There is also the Kirby 64 cheat that was discovered a year or two ago, it goes like this: If File 3 is at 0% and File 2 is completely empty, do this at the HAL Laboratory splash screen when starting the game up: On the controller in Slot 2, hold the L button and press C-Up, C-Up, R Button, C-Right, C-Left and Start. If done correctly, File 3 should show 100% completion.

The function of the code was discovered around 2023, I believe. There are speedruns where you can hear the sound because speedrunners mash buttons when bored, but it was assumed to be a bug, not a cheat. The code, by the way, is up, down, left, right on the d-pad.

I remember on Zatch Bell Mamodo Fury, on vs. Mode, there's a cheat code. After you selected any Mamodo Character, choose any stage while holding L and R at the same time, to get the hidden stage

12:25 If you insist on beating Metroid with that particular password, I'd suggest picking up at least 1 Missile expansion. The game WILL freeze if you kill any metroids, mainly because the game's trying to drop missile refills for missiles you technically don't have. While you don't have near infinite missiles if you do pick up an expansion, I think having the max amount of them you can normally hold (pretty sure it's 255) will do just fine, heh.

The Gold and Silver code also exists in Crystal, but it's more complicated, as it involves more buttons, and holding them in specific order. Given that you also need to know the password to reset the clock (which you are not knowing without messing with the game or using external tools lol)... it's most likely a debug feature that was left in the game, especially since it's not present in Japanese versions, where the only way to reset the clock is when the game thinks clock data is invalid or corrupted and makes you set it again.

It's a bit stretched but I'm gonna throw it here, because I played it on the Switch: NieR Automata has a code that must be entered in the first boss' (Marx) arena while standing between two barrels, that lets you jump straight to Ending E. You know, the ending that prompts you to DELETE YOUR SAVE FILE in order help another player's credits sequence minigame. Usually the very last ending you're gonna see. The code is: hold R (R2/RT for other consoles) and press *up down up right left square circle triangle cross* . You need to have defeated Marx and to stand exactly between the two barrels.

Many years after its release it was revealed that there are button combinations to activate the cheats in GoldenEye without having to earn them. They're pretty long from what I recall but you can use them to beat a level unlike the ones from the cheat menu.

@dylanzlol7293 Basically PC games that still give you access to dev console. Games that predate achievements like Quake, or with engines that predate them like Oblivion and Skyrim. Dev console is not quite the same as the codes console game devs left in their games, which were usually dev or debug tools that just got kept in to the final product. And like I said, this was normal. Almost every console game had these. It is wild people nowadays would find this to be weird trivia.

the title makes it sound like Cheat Codes can just 'appear' in games out of nowhere...the devs HAVE to code a specific Cause+Effect in order for specific button inputs to trigger specific results... (then theres methods such ss GameGenie, GameShark, ActionReplay, etc...but those are more like Directly Editing the game's code to overwrite certain values, so theyre more-or-less "community-made" rather than dev-intended)

*Goldeneye 64* You can unlock DK mode by completing Runway on any difficulty in 5 minutes or less. This is the easier cheats to obtain, because all you have to do is get the ignition key and take off in the airplane in about 2 minutes.

There was a recent cheat code discovered in DKC2 where if you pressed X Up, Y Left, B Down, A Right you would start the level over again without losing any lives, even if you didn't beat the course the first time around. Wish I knew that one as a kid.

How specific is the 'DKC2 all Kremcoins' one? Is it just enter and exit the cabin, run to where the first Kritter is then double back, enter the cabin, grab the 1-up and leave, run to where the first Kritter is again, double back again, enter the cabin again and the coin will be there? Do you have to grab and break the DK Barrel on the way back to the cabin for the last time? Do you have to stomp on a rat on the first trip to where the Kritter is? Do you have to hit a rat with the DK Barrel on the way back to the cabin for the last time?

Just try it out. It's important to jump over the bananas. I discovered it by accident when the game got released, just by fooling around.

1. Enter K. Rool's cabin without touching any bananas 2. Leave out the cabin right away 3. Jump over the two bananas to the right and head over to the four barrels that have the banana bunch on top. Take note to NOT touch or kill any of the enemies along the way. 4. Grab the banana bunch and head back to the cabin. You still much avoid the enemies and the two bananas on the ground. 5. Back in the cabin, jump over the note and grab the balloon then exit without touching the note at all. 6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 7. The 75 Kremcoins will be there in the cabin.

I would argue the famous Metroid passwords are not true cheat codes, as they were not intentionally programmed. The password system is really just a transcription of the game state into human-readable form that can be restored later. JUSTIN and ENGAGE just both happen to be valid passwords, though the latter really shouldn’t because it breaks the game by drastically overflowing the play time counter.

Yeah, Punch-Out Wii has many small references to NES, the chocolate bar code is specifically a reference to that NES one. Hell, there's very likely a reference to the obscure arcade spin-off Arm Wrestling in there as well with one of the things Doc says during the Bald Bull fight.

Kirby's Pinball Land has one that lets you fight all the bosses without going through each board, which is very helpful if you find getting through them hard. At the title screen, hold Right and press A + B + Select. That's literally how I beat the game, never done it legitimately lol

It's really weird. The passwords get generated based on your ID number, money and name, although the game does not tell you how. So, people in 1999 had basically no way of actually getting the correct password. Nowadays, there are generators like this one: legendarypkmn[dot]net/pass/

I had that moment but with Ocarina of Time. There's never any cheat codes for Zelda games so I was always skeptical of the method to get the Golden Scale early. I had my ex-best friend try it since I was watching him play it. In the fishing game as Young Link catching the biggest fish awards a Piece of Heart. As Adult Link doing the same awards the Golden Scale. It's an item that let's Link dive deeper and an upgrade to the Silver Scale. I forget the method but you must do something specific as Young Link. I told my ex-best friend what to do and both of us were so shocked when it actually worked. This made me wonder if other things I thought were bupkis were actually legit. I can confirm the Sinking Lure is real and that I have found it. As far as the Hylian Loach goes I've never caught it or even seen it yet.
