Mamoswine is probably my favorite actually good ice type. Its the only bulky ice type that can actually make use of said bulk by virtue of having a useable speed stat. It's not great, its certainly fallen off since its introduction but its earned a place in my heart Edit: it hasn't fallen down nearly as far as I thought it would, remaining UU at worst since its introduction is really impressive

Kyurem-Black, the mascot I fell in love with 12 years ago, a Box Art legend whom back in the day everyone told me was unnecessary or even unusable during its time in the past. No older Ice type Pokemon got banned in Gen 9 when they got buffs. What did get banned were busted new Ice types. Weavile is objectively stronger than it was in Gen 8, where it dominated OU, and it's now UU.

It's the paradox of visibility: Lando-T must be broken because everyone uses it. Kyurem-B must be better than Kyurem-W because Kyurem-W is never played, even though B is on and off OU abd W is ALWAYS Ubers

Kyurem-B in gen 9 ubers has been better than kyurem white have ever been. Kyurem-white at best has always been extremely niche while kyurem-black is a good pokemon and common pick on screens hyper offence teams.

Meanwhile, Kyurem-Black is out there as the lowest ranked B+ Pokémon in BW OU and B rank in ORAS OU. The difference from Kyurem-White to Kyurem-Black was far bigger multiple times than this single generation from KyuB to KyuW.

I never understood why Kyurem Black has dragon claw and not ice punch, despite clearly having gigantic ice dragon arms, so im extremely happy to know that after all these years, Kyurem B finally delivered on the promise of being THE ice dragon pokemon. I do too, especially since this being Gen 9 means Game Freak can go totally unhinged with it: Make both its attacking stats 170 while retaining the 95 Speed. Give it all the moves Reshiram & Zekrom learn, and make its Ability something like Blazing Voltage where not only is it Turboblaze & Teravolt (aka Mold Breaker), it also gives STAB to Fire & Electric moves. Oh, and make Glaciate a 100 Power move that also hits Water, Steel, and Bug-Types super-effectively (aka what Fire & Electric hit that Ice doesn't).

Kyurem-Black being the best ice type in singles means that the typing is actually a failure seeing a Pokémon that is considered a restricted mon as his BST is way to high for regular play to be in contention makes the ice type look seriously bad

Not really since kyurem black’s main issue before gen 8 is that he barely have any physical moves for his 170 atk stat, not the ice typing, bst doesn’t matter if you don’t have the movepool to use the stats, just for a what if example, if pre-nerf zacian crowned’s movepool only contained wild charge as her best physical option and doesn’t have any coverage or reliable stab moves, she would easily drop down to ou despite steel fairy typing and high bst due to having nothing to abuse the +1 170 atk with.

Wow... all this time & I only now found out getting frozen is not permanent anymore! 😅 I got Pokemon Blue when it first came out as a kid, so I still have so many gen 1 facts stuck in my head that influence how I play. Even though I've played every gen as they came out, it's so hard to unlearn things from your first experience. I always have to relearn that bug & poison aren't super effective against each other, or that ghost is actually good against psychic. There other changes too, but it's weird that I didn't know frozen was changed after gen 1.

Kyurem black has such a glow up but for me my favourite ice types are: Walrein (favourite design stallrein is still a fun strategy and I bet if it came to gen 9, it would have been powerful with the snow buffs and terrastilisation). Froslass (amazing support movepool can run physical or special moves equally well and has great speed entry hazard setting while also being ghost type and gets destiny bond for cheeky kills on aggressive teams). Glaceon (adorable design, terrastalisation helps its movepool a lot and defences more, it has great support moves like mirror coat charm calm mind freeze dry and has fun bulk to play with while also hitting hard) Avalugg (bulky physical wall and can hit decently hard too, benefits a lot from snow buffs) Eiscue (physical sweeper with ridiculous belly drum potential thanks to the huge speed boost it gets with its ice face ability, a gimmick but a devastating one when used carefully). Baxcalibur (one of the coolest modern Pokémon hits hard takes hits well has great move variety and is so fun to use without feeling too unfair to beat)

Cloyster in most metagames. Include Ubers. The most longevity ice type Gen 1: Clam spam and explosion. Gen 2 : utility Gen 3: same Gen 4: stealth rocker and spiker. Gen 5: with the complex bans, its was baning to. Gen 6: Viable OU Gen 7: Viable OU Gen 8: Viable OU. Gen 9: UU. Kyurem black is obviusly, he got UBER stats. Only need best moves, its comes with the time.
