Dieskau sings the lead in Verdi's opera based on one of Shakespeare's great characters.
For once Falstaff seems cowed; humiliation, age and the cold waters of the Thames have cooled his great egotism and damply he faces a bleak cosmos. "Ehi! Taverniere!" A glass of mulled wine warms and revives, and presently Sir Jack's great love of himself and the world reignites.
Alberto Erede conducts the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
Recorded from a vinyl 45rpm 7" single.
