I almost bought a copy of Adventure Island this morning. No, not that Adventure Island, the one that was a reskin of a Wonder Boy game. No not that Adventure Island that was a reskin of a Wonder Boy game... (I really did almost buy it; I pulled it out of my cart for the sake of one of the Xevious sequels since I already had a Master System version of that game.)

Yup, this one's good; I rented it once and beat it over a Friday evening. It's fairly well-balanced for the most part and not too long if you focus. Jaleco's best games were definitely released from 1990 onward.

Jaleco still has rough spots, but their output is definitely a lot better now!

Aaaawwwwww....whomp em!! I have sooo many fond childhood memories of this hidden gem! Except for that hateful final stage. Had no clue I was playing another cousin to Wonder Boy with that one.

TIL this is a wonderboy descendant?! and yeah definitely an apt end card that series has one hell of a family tree. I was definitely aware of this one but never got around to it. Assuming the US version isn't terribly different minus the re-theme I may have to look it up!

Another in the long history of Wonder Boy spin-offs... and this is a doozy. The US version is well-meaning, but a bit insulting. It's still a lot of fun with some pretty graphics and sound. I liked it.

Looks like you managed to dodge the bullet of having to explain the uh, *interesting choices* made for the American localization. The cringe factor is probably the main reason this one is remembered in the West at all.

Yeah, but there's plenty of Famicom games where I am going to have to deal with the unpleasant aspects. Case in point, the one I'm doing the script for right this second which flies under the radar but is one of the worst things on the system.
