what do you use to edit your videos?

I use Vegas Pro. I wouldn't recommend it since it crashes a lot, and there are better and cheaper programs out there, like Davinci Resolve.

im trying to change it into a png file but for some reason it turns into bak or DMX

i'm guessing you're still in sfm and not paint net what you need to do is to export is as either a movie and pick image sequence or export directly as a poster picking save or save as will just save it as a project file, aka .dmx
