The reason this game sold well in Japan was because of the popularity of the Captain Tsubasa manga and anime series, which made soccer popular enough in the country for a national soccer league to be formed.

I love Soccer on NES I play as 🇲🇽 Team when I was a 8 year old child since 2009

I think this was the one game out of the earliest 'Black Box' games my uncle didn't own when I was first introduced to the NES. I probably played a rom of it once though and yeah... there's way better soccer games on Famicom I'm almost certain. (aside from the apparently UK exclusive Konami Hyper Soccer)
