I know very little about Gambler Jiko Chuushinha so I always remember this game as "that mahjong game with ET in it"

I think that's for the best. Imagine having a random encounter in the game take 20 years irl to finish.

You'd start playing the game on the Famicom and finish on the PS3.

There's some incredibly detailed graphics going on here for an MMC1 game, though that should be expected for a mahjong game. They mostly focused on giving the board characters all this graphical depth, and I do like when these games shake things up like that (I find it pretty bland otherwise.) It's the same chipset as the first game, but I guess the programmers just got that much more skilled.
