Running it on modern hardware just download some community patches for free on the Nexus that fix the crashes, stuttering etc. You seem to have missed the secondary 'main' plot in Honest Hearts about the survivalist up in the mountain caves, you can even get his armor and unique 12.7mm rifle which are really cool. You're right that NV is far better than 3 but most people didn't give it a chance at launch (which cost Obsidian their bonus by 2 points on metacritic 😥) so people have green tinted nostalgia goggles for 3 despite none of your choices mattering at all. For me player agency is what makes RPGs like NV great and just blowing everything up with a giant robot at the end was kinda meh. Tbh NV is probably the best game in the whole series for me, as it definitely has the most impactful choices to make.

I also thought it didn't make much sense how the Legion pardon you, but I think it's because the platinum chip is needed to destroy the securitrons in the bunker. Since you're the only person who has the item needed to accomplish that, they let you off the hook in the hopes that you'll help Caesar out (alongside the fact that Caesar said he liked you because you get results). But I do agree that it's still a bit stupid how you get pardoned regardless of your actions against them. Same goes for the NCR as well. They will even pardon you if you nuked both factions in Lonesome Road before reaching the Strip lol. I think they should have made it where you only get pardoned if you don't reach a "Vilified" reputation with either of them. Also slight correction for Dead Money: Vera wasn't Sinclair's wife, Sinclair just had a massive crush on her. Dean blackmailed her into helping him break into his vault to get his gold. This was a great watch! You have a fun sense of humor and I enjoyed hearing about your experience with this game. I hope you earn more subscribers in the near future! You earned a new one 😁

Haven't watched the video but i can say its pretty darn good. I stared playing it for the first time a couple months back. I had never played a fallout game fully nor do i usually like going back to games with old graphics. I started playing this one and got obsessed with the game and lore. Was it buggy at times and made me lose a lot of progress because i didnt save, yeah, but overall i loved the gameplay and story. Tried 3 and its not the same vibe and was getting bored at points. I didnt like the feeling of the map compared to NV. Yet to try any of the others yet

The get out of jail free card that you mention I didnt mind, because the game lets you choose from 4 main factions being legion, yesman, NCR, mr house, legion and NCR are the only one that give you a blank slate so you dont miss on making a concious choice + is more of a choice than fallout 3 ever had, I love fallou 3 for diferent reasons i love that is more casual, turn my brain off and just play, very few wepon choice, no breaking my head with bullet types, or how this quest will affect another down the road and many other aspects of the game that feel streamlined.

Yeah it seems I went to benny quite late in my play through so for me it felt like a koast minute choice to pick an ending but for others it's like 1/3 into the play through so it could just be a personal gripe 💪🏻👔

Fallout NV was designed as a spinoff, is was changed after to be a main but non number game like resident evil revelations, please keep that in mind because it explains many of the games issues, as it’s larger then initially expected

I find it hard to recommend this game in its vanilla state. There are too many bugs and the cut content makes it feel pretty empty. It kinda requires at least Open Strip and a mod to add more NPCs walking around.

Yes no doubt modded is way better but tbh It's not too bad in vanilla least for me (Win 10 /Win 8 compatibility mode) Runs fine. Crashes are rare but can still happen.

I'm with you on the DLCs, Dead Money is my favorite because its got this spooky horror vibe and its a casino heist and all your heist members are quirky and you can carry back all of the gold if you know what you're doing. Personally my least favorite was Honest Hearts, mostly because there wasn't as much to do in Zion as the other DLCs but its far from bad. As for Caesar pardoning you, I do think it makes some sense for Caesar's character. He puts a lot of value into strength, so he would be interested in you, and he is the kind of guy who would think he can convince you to change your mind once he explains how the Legion has brought peace to Arizona, albeit peace involving slavery and crucifixion

When i was a kid playing i ran straight to vegas to gamble and get laid. Just played it again basically for the first time and omg this game is so ahead of its time and still tops almost every open world. I always wanted a game where the quests arent just go here shoot these guys and come back. the writing and world building makes it feel like youre actually helping the mojave instead of just getting told what to do for contents sake. im on my second play through and already have done about 4-5 different quests i completely missed on my first run.

You’ve got some guts coming out of the gate poking at a fan base that will tear you apart cause just be cause you like a game that isn’t there’s. Still NV is a fantastic game, and if it weren’t for the immense amount of obviously cut corners and unfinished/underdeveloped content that this game has it would be a perfect game in my eyes. Also the reputation reset is suppose to happen mid game, and dealing with Benny, if we go by what the devs intended, is supposed to be the end of act one. The fun of having an open world game that has a lot of its side content connected to the main story means you will be sequence braking a lot.

I'd actually recommend against this... 3 is designed around its own perk system, where you get a perk every single level rather than every 2. This makes the game far more annoying to play, since ToTWL uses new vegas' slower leveling system (quests in NV give more exp than 3's do as well).

The reason why New Vegas is so buggy is because team was literally given like 18 months to finish it. So they basically crammed everything they could and had no time to debug it. PC version at least has fan patches and Josh Sawyer's mod. Unfortunately, PS3/Xbox 360 versions didn't had that luxury

As long as you don't mind looking at 720p visuals (New Vegas didn't get the resolution boost patch Fallout 3 was given on Xbox Series X) New Vegas runs at 60fps on Series X which is better than Xbox 360. But on a 55" 4K television it does look pretty dated.

Yeah I couldn't do survival in New Vegas or Fallout 4. The only way I was able to do it in Fallout 4 was with mods to basically make it hard mode but with the status effects of eating drinking sleeping

I gotta say, despite it's bugs, glitches, and crashes, (Hey they had to make this game in a hurry and 4 DLCs) They honestly made a fucking masterpiece for the story and gameplay. It's way more immersive that I can just kill nearly every NPC even faction leaders and the story can still continue, or I can ignore the story and just go on a mass murder spree, or make choices that fuck up things for every body, there is a general "main story" but you can just stick entire sections of it if you don't want to bother with following the "story route" to Vegas and just run through everything. SUch as you can get involved with the affairs of Freeside or just pay some Caps to get into The Strip. which I find hilarious since you're the guy who's supposed to deliver the chip to Mr House.

Saw someone on r/Fallout or Reddit say Starfield isn't as bad as FNV and he got obliterated by the comments and they were calling this guy things I'd never even think of and I thought he was just trolling until he deleted his account and honestly he deserved it FNV is probably one of the top ten best RPG ever made its that good of a game even the DLC's are good and the best way to sum up the game is that FNV is a banana split and the DLC is the cherry on top but I will say I hate that if you play the game for more than 30 minutes expect a crash or freezing even with mods to help but still a great game even I like Fallout 3 the same
