It took Bomb Rush Cyberfunk for someone to move their ass with a JSR sequel. It always works that way. It takes another developer to make something similar for you to move your ass and finally listen to what the fans have been speaking up about for years. So at the end of the day, you’re not actually listening to fans, but instead scrambling because another developer put that boot sole upside your hiney.

If Bomb Rush Cyberfunk wasn't already the PERFECT spiritial sequel to JSRF, then I would be nitpicky asf about JSR3... but whether JSR3 ends up great or terrible, I don't really care tbh, because Bomb Rush already exists as the PERFECT stand-in for a JSRF sequel. I'm not a fan of the new art style, the design is whatever, all the characters were totally different between the 1st and 3rd games, so new character designs in this is understandable, but the art design for the game changing so drastically is jarring as hell... I mean Bomb Rush did it PERFECTLY... and I get that the big cel-shaded polygon look may appear "dated" to some of the newer generation today, but it's part of what made JSR so iconic and timeless, so why pivot so drastically away from that? Seems kind of bold considering they been holding the JSR "cards" so close their chest all these years just to up and play a "bold" hand with the graphics design of the game like this. Hideki will no doubt be back, he's on good terms with Sega as far as I know, and he loves the time he spent working on the Jet Set games, which is what prompted him to become involved with Bomb Rush too. What would be REALLY insane is if they somehow implemented a type of graphics toggle into the game engine, so that you could easily flip between this modern graphics design and the more classic low poly cel-shaded designs... etc, kinda like how you could actively, in-game, toggle back and forth between the original graphics and the new remastered graphics in the Halo Anniversary Edition. I feel like something liek that, while obviously requiring extra effort, would really pull EVERYONE, old and new, together in support of the new game. Especially if they're advertising is as a AAA Title, then that would naturally mean that it has AAA budget and team members to pull off such a feature. The new Resident Evil 2 game lacks one MAJOR aspect from the original and that's the originals Pre-Rendered backgrounds and tank controls, all brushed off in lieu of fully animating all the environments and changing from a Fixed-Camera to over-the-shoulder, which was more Resident Evil 4's style than the original trilogy of games. The team at Capcom who brought us RE2 Remake, said that they played with the idea of implementing a fixed-camera setting for fans who preferred when the games were more that speed, but sadly abandoned it in support of the more modern over-the-shoulder perspective, which imo, is a travesty, because while the RE2 Remake is a masterpiece, it's FAR from being a perfect remake of the original. You can't just abandon such PIVOTAL aspects of the original, like the GAMEPLAY STYLE and the CAMERA PERSPECTIVE and just assume that your game is a perfect remake because it has modernized graphics and follows the story of the original... it's a completely different game due to the central changes made from the original. Jet Set Radio's graphics, gameplay and music were the 3 strongest aspects of the original games. the design was a major aspect too, but it definitely changed from the 1st game to the 2nd, so that part can certainly change without affecting the inherent core of the Jet Set feel, but messing with the main THREE? That could have some MAJOR issues with the overall game. JSR3 could have PERFECT gameplay and music, but if the graphics are too jarring or unmemorable, then the whole experience could still be entertaining, but not carry the same staying power that the original 2 games have held for over 2 decades now. The 1st 2 games have stood the test of time, that's why a game like Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has enjoyed it's massive success, because it just took all the best aspects of JSR and JSRF and built further onto them creating a whole new universe that still operated on the core mechanics that made the JSR games so timeless and iconic. So to Sega I say, mess with the design all you want... but the graphic design is something you don't really want to pigeonhole yourself into if people aren't completely in love with it THIS early on already... either implement a "toggle mode" like the one I mentioned above for the graphics, or change the graphics altogether to mesh better with the original 2 games... but push too far into "new" territory, and you're just gonna make the SAME mistake a lot of these game companies make when "Remastering" or "Remaking" an old beloved franchise, and alienate your already pre-existing fan base, that's already got their wallets open to you... and you're alienating them simply in "hopes" that you'll gain some new fans MAYBE? Seems like a dumbass wager if you asked me. Make this game for the loyal fans of JSR, and make it GOOD, and new fans will happily flock to support it... take a page from Bomb Rush Cyberfunks success... people want NEW, but people don't want DIFFERENT... Bomb Rush did NEW while bringing back that old flavor... do more of the same and you'll no doubt have an absolute banger on your hands! And if it happens, maybe this time around you'll respect the franchise a little bit more and not shelf and ignore it like the ugly step-child for decades again...
