But then, they made it too weird (and bad) to use, and so no one does anymore despite being one of the most unique exotics in the entire game. Just pointing out to OC that we have a bunch of 'not meta but fun' exotics in the game - no one uses them (en masse) because they are too far outside the meta, even if they are cool and fun.

Actually looks like the SMG activates the exotic trait on normal reload. I could be wrong, but it 100% looks like the reload activating it is the auto-default reload. Edit: considering the status bar is called panic response, thid makes more sense to me.

Exactly. It activates on normal reload. If you don't want to fire the blight rounds, you'll need to wait for the ammo to come back.

SMG will likely be a more fun weapon moment to moment, but for the trace rifle being able to jolt and blind an entire room full of enemies will do crazy work (and stun champs), it will most likely be the more useful of the two in high end content.

So it's a weird distinction but they said in the stream that for the SMG it's a regular manual reload, not the special reload you would do by holding down the reload button. I was actually really stoked about this change because special reloads feel super clunky to me so I was hoping we'd be moving away from that design but then they immediately followed it up with the trace rifle lmao

Special reload felt much better when I rebound the key for it so it’s not “hold reload”. I agree the base binding sucks but once I bound it to the d-pad it works much better imo

Rebind your special reload button to one of the D-Pad buttons (and change your emotes to Hold if you want to still use that button for an emote). It makes these kinds of interactions much nicer and prevents those times where you'll completely waste your special reload when trying to revive someone or interact with a thing.

4:57 Barrow-Dyad is a *CRAFTABLE* exotic. That empty slot is actually a *DEEPSIGHT* slot, and 42:41 in the dev stream shows the deepsight text at the bottom. Because it’s a precursor to the weapons of sorrow, I think that we get to replace the “Taken Divergence “ perk with one from a weapon of sorrow, essentially creating an evolutionary line, E.G: ToM’s Blight shot

Episodes have been mostly disappointing and it’s evident in the player numbers. Some people just take everything as “hating” when it’s actually legitimate tiredness of mediocre especially because we have seen the glory days, we know what they are capable of delivering because they have done it before. Warlocks should try Vesper of Radius. having the rift blinding effect while on pure arc with the new warlock aspect would work very well with lodestar. As a bonus, since healing will be reduced in the dreadnaught, having a rift that acts as a pseudo-safe-haven would be super cool too. Since bungie likes challenging us by throwing many enemies in an enclosed space, it works out super nice for Vesper's whole "the more enemies nearby, the faster your rift charges". combine vesper of radius with the new arc aspect and the existing arc-soul-on-rift-cast aspect, and you have a recipe for a solid arc battlestation build :)

I think when they said it was a precursor, that was more of a lore thing. Especially since it's Strand and they've been consistent in making all weapons of sorrow Kinetic. They even changed Necrochasm to fit, since it was Arc in D1.

5:06 I think this is tied to crafting. During a moment of the reveal of the SMG, when they hover over the icon, you can see a message under the stats that says "Deepsight activation is available for this weapon" (I checked the stream video, you can see it if you pause at 42:41)

4:55 in this video is an in game clip from the stream and you can see there’s no deepsight slot when they showcased the gun itself. Bungie made it a hard point with revenant, heresy, and even the sneak peaks for frontiers they are trying to lean away from crafting, reserving it as a “catch up” mechanic for either the player or the content like older raids (VoG, DSC, GoS) to make those older weapons have a place in the modern sandbox

Catalysts: For the smg, I hope the Panic Response meter slowly grows as you hold the weapon, reducing the time needed for a full or mostly full meter. Maybe a buff to mag size. I think the trace rifle does alot on its own, so I think the only thing they could do would be to enhance its utility by adding some kind of champion verbage, or perhaps just increasing base stats.

For the trace, a recommendation i would make is Crown of Tempest, as its exotic perk does activate with Jolt kills, which Lodestar can apply easily, so in the case your abilities are on down time, you can use Lodestar to proc Crown of Tempest and recharge your abilities faster And if you have the electrostatic mind aspect equipped, you also get ionic traces on both jolt kills, as well as blinded enemy kills, which, as we know, an arc-debuffed enemy will cause q blinding explosion on death, the jolt feeds into the blind Edit: forgot to mention, since the exotic perk for Lodestar charges on _any_ source of arc damage, Arc Soul and/or Arc Sentry are also great pairs, especially Sentry, Sentry charges on kills, only 6 kills needed(can't tell if it's limited to weapons only, or can also happen from abilities and jolt and what not), and Sentry feeds into Lodestar, which then feeds back into Arc Sentry, essentially forming a loop Edit 2: just checked, Arc Sentry does in fact charge with abilities as well, not just weapon kills

With partical reconstruction, you can probably run a kinetic slot fusion and heavy linear fusion and have solid performance with either exotic in any content. So weird is just fine.

I think they nailed the issue right on the head with the flamethrower comment. These exotics are cool, and weird, but it feels like we get weird, funky lolspacehiveguncannonsmg every season, and we can't just get a flamethrower, a crossbow, throwing knives, or some kind of different type that will actually shake up the gameplay in a meaningful way. It always has to fit in the box of tools we already have. I don't need a hammer with 4 heads, and a spike at the top if I'm just hitting nails. I don't think that it matters if it is hard, or takes a long time (and I empathize with that, truly), but it signifies a greater issue that needs to be solved. Maybe they just can't operate at this tempo, and this scale while also delivering on their quality goals.

I remember the early days of D2 when trace rifles, despite being special weapons, functioned like primary ammo weapons in pvp, You used to be able to spawn in with full magazine and reserves. They were basically primary ammo weapons. Trace rifles need to be changed from special to primary.

Pumped for the trace. Being able to jolt without getting a kill first is awesome. Being able to blind, even though it’s on kill, is also super strong. Blind is an incredibly powerful effect esp in high end content where kills are more difficult to chain , and I don’t think we have much access to consistent blind atm. It’ll depend on the blind duration and what tier of enemies it affects, but I’m really looking forward to trying it out! Also depending on how the gun behaves in pvp it could be fun there too!

For lodestar: I could honestly see a simple catalyst of mag+25 to match the mag size of other trace rifles. That along with a reload perk to work with its debuff nature. For the mag: it could get a unique perk that enables the blights to debug or weaken the affected targets. Maybe something along the lines of a 15% weaken when hit by blights. Thoughts?

The blight meter does not seem to go down when the weapon reloads itself. I believe the point of the gun is to intentionally let the weapon reload itself so you can build more blight. It would be counterproductive if the blight meter depleted when it was reloading.

I don't know if anyone else (most likely yeah) has notice this but Lodestar to my knowledge is the first exotic to naturally stun two champions. Jolt for overload and blind for unstoppable. I am very hyped for Lodestar, I think it is going to be very strong

Haven't paired Cenotaph with a Divinity since they dumpstered it. Been using it with Legendary Trace Rifles to enable an Exotic Primary/Heavy builds and ammo regen for the team during Raids and Dungeons. But if Cenotaph works the way that it does, it can make Lodestar NEVER reload and grant you Special Ammo for free. So you can give yourself infinite Special ammo on a Side Arm, maybe a Sniper for DPS, GL for Denial or Blinding, or Shotgun or Glaive. Double special tends to be too costly to run without a Machine Gun, but this will make it a Heavy + Special ammo generating machine. And I'm not just talking about allies.

I think a good catalyst for barrow dyad would be that either the seekers just unravel enemies, or that upon a kill with the seekers, all projectiles from the gun (seekers and normal bullets) either sever or unravel enemies hit, sever would be better in my opinion cause we already have lots of unravel sources and not many sever sources. Jolt from a Primary ammo weapon that doesn't require a kill? Sign me the ef up :D Gifted Conviction does in fact benefit from any and all instances of Jolt that happen within 15 meters of the player. I've been running the build since it first dropped with everything from Indebted Kindness to Sightline Survey. Even Corrasion and Tarnished Mettle work if the targets are close enough.

Resonates with your choices trait feels weird to put on an exotic and tie it to just the episodic stuff. I think it might have to do with something else. My theory is that since this is the first craftable "living weapon" they decided to add flavour text, implying the weapon will adapt to your will, as an in game explanation for what's happening when you craft a different version. Since we're not "crafting" this weapon out of parts and molds.

Witherhoard makes enemies "blighted" and in that state they count as Taken. So they take more damage from Wishender and Malfeasance. Could the SMG be a sibling to Witherhoard the way weapons of sorrow are? That could be cool.

The Frisbee SMG aka barrow dyad in the stream was mentioned it’s not a weapon of sorrow but a prequel/blueprint to one. Idk where the gun was made lore wise it could be hinting towards a new weapon of sorrow maybe the dungeon exotic or an exotic released in act 3 is what this gun will become. This might be where that extra text comes in your choices could influence the next sorrow weapon perks I don’t think this will turn into a current sorrow but a new one as the thorn has its whole story and if I recall ostro striga is based off the thorn, necrochasm was made from crota way back in the day, and touch of malice was also made from oryx a long time ago barrow just doesn’t fit with previous weapons

I think the weird’s the best way to go. Exotics should be what they’re called: *Exotic.* If I had to say, most exotics I would call “practical”, like the Khvostov 7G-0X, but which is an orb printer and ad deleter. Barrow-Dyad is the kind of weapon we need to keep things interesting despite it was the best laugh I’ve had watching these devs streams.

3:20 if something dies the damage number is changed for some reason. It looks like that was the last damage it took so it's damage changed. Not guaranteed but that's my guess

Ok i wasnt jazzed about the Trace Rifle when reading about it... but from seeing it in action and having you break it down,... without the hold R special reload of Vex Mythoclast, its kind of still like V.M. in the fact that depending on its charge and firing method it behaves loke 2 totally different weapon archetypes... an Auto and Linear Fusion, a Pulse and Trace... We honestly need MORE weapons like this, maybe more uber powerful meta level stuff that everyone will hate, but something fun and enjoyable that can still hang with the big boys but not be mind numbingly meta.

i can not tell you how happy i am that an exotic LOOKS exotic. i do not care if its ugly, not saying this is, but i want weapons that looks per uniqueand this is fantastic. i love my circle already, really fits in with shapes the game.
